This is an improvement over my other Nightfire run, seen here: #3695: gamerfreak5665's GC 007: Nightfire in 42:30.40
Well, finally after about a year, I got motivated enough to give Nightfire another shot. I'm sort of disappointed from my first TAS because I did not optimize everything as much as I should have. But thanks to aleckermit, he and I tackled this game and pushed it to it's limits. The goal of this TAS is to get through the game as fast as possible. Thanks to the new clipping technique, we were able to shed off a lot of time from the old run.
I would also like to give a lot of credit to TheVeman3000 and Lo1ts for finding out about the clipping tricks that made the run even better.
Here are some notes on the run (some of them are the same as before) :
  • This run uses a new clipping technique found by the two I mentioned above. Info on that can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKbKej1mkRs
  • Walking straight and strafing at the same time is faster than walking forward
  • played on hardest difficulty.
  • took damage to save time.
  • The instances where i use the Decryptor are when I cannot open the door any other way.
aleckermit did Enemies Vanquished, Island Infiltration, and Equinox. I did the rest of the levels.
As a side note, loading times in between levels are faster on the emulator than the actual GC console.
aleckermit also wanted to mention that Island Infiltration was the worst thing he's ever been through in his life. :)
Also, make sure you use Dolphin 3.5 - 1060, or it will not sync (as well as unchecking Dual Core and Idle Skipping)
That's it! Hope you enjoy!

Why is this being published to the Vault?
Most probably: There was a site bug (now fixed) that caused movies to incorrectly default to Vault (instead of defaulting to N/A) and the judge didn't remember to change the value...

According to http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#MovieMustBeComplete this movie reaches the "end screen" and can therefore be considered a valid game completion. For the sake of consistency with [2129] GC 007: Nightfire by gamerfreak5665 in 42:30.40 I'd like to propose to modify the input file in a way that it presses "A" on the end screen to play the credits, which would also make for a better encode IMHO, even though this would negatively affect movie length.
All syllogisms have three parts, therefore this is not a syllogism.

Technically I support pressing A. Personally I support what was submitted. Aesthetically I support the cutscene over credits.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Just make the encode with the credits. No need to modify the input file that was submitted though.

Was Widescreen chosen as an entertainment trade-off, or was it for better visibility or something?

I had to set auto aim off in the menu anyway, so I figured I would just put widescreen on. It looks better IMO, especially since it's a first person shooter.

That would be a speed-entertainment tradeoff then, right? I'll add that as a publication tag.

Late to the party, but I have to say this: I love this run very much. Every mission has a quantity of entertainment as well as ridiculous glitches. My favorite moment is when you make one fall to death and take picture of him. Nice job, guys.
