I want to make a TAS but I don't know what game I should do one on? Any reccomendations to a newbie like me?

Maybe an easy game from your childhood (like, on Game Boy Color or Advance). If it's short and easy to play, it's probably easy to TAS. I went with SpongeBob - Legend of the Lost Spatula for GBC for my first run. What games did you play as a kid?

One suggestion from me to you is to just pick a game that you are very well familiar with. That way, it won't seem so foreign to you.

I think a good start is to try with a platform game, or action, 2D preferably. I'd avoid RPG and games like that.

Super Mario World and Mega Man X3 are the games I started with! ^_^

I think that your first TASes should not be made with intent to break records, but to show off the game/superplay/hone your skills at TASing. Pick a game that has a lot of known, well documented tricks (megamans, super marios and zeldas are all good for example) and do playarounds where you practice executing the tricks. Once TASing feels comfortable and not a chore, you can start thinking about trying new games.

Any game that emphasizes reaction time and precision has a lot of opportunity to be torn up by a TAS without too much down time, so most action games are good choices, especially ones with projectile attacks and speed boosts. I'd actually disagree about going with games with known tricks, new games are less competitive and give you the opportunity to make something new and interesting even if all you know how to do is route planning and being super accurate. There are several threads in the games forums with ideas/wishlists of games that haven't been done, and there's a wiki page for Genesis with some good choices bolded.
