Wait...you are telling me that an old 8 bit system has programming to make use of subpixels? What would be the point...this game really doesn't require it. I've seen older games manipulate position, but it usually was to push the main character "off-center" from its given starting point...giving a pixel advantage without suffering from any detection that would hurt progress. This would be evident where a character would move 2 pixels each frame. When the character would run into a wall, or edge of the screen, it would reset it to an odd number placement rather than the 2,4,6,8 pixel possibilities. This is not in every game, but I'm pretty sure that a game like this doesn't make use of subpixels. That started surfacing in SNES....like Super Metroid.

Oh I forgot. As for the difficulty, that is certainly a toss up for me. Beating the game fast, at hardest level, certainly will take more time. More entertainment would certainly present itself if you beat it faster, but I've seen games like this and how long it takes to operate on the hardest level. Not sure that I would go for a yes vote, on the hardest. Anyway, it is disappoint...but again, the ease of destruction was very interesting to watch on the chosen level.

I've briefly looked over the other posts, but I'm going with my original thoughts...since I don't have time to absorb all the discussion here. I'm surprised at how easy it was for you to destroy this version. I attribute it to the following: * Limited resources * Doesn't contain "Book Opening" moves (due to ram limitations) * Programming highly logic games was a new venture for coders at that time. From the first few moves, that free pawn really showed the lack of strength the game has. You rightly took advantage and destroyed this with ease. Future consoles certainly expanded on these early efforts and now...games like this are much harder to beat. As with Chessmaster 2600 (SNES), the optimization of TASing it has been discussed for years on end, to the point that a balance between using "Book Opening" moves and discovering the weakness behind the CPU is the challenge. No fools mate here! LOL Yes vote. Great job.

This type of game was created on a number of machines back then, although it was called something different on each. It was a classic. The one I was particularly interested in was the Vic-20 version....which was called Trench Fire. Yes vote. Keep them coming Winslinator!

Not sure if this is related to the title, but I figured to ask here...just in case. I've produced a verification run to open up new capabilities of a game. The problem I'm having is that I initially created my project against it and now, when I save this project to another name or open up an existing one, the SRAM is no longer attached. Is there a know bug with Bizhawk? Or am I skipping a step?

Well, I have to say...very good game choice and very good execution. The duo player annihilation certainly kept my attention and the destruction was insane. Can't wait to see what you 'attack' next. :P If you think I'm going to give you a yes EZ...think again. Crap, I've already voted yes. LOL

Its amazing to see what developers are still able to do, this many years later. The music is WAAAY more interesting than the classic music that we've heard from so many c64 games of the 80's and 90's. Great choice Moth...Yes vote.

I used to watch Rodrigo's stream, when he was attempting to get the WR on this game. Very good game for attempting glitches and optimized movements. I'm not sure why I never thought to watch the TAS back then, but I'm glad that I have now. So...for the original part that MUGG did, GG. Very good run and entertaining. As for the 8 frames by EZ...nice find and I look forward to you finding those other improvements discussed. So...Yes vote.

Well, this is something to watch. First mark of excellence is the choreography. If that had no been done, I doubt I would want to watch the entire thing through. Second mark...very clean and optimized game play; however, one spot appears to have a problem...but considering the reputation of Samsara and EZgames, I would like to hear an explanation on the stage with the fire dodging. Maybe I'm not catching something in the write-up, but at 11:03...you pause. Couldn't damage boosting be used to keep moving forward? Anyway...Yes vote to the duo!

Then in that case, would it be of interest to add a lua command to activate the 3 different levels of display used in the GUI? Something like: client.EmulationDisplay(0) = Full client.EmulationDisplay(1) = Minimal client.EmulationDisplay(2) = Absolute Zero I gave it a look in the bizhawk solution and I need to dedicate some time to figuring out the architecture of this app. If I figure out how to add that lua function, can someone upload it into GIT? Otherwise, is any developer interested in adding this feature?

The use of the display mechanism for "Absolute Zero" and "Invisible Emulation" seems to be targeting different places within the bizhawk application. 1. It appears that "client.invisibleEmulation" is not tied to the DisplayConfig.cs. Is InvisibleEmulation a lower level access to cut of more updates to get faster speeds? 2. Absolute Zero is in fact tied to DisplayConfig.cs, but I don't have any way to access via lua. I would like to have this feature added for use with lua. My reason for bring this up is due to an "crash" that I receive when using client.invisibleemulation(true). So, instead...I have been manually selecting Absolute Zero to turn on/off the emulator display. I have looked at the lua examples in bizhawk and I don't see anything special about its use. When I use client.invisibleemulation, am I experiencing a bug or misuse? Also, does this in fact have a lower level of control on updates? I like this feature, as it would solve a problem that I'm trying to automate. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmmm....very interesting. This error is still here (sorta), but it can be circumvented. Not sure if any focus should be given to fixing it, but here is how to get around the problem. When the message shows up (which comes up after running more than one emulator instance), just excuse the error. Go back to the lua console and play the script again. it will function as normal.

I've been waiting to see a decision on this submission for some time. I understand that there are conflicts, but I'm interested in seeing this submission get published for one reason...it does demonstrate an ability over humans that I'm not seeing in any posted youtube video. Also, I do know that the rules were recently updated...but I'm not sure what they were, since I didn't take the time to see what it was. (Basically, I've lost the discord update about it) Some thought on the subject are: Entertainment: No, the game doesn't have the "punch" that I'm looking for; however, I voted yes on the fact that is does blow away any human scoring that I've observed. IMO, the entertainment comes more from the ability to max out the score. Fixed Time: This game absolutely is against the rules for publishability if entertainment doesn't meet a high enough standard, if considered for fastest time. So...all I can see is that the only choice is...."Max Score". But, if "Max Score" is the goal...should Fixed Time be a reason to reject it? Its unfortunate that this game has a fine line between that has supporting documentation that does indicate a lack of acceptance. So, I believe that the stated goal should have some sort of override to prevent other rules from negating positive objectives. The section, in the movie rules, does state that:
There is no other way to define full completion for the game, because there is no way to collect or complete "all X" for any given criterion, aside from fastest completion
Yes, a theoretical any% is a consideration...if lag reduction can be demonstrated. But since a full completion currently doesn't exist for any%, then it should be accepted against the next statement associated with the above quote.
If a way to define full completion is discovered later on, a movie that achieves it is eligible to obsolete the existing "max score" publication.
As for the rest of the rules... Saturation does not exist and meets the rule.
If a game automatically resets the score as you progress (for example, in every level), "max score" must be reached in every such segment.
The game does reset on each new screen/game/task...The TASer meets this goal
A "max score" movie must complete the game. Playing beyond the defined completion point is not allowed.
The TASer also meets this goal. In summation....I believe the key point should be to decide rule "Priority", which can fix the dilemma that is delaying decision on this matter.
