I'm going to be redoing this encode. I'm also going to be making a 10-bit and a proper 512 as I don't trust the 512 I made with direct264. This will probably take 3-4 days as I'm redoing a large portion of my batch and encoding script to accommodate new features. Stay tuned.

Yes, I could read in the frame dimensions and calculate one from the other, maybe next time.
I find it's much simpler and elegant to calculate that stuff in-script. One less point of failure, as well as ensuring that it's done properly each time.
I'd use a text editor and :: comment out the lines that aren't needed.
Part of the point of my batch was that I didn't need to manually edit it every time per encode. it's tedious and inelegant. You should be able to configure what encodes need to be done in-batch rather than have to edit the batch/script every single time. Besides, some people like not having to edit files as well. Some pictures of my batch in action: Main Menu 1. Sub Menu. Main Menu 2.
What is the difference between the 512 and SDstreamable?
512 is for Archive.org. SD Streaming uses tasblend, doesn't upscale the encodes, and is capped at whatever the streaming FPS cap is set at (in most cases it's 30, but it's easily changeable). I threw this in my batch despite it not being needed because "why the heck not".
It looks like you end up with an undefined colormatrix in your encodetypes 1,2,3 ?
Ilari told me to use that (and let x264 handle the color matrices), so what I'm using is what I was told to use. I'm also sorry that I can't have the EncodeType as a string. Replacetext does NOT like things with quotes, so I had to use a number. Every other program I tried failed to work in a batch, required some GUI (and manual intervention, which eliminates the purpose of what I'm doing), refused to work at all, or had no documentation/was too complicated to figure out (Looking at you SED). I'm working on a few changes for the batch as well, but they're going to take a lot of time to implement. They should add more flexibility (although it might cost a few extra cpu cycles). I never change my links for pastebin, so the changes will be uploaded to those links when I'm done with them. Something I would like to add, but not sure the proper batch coding would be 'directory independence'. Everything right now is heavily tied down to the folders I use on my computer. Which makes testing outside of my computer difficult. Also, if you expect me to have a clue what I'm doing, you're out of luck :P (everything is 'just try it and see what happens', goggling stuff, splicing commands, and learning everything that goes wrong).

I remember when I got laughed at for attempting automated encoding. There's a few things that bug me. You have to set the --sar and AR manually. What if you don't want to do all the encodes at once, or only need to do downloadables? Or what if you're encoding something NOT in 4:3? Or something that you don't know the --sar for? My Batch. ReplaceText.vbs. Since I lacked the tools to replace text from a batch, I use this VBS script to do it. The Script I use. Vdub jobs file for automated audio extraction. Things needed: Avisynth (2.58 if 64-bit, 2.6 if 32-bit), Blinkmask and Shakemask won't work on 2.58, but I never use them (and still working on a way to only use them on parts of the encode anyways) ExactDedup, mt_masktools, and mvtools2 (and 64-bit versions if needed) mp4box & neroaacenc mkvmerge, oggenc2, and flac x264 8-bit and x264 10-bit sox lua and NHMLFixup-v10 (I'm outdated a bit) Whatever dll files the above need to work A lot of things here in my works that don't revolve around TASVideos. It's not readable at a distance. It won't work on linux to the best of my knowledge. Parts are sloppy and unorganized. DIRs need to be configured because I lack programming knowledge for AVIsynth and Batch. And my script is also heavily based on the current Hybrid. The script and my batch are flexible and easily customizable however. I wanted to give people a choice in everything rather than needing to rewrite everything any time they wanted something (or PER ENCODE). If you want mp4s, my batch lets you make mp4s, if you want MKVs, same deal. Things are easily toggleable. Once subtitles are inputted, everything else is automated (my batch automatically produces all encodes if nothing is hit).

