While browsing the forums (with Google Chrome), I received this message:
I haven't seen this message before or since, so I'm willing to dismiss it for now. Still, could an admin please put my mind at ease? Thank you!
Lycos is a free web hosting service. Probably using shitty ad services that often contain viruses. My guess is someone linked to it, or posted a picture hosted there or something.

This happens from time to time. The message isn't about the site, it is about a user's avatar on the page you are on. People host their images on who knows what site. And who knows what your browser will decide is a "bad site". Either way, it is harmless, and their avatar can't do anything malicious to you.

I used to do that. But this happens fairly often, and I can't control where people host their avatars or what your browser decides is blacklisted on any given day. So in the end, it isn't worth it.
Of course it would be easy for a user to determine the offending avatar and contact that particular user <_<

A better solution would be to make a bug report to the Google Chrome developers (or whoever is responsible for that warning filter). Assuming they have a public bugtracker and that they pay attention to it, of course...
(Yes, I consider it a huge bug to give a warning from an entire web service like "membres.lycos.fr" just because some of its sub-sub-sub-sub-pages might try something nasty. Besides, wasn't Chrome supposed to be a safe browser? Why is it warning about potential risks then?)

Warning! Internet was blocked because you can pick viruses!
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
I've always thought Google Chrome likes to overreact with stuff like this. I've seen it pull this garbage on other boards for the same reason it's being mentioned here.

The irony is that Chrome touts itself as being a safe browser (even safer than eg. Firefox), yet it gives such messages, as if merely downloading an image from an "unsafe" website could harm your system. Talk about mixed signals.
