Hello dekutony. I was looking at this submission today. Was this submission supposed to be for fastest completion or was it showcasing something else? If it was for fastest completion couldn't you have manipulated rng to complete it in a single turn?
This was supposed to be fastest completion, yes. It beat the known RTA record at the time this was submitted, but I think there is an even faster RTA time now (it also gets the green checkmark): Link to video I don't know if it's faster than this TAS or not. We're now talking about a more optimal RNG seed now, so I doubt it's something I'll go back to anyways.

Super Dassalo Land is a platforming game starring a stand-up comedian dude. He can slide like Mega Man and use a microphone whip similar to Castlevania. A TAS of this game would be interesting, I think. Game link: https://gumpyfunction.itch.io/super-dassalo-land Playthrough: Link to video

#2003: max12187566's NES Super Lion King in 05:24.38 Unless this is not well optimized and the ROM choice thing is still an issue, I think this one should get another chance.

This is a bootleg Donkey Kong Country game for the Genesis, using assets from all three SNES DKC games, and using Mario music for many levels for some reason. You can't roll at all. Getting shot out of a barrel gives you a lot of speed. Diddy Kong is completely missing, so you'll die in one hit. I started testing the game a bit more, and when I collected a KONG letter, the game froze. When I tried recording this happening, the game kept playing just fine, so I don't know what's going on there. https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638672080450048375 I thought that was a bug with the Genesis Plus GX core on BizHawk, since on BlastEm, Gens and even Kega Fusion, no game crash occured after collecting a letter. But I don't know anymore. If anyone's ever going to make a TAS for this game, please keep this potential issue in mind.

This is a game that has eluded me for over 10 years. Another bootleg Pokémon platforming game, but this time starring Chikorita (hence the fan given name of Pokémon Chikorita) with cute little sprites for her and the other Pokémon. The official names are Pocket Monsters Crystal (or it's more amusing English title: Pokémon Fancy Elf). Although some of the graphics resemble Pokémon Gold Silver on SNES, it has a completely different set of 4 levels, and Totodile is nowhere to be seen. The game plays like some of the other Poké bootlegs on Game Boy Color, but with Chikorita's moveset from the SNES game, though shooting projectiles now takes amno that you collect througout the levels. For many, many years, this game had remained undumped, with no ROM available anywhere, so I never had the chance to play it, let alone TAS it... Until recently. In August of 2024, it finally happened. The ROM was dumped, fixed up to be played on most emulators, and it's finally able to be TASed... by yours truly because you KNEW I was gonna do it. Why? Because I like Chikorita, that's why. It took me until today (as I'm writing this) to find out, and I was overjoyed, hence the creation of this thread... even despite the game itself not being all that great (and pretty difficult to beat as well!). Here's a TAStest of the whole game, just to get used to it and look over what can be improved: User movie #638672374884385925 From my early findings: -Going through slopes is pretty slow. -Flying isn't anywhere near as overpowered as it is in the SNES game, and is situational when landing on moving platforms or other niche instances, not to mention its rather slow. -Shooting/attacking is much, much faster in this game, and (seemingly) is faster to do in midair. -That backjumping technique from most Poké/Digi bootlegs is present here too, but it's pretty much useless in this game due to the level layouts. -When moving on the ground, you first walk a bit slowly, then you start running a bit faster. By the looks of things, running is faster than jumping, and there is no run button like in Pokémon Platinum Edition. -I avoid taking damage throughout most of the movie, except for a couple instances. Perhaps I could abuse i-frames a bit more. -You can hide the HUD by pressing the Select button. -You can jump earlier after landing when holding no direction (not 100% certain about this). So, uh yeah! That's all I got for now. Hopefully I can get around this one properly and make an optimized TAS pretty soon.

Hello. I've improved the TAS by nearly 1 second. Most of the improvement comes from World 1-3. 1 frame was saved in World 2-2 also. User movie #638657849588463970 Can somebody please replace the input file from the submission with this one? Thanks in advance.

A game I definitely want to look into is Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby in 8-Bit Land. I can't right now because of my PC not being able to run 3DS games at an acceptable speed (3 to 5 FPS at most, yeah its that bad). Maybe one day...