Here's the way I do things: 1.) Get Movie File (Unzip if Emu doesn't support play movie straight from zip.), Dump Movie 2.) Splice segments and trim with Vdub, resave spliced file as source.avi (repeat for other games if multigame) 3.) Edit script for subtitles + timings, set other options if needed, check results 4.) Run encoding batch, choosing what encodes I want to produce in-batch 5.) Check encodes for quality, upload

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE24wgCgXuM Mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?q2em6210pp9u910 By the way, do you happen to know of a good screenshot for this movie? If not, I'll dig one out, but if you've got suggestions for it than I'm all ears :) Edit: I totally didn't see the encodes that were already up. Oh well, this is my first DS encode, so I wanted to try and see how I'd fare on encoding a new platform. My encode is slightly smaller (118.37 MB vs 130.61 MB of Fractal's). My youtube uses acc audio with qp = 1.0 (so as lossless as I can get it since flac doesn't work in mp4 files) as well as TASBlend. It also has a double-sized top screen on the left side, making it a bit easier to watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAqjFIJwYs8 The download linky is in the description. From the author: "ElSMB3 (short for ElBlocko's SMB3), is a hack that tries to be faithful to the original game with levels that make sense and are visually pleasing, yet tough enough to offer a good challenge without being overly sadistic." I think EISMB3 is different enough from the original SMB3 to warrant a look-at, maybe even a full-fledged TAS. Videos for the individual levels are on that channel, as well as some other misc fun videos. While the individual levels aren't uber hard, like say Kaizo, they still hold their own in difficulty, as well as being creative, and in my opinion, fun. I had to use LunarIPS to patch the rom, because fceux 2.1.4a kept crashing when I used the emulator to patch for me. http://www.youtube.com/user/ElBlocko#p/c/398292F1A5AB6F68/57/F49mmpEzzRc Here's 1-1 on the playlist. The author hasn't added in the videos after 7-1 onto the playlist, but they're on his channel.

The how and why we all got here is largely unimportant. What is important, is the choices we make for ourselves today. This happened too long ago for me to care, and even when it was recent and relevant, we both determined it was the proper course of action for the time. As I've said before, I have no regrets. I still have the place. She was the means to an end in me getting a place and moving away from my parents, and the massive first step I should have done when I was 18, like everybody else. I don't see why you'd lock is as I haven't broken any rules, the topic hasn't gotten out of hand, nor have I bashed or insulted anybody. If it goes south, I'll personally request the topic be deleted. I was merely posting this as a fun log in case somebody else who lurks on here encounters similar problems as I have, and doesn't know where they can turn to. Also thanks everybody for your comments and criticisms thus far. I'm having much fun reading the comments, both good and bad, and hey, it's a learning experience for everybody.

So, was her cheating on me "doing nothing wrong"? It's the reason we broke up after all. Free will of another isn't something that you can control. You can manipulate them and give them ultimatums, but that's making them do things, and I'm not that kinda guy. I am who I am, and she didn't like me in the end for who I am, enough to where she was into another man. Rather than chase after her, I let her go. She wasn't perfect for me, as you say. People change.

Yep, life lesson learned, nice guys finish last. Why would I be ashamed of my actions? I did as my heart said, but then everything just fell apart. I have no regrets. The past is the past. I've learned from it and have moved on.

Hi, I'm Josh (aka 'Chaos Crusader' Velitha, formally 'Ragnarok'). As a handful of you know, I randomly went 3 months without saying a single word to anybody. During this, I was busy being depressed and emo, but I got better. I ended up breaking up with... let's call her J, after her nickname and the picture I made for her in my own artwork, including my own, which honestly, anybody with 2 eyes and a phone book, or has checked out my page, will know my name, idc) During this time, J left a ton of her stuff in my possession. After about a month she thought she was evicted so she moved to Hood River (I'm also leaving out a TON of drama here, the juicy bits will go on my page) I received this from J's BF, Justin, near the end of march

