Btw, seeing as how tasvideos has no income(?) http://www.ovh.co.uk http://www.ovh.ie http://www.ovh.com/us UK/EU/US ^ Dedicated servers from £3 per month (500 GB HDD, unlimited bandwidth). Could be used for avi, torrent, or movie file storage, etc. I've been a customer with them for many years. They are getting more stock in a few weeks. This company also has a datacenter in North America. They have the biggest datacenter in Europe. I don't know the hosting situation here, but I would be happy to donate one if needed.

500 GB should be sufficient for all currently published avis. I'm sceptical about all "unlimited bandwidth" offers, though. Once you actually start using that much bandwidth, there's a good chance for your contract to be terminated, or for your bandwidth to be throttled. Then again, nothing is stopping you from setting up a shell, installing a bt client and something similar to btfriend.pl, and start seeding. If you're already a client, make sure to keep the accounts separate though. Just in case they decide to terminate the contract; you wouldn't want that to extend to your other server(s). And with regards to copyright laws, I think getting an US server is the safest thing at the moment, due to their "fair use" clauses.

I understand your skepticism. However, I've been using their servers for 5 years now and I push 20 TB each and every month (BitTorrent). There has been no throttling in all of those years. They have an extremely large network in Europe. Bandwidth is virtually free for them.

Just a few weeks ago I had ability to easilly help TASvideos with hosting (I participated in an internet project which rents several Hetzner’s EX10 servers), but today I cannot help even myself… My blog is hosted on a small VPS from Digital Ocean now, because I am cast from the mentioned community. But if you really need some space for free, I am quite sure, you can talk to the current project admins (just PM me to get their contacts).

A good way to get a dedicated server cheap is by getting an actual machine yourself (get a slightly older one, they lose value quickly) and then negotiating a price to put it up in a data center. If you want a heavy duty server (without owning it yourself) then I think this is a good choice: http://www.100tb.com/ edit: also have good experience with Leaseweb: http://leaseweb.com/

Right, it’s usually called colocation. I am sure if TASvideos needs such kind of service, they can request some donations to buy a quite powerful server…

As far as a server goes, I've had great success with frontrangehosting.com - they have some very, very cheap servers: https://www.frontrangehosting.com/hb/index.php/cart/openvz-virtual-private-servers/ I pay $14.40 per year for a server with 128 MB of RAM and 250 GB of data transfer a month; their non-promo price is $2 a month but there are a ton of promotional codes like FR25 and 50OFF that can reduce the price significantly. I use my server for a place to go connect an IRC client. A.C. ******
I was laid off in May 2023 and became too ill to work this year and could use support via Patreon or onetime donations as work on TASBot Re: and TASBot HD is stalled.
