It's a homebrew game (so here's a link to the ROM) that is very similar to Jezzball for Windows (except this one can actually be TASed). I am just testing the game now, but according to Wikipedia, the game has 49 distinct levels, after which there is an infinite number of levels that are the exact same layout as the 49th level. The goal of a TAS would be for fastest time through the 49 levels, and then ending. But I'd like to see what the community thinks about this game choice.

I dont know if i already said that in the spongebob squarepants ss windows wishlist thread but im thinking about coauthoring this game if youre interested. I spent 5 years of playing this in school lessons on my ti voyage 200 (besides pokemon^^) and after about 2 or 3 years i could even finish it in realtime (the counter overflows and the game crashes:-P) The problem is: im a bit lazy (see too cool to fool) and there is an assload of rl stuff going on in the moment... If you are doing testruns in the moment and "just" tas it as a "side project" i bet i could keep up with you ps: tasedit doesnt work on ds, how can you combine inputs?

I use Notepad, but I'm sure there are better text editors out there.

I will probably use Notepad++, since it edits PSXjin movies flawlessly (I used it for SpongeBob SquarePants: Supersponge once) and I assume it works with DeSmuME movies too. I think it's a great idea for us to work together. It was pretty daunting to think I would be doing it alone. I'm kind of busy too, but I aim to TAS the first level soon, and you can test out your strategy for level one and see if it's faster.

OK, here is the first level. There's a problem though. If I make and load a savestate on frame 365, then the earliest frame I can press A to make the first line is 408, but if I load a savestate on frame 404, the earliest frame I can press A to make the first line is 409 (nothing happens when I press it on 408). I don't know what's wrong with the savestates. Should I ask about it in the DeSmuME Emulator Development thread? EDIT: OK, no one seems to be helping me with the problem in the DeSmuME thread, so Oel-Boy, if you have a different strategy for Level 1, you can work on it.

Does the game lag more if you load the save state on frame 404? If so, I think it's a bug you should report.

Did you use version 1.3.0? I have to travel by train a lot next week so i want to put it on my m3 card and play it in realtime... maybe i even have enough time to start with the actual tas;-)

Yes, it appears to put in at least one additional lag frame when I load a savestate on frame 404. And I'm using DeSmuME 0.9.7 x64 and JezzballDS 1.3.0. I'll go ahead and report it.

The DeSmuME devs didn't care enough to fix the bug, but gocha was nice enough to fix the bug and release fixed revisions of both DeSmuME 0.9.7 and 0.9.8. So I improved my first level WIP by 48 frames which were saved due to emulation differences and probably delays caused by false lag frames. I also improved the technical quality and added entertainment, since I noticed the cursor can fly around the screen while the game is drawing lines (kind of like playing with the cursor in the runs of Space Quest IV and World of Goo). I don't think this level can be improved. The two double lines are the fastest way to clear this level. I don't know where Oel-Boy has gone to, but I can't work on this now anyway, so this run is on hold for now.

I resynced the run on DeSmuME 0.9.9, made the first level more entertaining without losing any time, and finished the next two levels. Here is the WIP. I'm not sure if I'll continue this right now. There are quite a few runs I want to do, and this feels more like a nice side project.

This trick allows me to create lines at a much faster pace than intended, this means the previous levels need to be optimized again. Link to video I need to find out how to hex edit lol Movie file: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/26736065782123880

Oh wow...that trick makes this run a lot easier! It looks like you can pretty much speed a perimeter right around the Jezzballs and easily corral them in before they have time to escape. By the way, you can edit DSM files in Notepad or Notepad++, touchpad positions and all.

I haven't TASed this game for nearly a month so I thought I should show what I have done soo far. Link to video I did a lot of strat hunting but these ones I found to be the fastest soo far. The only downside to drawing 1 seperate line really quickly is that the other one slows down.

Cool run with that glitch! I said "wow" several times and had to watch some parts over again (thanks for the encode). I believe you're about one-fifth done with the game, whenever you want to come back to it.