(11:30:28 PM) Stephen Justin: the verdict is all the shit up there is yours. (11:30:47 PM) chaoscrusader666: for reals? (11:31:13 PM) Stephen Justin: for reals if you want cofirmation lauren can call me and talk to steph cause yall wont be talkin no more from here out (11:31:38 PM) chaoscrusader666: mmk (11:36:06 PM) chaoscrusader666: I sent off an email to Lauren that had that snipet in it (11:38:39 PM) Stephen Justin: she has placed me in charge and i am taking charge, i have fooled you into thinking im your freind because she was your freind but no longer, you are a woman beater, your emotionaly damaging and abusive and you will no longer be contactin her or me, i dont like you as a matter of fact i think i might just hate you and yes this is w=me and not her and im sick of your bull shit and its over you are out of both of our lives for (11:38:43 PM) Stephen Justin: ever
Justin couldn't just leave well enough alone, later on in April, this happened:
Conversation with 100001450012521 at 4/29/2011 9:36:08 PM on chaoscrusader666 (facebook) (10:03:18 PM) chaoscrusader666: what about her things and how long u want the block for? (10:05:04 PM) Stephen Justin: her stuff im not worred about, she already abonded it once, and the block is till i see you have learned your lesson, and i went agaisnt what i said and accidently hinted it o you ealier in the convo, i will talk to you on a regular basis and see, its all up to how long it take you to become a man and not be a boy. good night, talk to ya tommorow night.
I was constantly harassed by J all throughout Feb and March. After Justin's tidbit at the end, I decided enough was enough, and got a Restraining order against J in March. I made good photos of it for everybody's reference here: Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Page 5 | Page 6 | Page 7 | Page 8 | Page 9 | Page 10 | Page 11 | Page 12 | Page 13 I tried to work things out despite having a Restraining Order in place. I wanted to avoid legal issues like this one from happening, so I broke my own R.Order to work things out... most of it happened on Video Chat, so I don't have logs of it. Yes it was a MAJOR mistake that makes the order kinda invalid, but I wanted closure. Then, for some odd reason, just now, here 6 months after all has been said and done, J decides NOW she wants her stuff back. She's getting a hearing on the 16th. Here's a copy of what I received: Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 This would be nice and everything, except for, I've gotten rid of J's stuff. After the IM logs in March and April, I got the point that they didn't want J's stuff back. After all, it does say they don't care about it... so after keeping her things safe for a long time, I needed to clear them out for future plans I have. I won't be able to get some Legal advice until Monday (curse-d 9/11 comming up after all, and it's a sunday), but I don't think J has a case because of the reasons they said on facebook chat. This is also why I NEVER get rid of my chatlogs -- you NEVER know when they might save you in a legal battle lol. Cleaver readers will note that I also asked for ~$150, but I NEVER got it. Let's say the judge rules in J's favor. if so I will site the $ I never received, and a ton of other things that she took that were mine (like my Tmo G2, that she pickpocketed off me and sold for $100, it was rooted and worth $500 ffs), and maybe countersue for my damages. So that sums up the MAJOR thing that's happened (there's another minor one, but it was swiftly dealt with). Thanks for reading! I will post the results of the hearing on the next post for when it happens.

It's a purple V. I took the original image: then, using Nero Photo Editor (due to lack of knowledge in photoshop) Inverted the colors (making the BG black and the V white), changed white into purple, and upped the color intensity to make it sort of shine in a few places. I had a few others before this one. I also used to use this as my encoder logo I made this using MS Word, using a black page color and diff color fonts. I also made the one I use now in MS word, cuz I'm too lazy to really get into image editing.

After talking to the author (as well as finding the thread that shows me the proper settings to use), I too, get a desynch on Jigglypuff & Gannondorf. The problem is it seems to desync on the stage right before it (on the transistion, unless it's intended that Fox "moonwalks" into the portal). 50 tries to dump this and 50 desynchs on a multitude of places. The furthest I got to was Stage 2, where ness beat the crap out of Fox. No settings were changed other than to dump audio/video. Not to mention the A/V problem as stated in my earlier post. Enabling dump audio & dump video only adds complexity to this, and seems to make it desynch a LOT more often. What could be done (but is something I don't have time/patience for), is savestates, but I tried to make a savestate while the movie was playing back, and it wanted me to put in my own input... so maybe if the run was redone in segments, maybe, but I'm not gonna be the one to do this. Sorry fellows, this'll be one movie you'll have to get Dolphin setup for to watch.

Well right off the getgo, fox decides to bair right off the stage... I have no idea why but I can't help bursting in laughter... I'm guessing I don't have the right Rom however, but that desync was just too funny to not post. I mean, he just kinda Bairs off the stage LOL ^_^ 3 Different roms later, still nothing on syncing from my end, even with the correct mem card file. After playing around with settings in Dolphin, I can't even get a test video audio/video to sync up. The video dumps SUPER fast, while the audio records the lag in my fps due to dumping. 2.5 minutes of audio vs 40 seconds of video. We have had instances people using old versions of tas's to do certain glitches however (bisqwit's lunar ball vanquishes the balls from the table, but only on an old version of fceu), but I think you have to get that kinda thing cleared with the people first. From the Rules on the site: No questionable emulator settings The emulator should be set to emulate the system as closely as possible while still allowing the game to be played. You should not depend on a particular emulator hack to gain speed. The BIOS must be real If the system you are using makes use of system BIOSes, only use real BIOSes, not hacked ones. The settings "Skip Idle Frames" shaves seconds off the run, as does skipping the gamecube bios. However, it's gaining an unfair advantage over consoles through emulator settings (and makes things slightly harder for people to encode, or maybe it's just this version of dolphin, idk for sure). Also, I can't seem to get "skip gamecube bios" unchecked at all, every time I turn it off, it still turns itself on... I'm gonna have to vote No on this for breaking the site rules, and due to playback issues. Also, I do give up on Dolphin encoding at least for now. Add some MD5 checksum checking of the Rom file, and save settings per movie that could affect the dumping and playback. It's got potential, it's just not quite there yet.

