Kirby no Kirakira Kids, sometimes referred to as Kirby Super Star Stacker is a Japan-only remake of Kirby Star Stacker (GB). One of the primary enhancements is story mode, in which Kirby faces several opponents. The player will remove star blocks by placing matching friends at either end. Blocks which are no longer supported will fall down, and that allows the player to make chain-reactions.

Emulator details

  • Recorded on snes9x-1.43-improvement13-win32
  • Use WIP Timing - on
  • Left+Right/Up+Down - off
  • Volume Envelope Height Reading - off
  • Fake Mute desync workaround - on
  • Sync samples with sound CPU - on

Game objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Manipulates luck

About the run

The run aims to see credits in story mode. As USA version of Kirby Star Stacker for GB doesn’t have the mode, I used Japanese version for SNES. No matter how I attack the opponent, it will mount a comeback quickly unless I give a finishing blow. So I prepared for chain-reactions and waited for the opponent to accumulate blocks. Also I used pauses to manipulate luck.

Thanks to…

Chino, for making his run. That inspired me to make the run.

Nahoc: Added YouTube module.
Mukki: Judging...
Mukki: The response in the thread seems generally enthusiastic about this run, though this doesn't seem to be well reflected in the votes. I find myself in the 'seen one, seen them all' camp, but the cute graphics push me above complete ambivalence and so viewer response tips the scales here. Accepted.
sgrunt: I'm on this one.

It's a nice movie, but why aren't you using Snes9x 1.51 or 1.52?

Because the game speed was faster than Snesx 1.51.

No battle against Whispy Woods? What kind of Kirby game IS this? :(

I think the enemy was too big to appear in the game.

I was pretty bored by this, sorry. No vote.
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

If you have seen one vs bin puzzle game tased you have seen them all. But it's still a decent run.

Ehm don't get me wrong, I know making a TAS is hard most of the time but this kind of games (Tetris types) I find not suitable for "aiming for fastest time" because with just 4 or 5 moves you make a chain or a combo and the rest of the time is waiting for the opponent to lose and some cut scene and again, 3 or 4 seconds of moves and it gets repetitive. I really think Tetris based games are more funny when used to "play around" rather than trying to finish it as fast as possible. Just my opinion though, if voting, I'll go with "meh".

I found this fairly amusing. The CPU looks pretty good in this game, so the quick victories are more impressive. Also, the finishing moves are pretty cute, as they should be in a Kirby game. I'd say this is good enough for a Yes vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. The game looks way too easy and too child-oriented to make this run impressive imo.
