Combine this with the super sonic glitch for extra fun.
100% run is much more interesting as a real time speedrun than as a TAS, though it has become a lot less interesting now that there are so many zips.

Very enjoyable watch, congrats on the run heid i'm sure doing this taught you a ton about the game that could be useful for improving your real time run too (ha!).

Yea the selection of those levels was based purely on the known routes of the time and where it is most convenient to enter a special stage (since you already have 50 rings) for a human 100% run.

I'm glad you ignored the mob mentality and objectively judged the movie. Again I really am confused still as to what people are even complaining about with the camera work.

I wholly agree with this sentiment. Its frustrating when shit might not be as entertaining as a previous run, but anyone who says the sites goal is "entertainment first" is not being realistic. I don't care if its written in the rules, faq, whatever, since some ridiculously high % (97? 98%?) of the runs on the site focus on speed first, and are constantly being obsoleted by fast runs.
And yes, by "what the hell is wrong with you people" i am saying that yes, you are entitled to an opinion, but it seems as if the mob mentality has taken over just because a few select people didn't like the camera angles to begin with. Idk i just feel like half this thread is completely biased against this run just because the camera angles were mentioned, and they went into the run looking for bad camera angles (i will admit, i expected the camera angles to blow when i watched the run based on what i had read in this thread).

What the hell is wrong with you people? the camera angles were great imo, the playarounds during the bowser fights were by far superior to the previous run, and its a 3 frame improvement. Seriously one of the stupider threads on a submission i've ever seen. yes vote

Right its normally not that cool being in something hitbox, except for the fact that it looks really sweet that you time those jumps into him so it looks like you are just walking into him and still doing damage... Thats the only part of the run where you do this to a boss, i guess if its not a screenshot done in real time its not as cool, but the other suggested screenshot in aquatic 2 i'm really not a fan of at all because its really not surprising at all either... Idk i guess i was just like "wow, thats really cool that it looks like sonic is moonwalking into metal sonic and doing damage"
Plus i have this mild obsession with the metal sonic hitbox overall, i always try to move sonic as close as possible to it when he moves back to the left in real time speedruns to "bullet graze" his spinning spikes, so yea i'm completely biased here probably lol

I'm not very good at TAS'ing so my messing around with metro 2 isn't super effective, but here is my tip for how i think might be a solution:
First, the first part of the level i'm assuming you already solved, obviously glide into the shooter thing because then you can repeatedly glide at turbo through the bumpers without grabbing any rings.
The other part is obviously more tricky because i got to a point near the end of the level where i just couldn't progress, where the rings go up in a half circle after a spinner tube thing.. however i think you may be able to set up a zip to avoid going through this part of the level... if you go all the way around the level to the upper left portion of the level (going around in a big circle in order to avoid rings) you will get to the section of the level where the full level zip is performed. Now, tails can climb the missing portion of the wall and can get inside the wall as he climbs up, and can start a zip from here. You may be able to zip on top of the spikes where the full level zip is started, though in my 1 hour of messing around i wasn't able to do it, i'm almost certain this method is at least possible. I really suck at TAS'ing and TAS'ing zips especially, with most of my play just being in real time just savestating stuff, but yea i'm certain you can get to this point of the level, get into the wall here, and can start a zip at the very least.
The problem with this zip is there is a wall that looks like its going to be pretty difficult to get through on the left which stops your momentum...
Anyways, sorry if you already knew this but ya this should be one solution, i have ideas for others as well (getting into the stage through one of the item boxes, you can use the bubble shield to damage inside a lowering platform later in the level were my other 2 ideas). Oh, and you can set up a short zip on the nut and bolt thingy... there are just a ton of areas for possible zips, i can't see someone not figuring out which one is a good solution.
Ya, as i work on this level more, i'm finding like 800 different places to get a zip going without needing rings (getting into the lava is pretty easy with invincibility...)... one of these has to work

Honestly i find this types of runs to be highly boring and not of much entertainment value, their value is more in hearing about it being possible and not actually watching it.

love it! nice job guys!
Also, the screenshot in aquatic ruin is really boring, everyone already knows about that. Along with metro 2. However, a screenshot with him inside of metal sonic's hitbox is like 20 times as cool imo.
Oh, and yea def looking forward to seeing the improved metro 1, upthorn showed me it like 2 or 3 years ago so i'm sad that i didn't mention anything :-(

Please please finish it :-(. Even if you have to have someone else do the play around parts for sky chase, you really only have wing fort to TAS (death egg shouldn't be too hard to optimize at all).

cn1 in 25 without spindash sounds pretty good, oh i forgot that you get speed shoes in it so spindash isn't as important. mind posting your video up through there so i can see it?

Yea i think this category might have merits... I think a run with the goal of having the least amount of jumps/least amount of rings(there are a lot of spots where you need to bring enemies over to damage boost you to avoid jumping) might be interesting to me but would be slow and probably others wouldn't get why its impressive. also there are a ton of areas where you have to jump obviously.
But many might just view this as slow and pointless.

Sonic 2 badly needs an update, and this run at least incorporates some of the new stuff that has been discovered.
comments: why didn't you choose to use tails in the run? he makes the run more interesting and also helps out with like the eh2 boss.
haven't seen the normal cp2 route in forever, forgot how stupid it is.
without a spindash this looks like a more human run and less tas like :-\
lol edit sorry for pre-emptively voting yes after being very excited watching it once, i got :52 seconds unassisted on aquatic ruin 2 using the water route on my 1st try with no spindashes (TAS got 53...)... this has to be an instant rejection based solely on that.

looks like this uses left/right at the same time which is unfortunate for a regular speedrun, cool trick though. i couldn't replicate it.
Nice job on the run so far it looks super clean. love the EH1 route i have been trying to do it in real time but i haven't had success yet.

dont know how helpful this will be now that you've stopped working on your 100% run, but my route for 100% was:
ez1: 1 emerald
ez2: 1 emerald
az1: 1 emerald
az2: 1 emerald
cn2: 1 emerald
ht2: 1 emerald
mc1: 1 emerald
however, this wasn't my "optimal" route for a TAS it was just what would be fastest (i.e. lose the least amount of in game time) for a human. Mostly super sonic just doesn't save much time so its not really hugely worth it to go out of your way and get rings.
Also yea the current tas is way out of date, really need to see an update.

just noticed this was published, and just a comment about hte "dont publish this too fast" the reason we didn't submit it back then was i pointed out a jump in the first level for him to make a new movie and he made a new movie before i played the game more and found the ladder climbing glitch. so yea its funny that you say that since we decided not to immediately submit it as an improvement since it was 11 frames and literally a few days after the previous one was published. sorry i suck at tas'ing or i would have found those things on my own but i was just going based on playing the game regularly. yes he's been sitting on this improvement for a good 2 years now and i dont see a big improvement coming, especially since this game has been improved so many times.
Now if someone would ever improve sonic 2 with all the new stuff that was found there in the last 3-4 years (wow can't believe its been that long! so many new fun things in that game)...
nice job aqfaq finally submitting it and putting my theory/bad explanations of techniques into practie, and thank you for crediting me.

Just to say it again...AMAZING!
Wasn't sure this would ever get done, but I'm glad it was. I think it looks slick without taking damage. I still think its awesome you put that zip to good use, since it was one the most random thing that I've ever found while playing a game that I didn't think was glitchy (just getting stuck in the top of the level and randomly drowning during a speedrun was really fun).