As expected, I get nothing but desyncs during the main menu. I'm not sure what specifically desyncs either. Care to copy all your settings here, and get MD5s of the ROM and Gamecube saves? I know it's asking a lot, but I think Dolphin really should have this built-in like Fceux does >.> I just want to rule everything out and make sure that some setting someplace isn't what's causing problems is all. Also, I think a verification movie for this might be a bit much, as I'm not sure how long the 100% movie would be, but if it's as long as SSBB, than a 24 hour verification movie sounds a bit long imo :P

K since the threads got merged, I'll post in this one. I shot a total of 183 pictures of and on my equipment taken with my Camera (an Olympus Stylus Tough 12 MP, not that it's the best camera for the job, but it's what I have), with a total file size of 893 MB raw footage. Now be advised, these pictures are about 4-6 MB each due to me taking them at 12 MP. Expect them to look ugly when ultra-zoomed in. I hand-selected the best of what I took. The lighting on my pictures changes based on how much light is in the photo I'm taking, so if I'm taking a picture of the TV while it's on, everything is darker. Some pictures I got away with using the flash, others I didn't. Also please note, I'm not taking a stance on this matter, and thus unbiased. I don't want to spark more flame-war/arguments on here. My pictures are what-you-see-is-what-I'm-seeing in it's unedited glory. I'm merely sharing my photos as info. Take it for what you will, and try to be civil about it please. First off, we have my equipment. I cleaned and scrubbed the equipment out with 70% rubbing alchy + qtips for the carts, and the rest I wiped down with a microfiber cloth and a bit of warm water from the sink to the left. Made it look very shiny :) Also note that other than the N64 Xpack, and the SNES Advantage, none of my equipment has been modified, and with the exception of those 2 things, everything is genuine Nintendo-brand stuff. I couldn't find my true SNES controllers as I knew this was gonna be a long project, so I was short on time. This is the TV I will be using. It's pretty run-of-the-mill. Note that it doesn't have a right audio RCA jack, not that it matters for the purposes of this test. ===GameBoy Color Pictures=== A late entry came about with my Sister's GameBoy Color., We didn't find it until after I made the SGB pictures, so some of these pictures may be out of order chronologically, but I properly ordered them by hand on Dropbox. My stats screen on a GBC. Shown here as verification that it's my game and such. Something I noticed while I was remembering things about the SGB was that the sea was blue, but on GBC and GBA-SP, it's red as you see here. Not that this has any significance, it was out of the ordinary for me, and thus I took pictures of the sea on everything to be as through as possible given my timeframe to work on this. Of course, what documentation would be complete without an in-game battle. I chose this for the lulz of course. It's also good for showing off the pixels of the pictures in my findings. ===GameBoy Advanced SP Pictures=== My GBA-SP with Red inside it. I couldn't show the GBC on with red inside it without getting it to stand up properly for my camera. This photo also has my stats screen on it as well, not that it's necessary because... ...I took one of the stats screen close-up. Here's a photo of the stats screen stretched out. I took extra photos for completionist's sake. You can stretch out the picture by using "R" on the GBA-SP, as I'm sure a lot of you know. The Red Sea on a GBA-SP. I didn't notice the red sea till I played it on my sis's GBC, so this picture was an afterthought. It was taken near my sink as shown in photo #1. I didn't take a stretched out photo because like I said, this was an afterthought. An encounter on my GBA-SP.I didn't get the other battle like I did on the GBC, so I settled on this guy. Shame it didn't grace us with its presence :( The above encounter stretched out. ===SNES + Super GameBoy Pictures=== The SNES I'm using sitting atop of the TV. I didn't even think to take a picture of the controllers hooked up to it as it would add another angle to the picture, and this picture had good lighting to it, imo. And now we get to the good stuff. Here's my stats screen on the SGB, with the SNES in view as verification. I ran the cables for the controller around the back and around the right side. You can also see the composite cables hooked up to the TV as well. Here's a picture of how the sea looks on an SGB. It also has the SNES in view for verification. Here's what I'm seeing from the SNES. The coloring is about right in this picture. It wasn't totally pitch-black for reasons I explained earlier. Here's the encounter with the SNES for verification. Now you can see the lighting problems I was talking about earlier... Here's a better look at what I'm seeing from the SNES from the above photo. ===N64 + Pokemon Stadium 2=== Here's my N64 sitting atop my TV. Again, no pictures of the controllers hooked up due to time. These last photos are a bit rushed in a sense. Not that I was short on time, but I got a few lucky ones that looked good that I didn't have to take multiples of. Pokemon Stadium 2 at the Intro Screen. Also showing this because you can see "Expansion Pack detected" on it. Here's a better look at the above picture. I got some good lighting from my cam in this one, showing off the colors. Here's a good look at the stats screen on my Pokemon Red, play thru Pokemon Stadium 2. This photo has my N64 in it for verification as well as showing off good lighting in it. The blue sea, as seen in Red thru Pokemon Stadium. All of the verification pictures I took had the N64 too blury, but if you notice the background, it's nearly the same lighting and style that everything else has been taken in. This photo was a bit rushed, and for that I'm sorry. If you zoom in on the top of the photo, you can see the base of my N64, so I'm offering that for verification. The encounter as seen thru Red on Pokemon Stadium 2. Also has the N64 for verification. Another good photo that I didn't need a second take for. I hope you enjoyed the fruits of my labor on this matter. I know it's not much, but maybe the experts can draw some conclusions based on my photos and we can all learn something. That's the motivation behind all of this, knowledge.