Making this thread to post all the MK7 TASes I could find. Here's a playlist of a bunch of them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8y-POk_gq2_pG84VGJ58qYEE1y_UftnO A showcase for some shortcuts: Link to video And a pretty cool documentary for one of the game's courses: Link to video No Grand Prix TAS yet, by the looks of things.

Here's a version of dekutony's resync above with fixed subtitles, if someone could please replace the submission with this input file.
Did these new subtitles have a 2 second shift added to them for the publisher (to compensate for the encoder logo)? Wanna make sure since I noticed they start about 2 seconds in and I’m not sure if I should be adding a time shift if it was already done.
I have to assume you do need to add a time shift. This specific sentence was added in the submission text:
.srt subtitles for the above encode (needs offset if adding a publisher logo)

The video is unavailable now... I should've probably backed this up and documented it somewhere... but I didn't. Do you remember what it was? Which level was this done? I should probably ask around somewhere else.

I've been meaning to make this thread for a couple years now, but I finally got around to it (mostly because I forgot). I know we're still ways of a proper, stable way to TASing the Pokémon mini and its games, but it has come a long way when I started testing this out since 2017 (and started TASing them since 2020). Also I have to assume that, when it finally happens, Pokémon mini game threads would end up un this subforum anyways, so... with that out of the way... Let's start with Pokémon Race Mini. This is the most obvious choice for a TAS, it is a racing game after all. This is a platformer racing game that quite a bit more going on that one would expect. The game has an in-game timer too, so that further makes it more appealing for speedrunning. Togepi's Great Adventure is a full fledged adventure game where you roll Togepi like a ball to the exit throughout a series of levels (reminiscent of Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble). It is surprisingly a long game for a game on this platform. The system also has quite a few homebrew games like Psychic Seeds, a puzzle platformer starring Exeggcute. There's more games I could list here but I want to know what other people think.

ADMIN NOTE: This was a separate, more recent thread opener merged into this one.
I didn't see a place to properly suggest movies with sensitivity/content warnings, so I'm making one here, I hope that's OK. I'll start with this movie: [2098] Arcade Marvel vs. Capcom "Playaround" by SDR in 25:37.70 This TAS, as great as it is, has a TON of flashing lights. I think a sensitivity warning is warranted. It happens all over the place at many points in the movie. Maybe some of the other MvC movies need it as well.

Hi. Just posting here to suggest that a flashing lights warning should be added to this publication. There's quite a bit of them.

Have you tried to console verify the verification file? Then after unlocking everything necessary on the cart you could try verifying the TAS. (Also I need to point out that you should verify the version with the new improvements.)

New WIP... still not sure if I'm gonna continue this. Someone can do better than me. https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638624568097734409 I insert the coins I have in the Reptar room now as it will save time much later on in the game when I go back to enter the final level. I switch to Phil in the Backyard level due to him picking up objects the fastest (like Toad in SMB2). The vine climbing could be better though... (this is also a resync to a cleaner ROM) Here's the encode: Link to video

This game just released last week (at the time I'm writing this). This is an official Rugrats game released for all modern platforms. It is notable for containing both a modern HD version, as well as containing a full 8-bit NES version that works on real hardware. This is a 2D platformer where you need to obtain all the Reptar coins in each level in order to unlock the final level of the game. You can also select 3 difficulty levels, with the hardest difficulty preventing you from switching characters on the fly. You can play as Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil each with their own strengths and weaknesses, clearly reminiscent of Super Mario Bros. 2/USA. The game can be played in co-op, meaning 2 players can play at the same time, which could lead to some interesting strategies and gameplay. I can see the potential in a TAS of this game. I enjoyed the game quite a bit, so this would be cool to see. Here's a TAS that beats the intro level. I use Chuckie because of his higher jump, as I can collect the last Reptar coin and finish the level earlier: https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638622254908641768

1-3? Which track are you referring to? Riverside Park? Is the video of that old TAS really gone? Well I couldn't find it myself, so... maybe? I could be wrong though.
Nevermind. iMathII helped me find the .vbm file of that old TAS. Also resynced to latest BizHawk for preservation purposes. (User movie #638620344624958999) The original TAS is from 2007... Here's the new TAS with cstrakm's improvements to Riverside Park and Rainbow Road. Co-autorship will probably be needed. The only problem is that the subtitles are all messed up now... Sorry about that, CoolKirby. User movie #638620340943891732 Somebody please replace the movie file in the submission with the one CoolKirby provided in the post below.
