Seeing some TASes gave me some ideas 1) Early end challenge. Some end when the game ending cannot be prevented with more input. other end when no further input is required to beat the game. Try and end input as many frames before the end sequence is actually triggered as possible. See GBA Link to the Past glitched TAS. Autobattling the final boss in an RPG would count, if the end s triggered upon death of the boss and requires no input. 2) multi game completion challenge. Try and make an input file that completes the greatest possible number of games. :) I think it' sup to 5 now? surely we can do better. :) Completing different types of game with the same input is very good form. :) And no fair sneaking in pauses that affect some games and not others. all games must start as soon as feasable as well. 3) Untouched input challenge. Try to complete the game while leaving as many inputs untouched as possible. The classic example is the no b button super mario bros. Each direction also counts as an input, and so do select and start. Sonic the hedgeog can probably be completed real time by only pressing start, left, right, and one button. But can you do better?

Why no going all out: OoT/MM 200%
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

I really think that doing more than 3 or 4 is severely pushing it. It's just not possible to follow that many games at once.

Speaking of which, why aren't people making any 2-game TASes anymore? IIRC, there has been exactly one such TAS during the entire history of the site, even though it's one of the most awesome forms of TASing.

Well, that's why its a challenge. You have to a) complete as many games as possible with the same input, and b) make them all at least look like that are played somewhat optimally.

most of these are chalelnges for challenge's sake. Yes, it would be very difficult to say, get a mario, a zelda, a megaman, a dragon warrior, and a final fantasy game, for example, to play back to completion with the same input, and not have any of them ave much wasted movement.

I have a good challenge I thought of while messing around in Super Mario Bros. 3 today: Enter 7-Fortress-1 and collect as many coins (from the P-switched blocks) as you can before time runs out (don't defeat Boom-Boom). I did this on my NES just to get a bunch of lives (at the expense of a Super Leaf) and got around 1600 coins (16 lives). I know more coins can be collected in that time, but I think it would be cool to see a big competition start up with creative ways for grabbing more and more coins. Here's a non-TAS example, done on FCEUX 2.1.5, getting 1632 coins.

Since we're on the subject of multigame TAS runs, don't forget about AngerFist's rejected run that completes all 6 of the NES Mega Man games.

That run only completes one stage of each, which is why it was rejected.

Um, can I ask how to make a TAS completing multiple games? I always wondered this when watching those.

This one would be actually cool. MAYBE something like this. 1-We choose some amount of time for this category. Lets say 10 minutes 2-Guy that will do the tas choose some console. 3-He has to beat the max amount of games he can under 10 minutes with the same input. If there is some tie, the guy that won the last game faster wins. PS: Dont know if game restarting should be allowed (so, starting a new game after you beat it)

I believe it goes something like this:
    1. Set your emulator of choice to run in the background and to accept background input. 2. After saving the settings, open as many instances of that emulator as you need. 3. Load one game into each instance. 4. Pause emulation in each instance. 5. Start recording a movie file in any instance. 6. Reset the instances where you did not record the movie, to sync them with the one that you did. 7. Unpause (or Frame Advance) and start TASing.