I'm curious on the proper procedure for encoding SGB movies, whether they should have a 4:3 Aspect Ratio or not. Some snipets on IRC:
(11:57:03 AM) Velitha: Having a SGB irl (it's with my parents with my snes), I would say that techinally, it's played on the snes, and the snes has a 4:3, therefore, sgb should have a 4:3 AR, but I'd like to hear what other people say before I make the encode (12:00:07 PM) Ilari: There's also the argument about what is intended. Sometimes it is blatantly obvious that AR correction should be performed. Sometimes AR correction would actually distort the image. But for most games, it might not be easy to tell. (12:02:15 PM) Velitha: what if black bars were added to make it 4:3, but doesn't distort the image? (12:02:45 PM) Ilari: Velitha: On real system? (12:02:51 PM) Velitha: on the encode (12:03:11 PM) Ilari: Velitha: On the encode, those black bars would be pointless (at least in primary encode). (12:03:36 PM) Velitha: they wouldn't be pointless as the encode is now 4:3 without distortion (12:04:21 PM) Velitha: let me take a pic to help explain what I mean... (12:04:31 PM) adelikat: pointless because it would defeat the purpose of the ar (12:04:54 PM) adelikat: the point would be to make it look like how it would look on a super nintendo on a tv (12:05:05 PM) Zeupar: indeed (1:03:59 PM) NachPlus: Velitha: I'd say it depends on the game
I'm headed home to fire up Pokemon Red on my Super Gameboy, and going to use my Olympus Stylus Tough 12MP camera to take a few pictures of what the game looks like played on a live console to determine if it is stretched out, and if it is, to what degree. I'll also be playing Red on Pokemon Stadium 2 (not sure if I have #1) for completionist's sake. I'll edit this later when I get back with the results.

Archive.org Linky
I don't know why, but the video is so blurry that it's almost unwatchable. Is it the archive.org player doing that?
Because archive.org chooses to use a corrupted version of it's 512kb to stream, it looks like crap. Fixing it will take some time, if you don't mind, grab the direct linky, or watch it on the ad-infested DM for now, and I'll get to work on a 512kb script to fix archive.org.

YES vote from me, about time to see the last famtasia movie finally fall ^_^ Direct Linky Archive.org Linky DailyMotion Linky Also I'm not big on HD encodes, nor do I have access to an uncapped youtube account, so if somebody else wants to handle HD I would be OK with it.
