This is a topic to discuss anything interesting found on Kickstarter (or other crowdfunding sites). Anyone who found some cool concept for a video game or whatever and wants to share it, do so here.

This is definitely worth checking out! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/557605893/retroworld-relive-your-gaming-childhood-as-a-retro?ref=category (Game description from the website:) With a style heavily inspired by the quirkiness of the Earthbound/Mother series, Retro World takes you on a fantastic journey to a parallel universe where video games come to life. Experience 30 years of gaming evolution, from the early pong days to the modern games of today. Attend midnight game launches or test your skills in competitive in-game tournaments. Read in-game magazines for tips, tricks and reviews, or for the latest rumors about the new Gametron 9000 XZ. My childhood consisted of a pure diet of EGM, Nintendo Power and every video game I could get my hands on. Weekends meant all night gaming marathons with friends and swapping NES games with kids on your street was part of daily life. You never had to worry about DRM, constant online connections or bricking your console with a firmware update. Things were wonderfully simple. It was a time when a new console generation meant taking a giant leap into the future of gaming. You never could have mistaken an SNES/Genesis game for an NES title, even if your parents thought it all looked the same. We didn't have E3, we had CES and gaming publications would trickle out screen shots from the event for months. Release dates were ambiguous at best, which meant you had to call your local store every single day throughout the summer to see if Zelda II was available (sorry store guy). This was growing up with video games in the 80's and this is where Retro World comes from. Link to video

I know this is kinda late, but how is it possible that a certain game I'm TASing that parodies the NDS has more "NES-esque" graphics than a game about the NES years? >.>

I'm almost willing to bet that the fine folks at FurAffinity will be the ones who carry this project through.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I'm verily afraid that whoever donated will not be enough, but at least it got a better showing than in the previous campaign, and we should have interesting stuff in the last days EDIT : Put English subtitles on my video btw, so if you feel like discovering my understanding of the game feel free to do so!

Hi TASvideos! I wanted to share a promising new game that seems to be right up your collective alleys. Perhaps some of you have heard of it or even played it already! Prismata is a game similar in spirit to Magic: The Gathering, StarCraft or Hearthstone. It distinguishes itself from these by removing most elements of luck while still retaining a symmetrical random element that makes each match unique. Each player receives the same pool of units -- a mix of basic units that remain the same and more powerful units that change every game. Players take turns creating units that generate resources to build new units or units that create attack power to destroy the other player's units. Each player knows exactly what opportunities the other has, so the game focuses on strategy instead of luck-of-the-draw. But don't let my ham-fisted attempts at describing it dissuade you; check out the FREE DEMO: http://play.prismata.net/?demo or check out more info on their Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lunarchstudios/prismata-a-new-hybrid-game-of-pure-strategy Would love to hear any feedback! (*Technically the game is asymmetrical and not free of luck; one player goes first and the other receives an additional starting unit. Based on the random set of units in that particular game, one or the other of these positions could be advantageous. But that is left as an exercise for the reader.)

Did you just placed "nonluck" and "randomized" at the same sentence? How does that work? :|

Let me explain. In Prismata, some units can be played every game (such as Wall), but many units are not always available. At the start of the game, an RNG is used to make a list of these optional units. Both players get access to this list of optional units, and then RNG is never called again. It's like if you played chess but before the game began, randomized all the non-pawn pieces and gave both players the same configuration. Randomized start, nonluck gameplay.

Thanks for explaining that Patashu! And as I tried to explain in my footnote above, the random set of units could potentially favor either the player who gets to go first or the player who gets an additional resource at the beginning of the game, so it's not strictly without luck... though luck is heavily mitigated. Anyway! If anyone tries the demo and enjoys the game, I have some keys to unlock the full alpha available. Send me a PM if you're interested!

The problem with this idea is that it destroys most of the skill in collectible card games as well as the luck - because IMO there is probably more skill in building a deck than there is in playing it. Give both players the same cards and there is no longer any advantage to be gained from having a stronger deck.

Incidentally, that example already exists and is called chess960 (because there are 960 possible starting positions) or sometimes Fischer chess (because Bobby Fischer invented it because he was bored of having to learn openings).

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1659894998/failsafe/description This is a game that a friend of mine is working on as the lead programmer, and it looks incredible. Called failsafe. Imagine a mixture of mirrors edge (with much simpler controls!), shadows of the colossus, and maybe some Prince of Persia stuff thrown in. Features voice work by dante basco and ashly burch, and has people on the team who were involved in mgs4 and journey amongst others. Consider giving this some support, I’d love to see them succeed!

Sorry for the bump, but curious how of all the ones posted here, only one seems to have made something out of it. *RetroWorld - Unsuccessful *Beast's Fury - Had 3 other KickStarters; cancelled at 2016 Jan *Prismata - Success; not out yet *Failsafe - Unsuccessful Also, iirc there was a Mighty No.9 mentioned before, but it's not out by this post, and frankly I kinda forgot about it until I stumbled back to this thread. http://www.cnbc.com/2015/12/10/9-percent-kickstarter-projects-fail-to-deliver.html Also til

Hello! I wasn't sure I should create a new topic or using this existing one, but this seems appropriate enough. Today I'm launching a Kickstarter project in order to translate my novel King's Hope from Swedish to English. The project will run for a month, with end date of: Feb 28 2017 King's Hope is a thriller, about a deadly poker tournament, and it has been compared with The Hunger Games and Battle Royale. My financial goal is to raise money for the translation itself, and to print an exclusive small edition, which will mainly go to backers of the project. It's quite a large sum that is needed for this project. But, for example, only about 300 people need to pledge for the level I call ”The Full House”, which includes a signed copy of the translated book, for the project to be successful. I think that is very doable, and I'm very excited to finally be able to launch the project and see what will happen. If you want to support me and my project I would be very grateful if you could share information about it on your Facebook, or other channels. The link to the Kickstarter-project is: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1464755039/translating-novel-kings-hope-the-deadly-poker-tour About half of King's Hope is published online at www.kingshope.net . If you want you can get a readable approximation of the novel by using Google Translate: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fkingshope.net%2Fomgang1%2Fkapitel%25201-3.html&edit-text=&act=url I take no responsibility for the quality of the Google translated text :) I will also share updates and other information in the following channels: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1464755039/translating-novel-kings-hope-the-deadly-poker-tour www.facebook.com/hansolsson.forfattare www.kingshope.net www.hansolsson.net Well, I think that's it for now. Let's see where this ends up, and in the meantime I wish you a happy February! Thank you! Best regards Hans Olsson
