Hi,every one! A new run was finished today. That's an improvement of my previous SNES SMAS Lostlevels run. Just 4 frames faster than the previous, but I think entertainment was improved.
Game objectives
Emulator used: Snes9x rerecording 1.51 v7 svn147
Allow Left+Right/Up+Down
Fake Mute desync workaround
Sync samples with sound CPU
Aims for fastest time
Uses no warps
Abuses programming error in the game
Manipulates luck
Genre: Platform
Level Highlights and improvements
There were 4 frames faster in 1-1, but because of the 21 Frame Rule they couldn't be saved at last.
All enemies were killed in 2-1.
I got 2up by a shell.
Jumped through the firebars twice.
7-4: Shell is great for entertaining.
Four shells seem to be cleaned at the same time.
1 frame was saved in 8-4 water stage because it cost a lag frames in there of previous run.
A-3: Cheep Cheep were killed by different ways.
3 frames saved in D-4 underground stage. That's a detail which I didn't notice in previous run.Mario didn't need to jump after fell down the ground.

Just checked myself (in BizHawk 1.4.0, after converting the SMV myself), and...
It syncs just fine.
With that being said, this gets a Yes vote from me. (vote based on the improvement, not whether it synced in BizHawk)
KFCMARIO, I guess just upload the BKM and post it here and ask to replace the SMV with the BKM.

Just finished watching this!
Some part feels boring, because some of the A to D worlds looks like repeats of the previous worlds.
Other than the feeling of repeats, I enjoyed watching this run.

Just convert the .smv to a BizHawk movie.
- install the prerequisites and BizHawk itself
- get the .smv and put it into BizHawk's "Movies" folder
- in BizHawk, select "File | Movie | Import Movies..." and select the file
- load the game
- play the newly-created movie file

What good does it do if you convert an smw file to bkm other than making it compatible for Bizhawk? I find it hard to believe Bizhawk magically inserts proper console emulated frames and whatnot after converting.

What exactly works? Being able to play the converted file in Bizhawk? If snes9x v 1,43 and 1.51 are deprecated, then converting a deprecated file does not matter because it used a flawed emulator to begin with.

I remember Herooftheday said Snes9x v 1.52 emulates Super Metroid slightly better than Bizhawk. I don't know what to make of that as numerous people said including the almighty byuu :) that his bsnes core was ultimately "perfect".

That means that the specific game Super Mario All Stars - Lost Levels was already emulated quite perfectly to begin with. I bet that if you tried to convert other smv's to bkm's you would have very varied success in playback.

The bsnes core in BizHawk is from v 0.87, there has been some improvements since, but due to many re-structures of the source code the new versions cannot be used as a core in BizHawk, and to patch up the source code of v 0.87 will be a tedious task, it will be done by someone sometime though.

My point is, knowing Snes9x and Bizhawk use completely different cores, I don't see how converting a file simply makes it less flawed knowing where it came from. But whatever the judges decide, they will/already know.

Yeah... There is the possibility that the TAS completes the game even though the emulation is different. There is no way of knowing if the TAS could've been shortened unless it's redone on newer emulation.

But there's no way to be sure. The point of using BizHawk is to remove all uncertainty; even the timing of the different cores won't have an effect on games any more by now.

If an emulator uses inferior emulation methods it may still emulate a handful of games quite perfectly because it happens to emulate the components a specific game needs quite accurately. Even a broken clock is right twice a day you know.

The first thing that comes in mind is how the SM64 runs are console verified despite Mupen emulating alot of game inaccurately.

The .lsmv conversion (lsnes also uses bsnes core to emulate SNES) has the exact same input as the original .smv (just bitpacking is different). No, I didn't adjust initial frames or anything. Yes, I did check it syncs (and dumped the video).
Also, it is not emulated perfectly (sound is allegedly worse), just that everything sync-relevant is emulated to sufficient accuracy.
Next step with determining accuracy would be to attempt to console-verify it.
