Starting a topic for my next TAS, Crazy Taxi! Here's an encode of the menu screens so far. Link to video Anyone with any information about strategy or anything feel free to post, if not i'll be posting WIPs as I go! Goal: Hardest Settings, Arcade Rules, Attempt to get 20k cash and rank 1.

I know in the PS2 version from casual play, each customer appears in set locations with set destinations. If you can build a map with a list of where each costumer can appear and the price vs time ratios, you can create a circuit where you follow a set route in a circle the entire run. If somebody has the dedication, each customer can be mapped to their location using time taken to reach it. Then each destination can be mapped to nearby customers using time taken to reach him/her. Base fares should be consistent and easy to add to the data. All you need then is have a computer find the fastest route for the run.

Routing will be the hardest part (for me). But it should be simple enough since as we all know the destination and people never change. This would also help me by routing how much each person gives the taxi driver at the lowest fare rate to calculate the best people to reach the goals.

You can increase the Fare, end of Fare tip and get extra time if you perform tricks/stunts. Jumps are the best for money. Followed by drift then through. There's an old woman on the roof of the building just outside the Parking Lot. She wants to go to the police station. With tricks, I get about $1.1K from her. The mall also has a few quick deliveries. The worst place to do fares is near the Fire Station to the College. Blind hill climb and going through the split area. Too long for not enough money.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

From the TAS Warepire posted, it seems relatively easy to get to 20k within like 16 customers or so. I think during those customers we should be able to reach Rank 1 as well. This will take some testing.. At the moment, I am trying to learn the Crazy Moves. It is somewhat challenging at the moment, Crazy Dash seems to work on and off for me so far. Gonna keep practicing, then I will start writing down all the customers and their destinations. edit: Crazy Dash -> R + Accelerate, Drive + Accelerate? That's been the only one to work for me so far, dunno how to jump if its possible, or drift yet

From the ps2 tas it might actually be more rewarding to take longer routes. Waiting for the customer to enter your car is really slow to the other gameplay, so one could try to minimise customers. On the longer routes you get so much more money for the near-collisions. The highway seems really rewarding for the number of cars.

To do a Crazy Dash, you start in reverse. Then switch to drive and accelerate at the same time. You can also do it backwards by starting in drive and then switch to reverse and accelerate at the same time. Crazy Dash was extremely useful in casual play if I drop off a customer in an awkward position. Just dash going in reverse and then do another dash going forward. The high acceleration is also great when you loose all your speed for whatever reason. I'm not sure how well it can be abused in a tas because pulling off Crazy Dashes successively is too risky for casual play because you risk losing most of your speed for a few seconds if you fail once.

To Dash, it's Reverse, shift into Drive and full acceleration. You can practice this in Crazy Box 1-1 To Jump, from the Cable Car Stop (Top), do a crazy dash towards Cable Car Stop (Bottom). You should get a couple of Crazy Jumps. Watch out for traffic. To Drift, Hold Gas, Shift into Reverse and immediately Shift back into Drive and turn left or right. It's possible to glitch into the wall and constantly drift. To do this, you need to drift into the wall and have the vehicle on two wheels. It's best done when your jumping from the heliport down to the Baseball parking lot just past the station. Crazy Box 1-2 is good practice for Drift. To do a Through, you need to get close to the traffic (vehicles) and do NOT touch the vehicle. Any vehicle collision will reset the combo meter. This is bad. Rank 1 is $8,000 Crazy license is $20,000

Starting Fare probably shouldnt be something to even think about since just like you've said taking highways should be more rewarding. But we need to remember that the time limit has been set to 35seconds on arcade rules. It looks to be from watching a longplay video, rank 1 is achieved after 25 customers have been delivered. the longplay video also gets to 10,000$ which is the AWESOME license plate(2nd best). But the longplay gamer plays on regular settings with 50secs gametime.

solarplex, Playing by arcade rules means you start with 35 seconds. But you get more time by picking up fares. Deliver them fast to get more time. If you get there when the passenger's time is green, you get +5 seconds, Yellow +2 seconds (I think) and Red is worth nothing? The game also says, "Time Bonus" if you deliver the fare with a combo. Though, I don't know if there is a time bonus.

Why does the PS2 sample linked above feel so much faster, because of those crazy dashes you mentioned? Oh and is there no music or did you switch it off on purpose because of copyright issues (had to use a proxy to watch the ps2 TAS, youtube wouldnt let me otherwise)?

We think the ps2 speed is an emulator bug.. I also wasn't crazy dashing. No idea about music issue.

Is there an option to enable a speedometer? or is that a PS2-only UI thing / missing because of an emulation bug? The PS2 TAS seems to drive over 200 km/h quite often, judging from this test WIP it doesn't seem like you go that fast.

There is another technique you must utilize after a crazy dash called a limiter cut which bypasses if you just get a small speed boost from another dash. Do a dash/ Wait until you reach a good speed or you will jump / Let go of the gas,switch into reverse gear, Wait a small portion of frames, switch into drive gear, hit gas. Timing is crucial for the wait. Afterwards you can do another dash that gets the same boost of the first one.

The video was just a test to see speed bonus for timing and stuff, not working on tas yet since I don't even get a dash off the start haha

I just started playing again and can barely do a Crazy Dash. I forgot how hard and precise the timing is. The only advice I can give is to practice. Doing a Crazy Dash is so precise, it almost requires muscle memory to execute consistently. About the route, you shouldn't focus on getting the customers to their destinations as soon as possible. The remaining time is added to the fare as a bonus but if you rack up a large combo, you may earn a lot more in tips from messing around compared to the bonus from the time left.

Right! Crazy dash is definitely muscle memory that isn't switching into TAS timing for me yet haha...

The Cable Car Stop Top was a little sloppy. Is it possible to stop with out getting a bad position? Because your start from there was a little rough. But otherwise, oh yea! That Drift at the Bottom Cable Car Stop was impressive. Even with traffic density at max, you don't care. Nicely done. The WR run for GC is $118,640.52 It used easy difficulty and 70 seconds starting time. Let's shame them all!

Definitely as another test run this one was better but you're right the stop wasa sloppy position, any other position I could get from my load state gave me only 2 seconds bonus time. Next time through I'm gonna be better at positioning. If we hit crazy license and rank 1 too quickly I'll definitely go for an all out maxscore run to try and destroy the world record haha Link to video cleaned up the first stage of the level. it changes who you get to taxi around though. So im debating where to start from the next time I start up. I do like the first fare which I got a nice little jump right before finishing lol.
