You got that right, but at the time we used those controllers...we really didn't know any better. So, it was ignorant fun. :)
I'm usually interested in any% only, but on rare occasions...I would consider others. A max score makes a bit more sense, but its not enough for me to TAS it. Would you be interested? I would be glad to share the knowledge we've learned from this game.

Well, I know some people are picky about the capitalization of their name...but I can understand what you are talking about. I've used NYMX in other areas...but I think I have a bad case of OCD. So, I better figure out what I want to do with all my submissions...especially that SM TAS I did years ago! LOL

Dude, this version is so bad it deserves a no.
But Yes because you are just too dang bold to submit.

I'm a little late on posting to this but I like what I see.
7362 faster than previous.
Decent re-record count.
Amazing write up.

feos, can you please explain the timing differences between the two TASes? I discovered a few years ago why SNES time was not exact due to using frames/60hz. But even though the calculations between the 1.51 version and BH 2.3.1 show a particular time for their submission, I would have expected it to show an improvement of 21.07 seconds.
I'm just curious if this is emulation differences or something else.

Ok. Then finding a way to kill him while not slowing down is the only option.
Xela, there are tough situations all the time for TASers...this is just one of those that you will have to work out. Having done Phantoon poorly in a previous SM TAS, I realized that I had to bite down hard to try to resolve the tough situation. It will be extremely rewarding when you are done.

Well, I have to say that there are a lot of good things done in this TAS.
1. Clipping is used
2. Flag pole skip
3. Some places choose the harder route.
4. Seems that the best forward progress is made in tight areas where slowness can't be avoided.
However, EZGames69 brings up a good point. The Bowser fights are not optimal. Which brings me to a question...Is it really necessary to kill Bowser to complete the level for this version? Looking back at RTA runners, even Happy Lee's TAS...this is not the case.
Because of that...the only vote that I can fairly give, is Meh.

You can, but once out of the tunnel...you have to start your dash again, which isn't fully ready yet. The trip through the tunnel is less than 5 seconds...so I am still waiting for the full recharge. That is the reason I had to figure out the current method...which is missing the edge of the van. Now looking back on that, it isn't so hard to reproduce.

Well, I may not have explained it well enough. That area is very touch. Going back to make sure that I didn't make a mistake...I discovered the following:
1. Executing Dash, right before the Van shows up, is barely possible; however, Bonkers can't keep up before getting hit.
2. Dashing, while on the Van, can yield two results. Landing on the ground, as we have done in this TAS, and landing back on the Van. The problem with Landing on the Van is you have to have 5 seconds to recharge again for the next dash. By that point, you get knocked off by the sign. Plus, you can jump and stay on the van at non-dash speeds.

Well, the problem is completely different...you have to wait for 5 seconds before obtaining "Dash" capabilities again. So, once I'm the van I have to make my move quickly to miss the back of the van. So, this means I have to stay on the van until that time comes. Besides...the tunnels keep you from doing anything, plus the 2 signs will knock you off. So you have very limited space to do anything while on top. This was the reason why I tried so hard to figure out how to get off the van while keep my dash status.
Good Question! This was an area that I put a lot of thought into.

Thanks. It took us roughly 5 months to figure this all out.
Well, the original TAS was that way. The problem came from me finding enough cuts that using it caused Bonkers to have to wait for the floating platform to cycle around. So, the alternative was discovered. The part that you are referring to is 6-1, which we managed to cut 46 frames off of PartyBoy's version
Well, not any game breaking glitches. BUT! there were one frame opportunities that allowed us to break the physics slightly. For example...early on, I believe 1-2...bonkers lands on a food cart. Well, the game intends for you to loose your forward momentum when you jump again. I discovered that jumping off of the cart the frame you land...you can hold your forward momentum. This helped out with landing on the table faster. If you don't execute the one frame jump at the right time...you would have to stay on the car long enough to make a jump reach that far. Staying on too long would cause Bonkers to crash and thus waste even more time recovering...due to his animation.

Wow...looks great. Nice cuts over the previous TAS. I always give out yes votes for further improvements. To me, that's entertainment enough to see just how far a game can be pushed.

Actually, you could have stayed on the truck/van, but there were a number of things that had to be considered:
1. At the beginning part (where the vehicle first appears), you would have either had to start your dash or jump on the vehicle.
2. Starting your dash at the beginning part would have been futile, since the vehicle would have eventually caught up and you would have had to jump on top. Jumping while running would not have worked either, because bonkers would have landed on the front of the car and get take out of dashing speed.
3. Taking advantage of riding the vehicle to an open space, after the first tunnel, gave Bonkers just enough space to run forward and barely miss the back of the vehicle. This was not done in the previous TAS.
4. After accomplishing #3, following the van kept a second vehiclefrom re-spawning and causing massive lag in the second tunnel...where the previous TAS was trying to stay ahead of.
5. Staying on the vehicle at the very beginning...you would have gotten pushed off by a sign anyway. So you loose your advantage.
I was able to find an opportunity to keep my dash speed up longer because of the points made above.

WUT!!! The Adventures of Lolo? I thought I had clicked on the wrong video.
I can see from your first submission, around 1 week ago, that you are certainly improving this run. More than a minute cut? At that rate, I wonder how far you can take it.
As many people here are aware, I'm big on re-record counts (even though that has been a hot discussion lately). Around 5 times the movie length isn't bad. So you certainly are doing the work...and it seems to be a pretty decent run. However, I'm just a player of this game and not a TASer.
From what I can tell, there doesn't seem to be any crazy TAS tricks going on, rather...just a very insane speedrun.
@3:43 Are you aware that you can still jump from the net and grab again? This is a red flag for me on optimization. This can clearly take off seconds.
Since this is an any%, I usually vote yes for optimization and crazy speed tricks, but I don't see that here.
I'm voting meh, because this is just not the TAS that jumps out at me.

Well, I can understand what EZ is talking about...but I tend to vote on the merits of optimization.
Like c-square said, it does seem to be highly optimized. I thought it was clever on how you lure some enemies over to an exit to get out faster. Also, you tend to make moves that are close to death and make it appear to be on the edge.
Some of the moves are very slow making this game kinda less attractive than other ports,...but! Yes vote from me.

Certainly not. Its just one of the factors to consider.
The idea of bots have been mentioned a lot for the cause of high re-records. This is evident when I did the first F-Zero circuit, as I used a series of methods to automate some testing for me. From what I can tell, it paid off.
But, for the GB Tetris TAS the re-record count alone says something about a bot being used. Seriously, almost 3 Million??? I'm not that dedicated.

I can imagine that this would become a tiring practice. With the last TAS I submitted, I certainly didn't have that in mind. LOL
Although my number wasn't tampered with, it was lower than it should have been...with all the dropped backup files. Perhaps this is the reason I should using branching? Would a project file then hold all the effort?

The only point that I wished to highlight, is that the quality of sniq's movie is extremely high and that re-records certainly show it.
I get it that the number can be bogus...but if we have it there, shouldn't we at least control it a bit so that it is not so meaningless to some considerations?
