Just got back from a short holiday (of three days, lol). I did a small test run using the new things I got and learned by your route ideas and got 1:34, I did, however, made mistakes worth up to at least 90 seconds if not more, so I guess 1:31 may or may not be possible for a non-TAS unless I can find a faster route or stuff like that (or if I can manipulate crits better. >_>). Since I don't know how to watch the WIPs, I couldn't check the second Snorlax skip but I figured it out on my own which was good. ^^ I will tape my route for that tomorrow so you can check if I did it the fastest way. I'm not sure, hence why I'll tape.

Of course, I didn't think of that, just flying to Cinnabar first time. I'll do that then. And no, doing the WtW one more time does not outweight the time it takes to set it up. I did that in a testrun and came to the conclusion that it was to slow (hence I grabbed Surf) but I forgot that the effect stays when you Fly. I wonder how much time I can save. I'm guessing a lot.

Thank you for your feedback, primo. I really appreciate it. :) It also makes me want to redo it and implement your ideas. If so much time can be saved, then I will definitely redo. ^__^ I make a few stupid mistakes in the run I kinda want to fix. As you said, I bought one Escape Rope more because it was an error in route planning. Not getting a level up before Brock was kinda depressing as well (1 EXP away from level up, darn Caterpie. >:( ). Some things I didn't know or thought of, will definitely be used in the next run. I'll have to figure out how to skip the second Snorlax though, but that shouldn't be to hard I guess. Also, I decided to just Surf over to Blaine, because I'd have to WtW thrice, correct? One to reach Sabrina, one to reach Blaine and one to reach the E4. Then there are the random things like bumping into walls or taking wrong turns (I kinda disliked the part where the guy in Viridian City kept bugging me for example. >_>). I also wasn't aware that Pound was so slow (I was aware of the fact that Bubblebeam was faster though, but I didn't think it would make such a difference. Again, I have to say I deeply appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Perhaps not terrible, but obviously sub-optimal, even to the casual viewer (they've already seen it executed perfectly once). In a TAS, this is not acceptable. To make the point more poignant, a single extra hit point takes 5 steps. Each step takes 18 frames, a total of 1.5 seconds per hit point. Ten hit points would add 15 seconds to the run.
I agree. In my run I made the mistake to have Mew at like 12 Hit Points when I used the glitch the second time but because it's not TAS and I was almost done, I kinda negletted (sp?). The first glitch was awesome though, with 2 HP remaining. ;D That said, route-wise, do you think my run was good enough. I feel I've should have gotten Mega Punch and stuff like that. Oh well.

Correct, in RB you can escape rope out of Gyms. I never did that in this run because it either disables the glitch or doesn't win me any time (buying an extra one + waiting for the 'cutscene'). I could have escape rope'd out of the building where I get the Bike Voucher but I counted that Teleporting when leaving SS Anne was faster. And yes, escape roping during or before the glitch deactivates it. But yeah, thanks for the compliment, I appreciate that. ^_^

I think the guard doesn't ask about the Earth Badge either because I never encountered Giovanni (or triggered him to get back to his Gym) or because the trigger is out of reach (sp?). Also, the WtW glitch could possibly work with two Pokemon, but you'd have to make them both faint. Leaving the Safari Zone disables the glitch, but being teleported out because your Pokemon are KO does not, so more Pokemon = more fainting I think (never tested it).

Meh, I should have told you guys about the whole Snorlax skip. I've done a lot of testing on it and I figured out a lot and that was one of the things I found. Anyway, I just got back from holiday and I uploaded the final two segments of my speedrun. I clocked in at 1:38. Not that great I guess, but it's pretty good for a non-TAS I suppose. In case you guys wanna see my run or comment/ask and stuff, here's the link: http://nl.youtube.com/profile?user=ThomazSDA Segment 18-22 are the most important ones. Edit: I got an error on segment 23. Stupid YouTube. Segment 22 is being processed also.

Hm, seems like I've been away for a while. I've started recording my regular speedrun (no TAS) and I'm pretty much 2/3th in the game. I'm saved with a Poisoned Mew in the Safari Zone at 1:03. I poisoned Mew with one of the Bikers on route to Fuchsia. In the first 500 steps, I defeat Koga, Erika, get Ice Beam and a Max Ether (exactly 500 steps, lol). Then, I use the glitch to get to Sabrina. After that, I get Surf, Escape Rope out, make my way to Cinnabar Island and get the Key, Escape Rope out and set up the glitch in the Safari Zone again. I pretty much only defeat Blaine in the next 500 steps and bike a lot, I teleport back to Viridian City and bike all the way to the League. That's pretty much my route. I have no idea if this is the fastest, but yeah.

Darn, I was play-testing with my French Yellow for some tricks and stuff and I completely forgot that the glitch city glitch wears off when entering a building (I assume that that is the reason). I visited the Old Mansion (and Escape Roped out) after leaving the Safari Zone and never got called back. ;( I was hoping I could do the Surf to Cinnabar, Secret Key and Blaine my second WtW cycle (Erika and Koga where the first + Ice Beam and an Max Ether). Finished Yellow with a horrible time of 1:47 using Mew and I skipped Surf, Strength, Poke Tower, Snorlax, Silph & Co, Gamecorner and the Earth Badge. Edit: scratch that, it's the Escape Rope that resets it, leaving the Old Mansion via the other route works fine (although it doesn't give me enough steps for Blaine. ;_; )

Yeah, unassisted. But it won't be accepted because of the walk-through-walls glitch, hence why I upload it on YouTube. And darn, there's one thing blocking me from skipping Cut altogether. >_<

... God, I can be such a noob sometime. >_> Yes, it worked. I just got it to work in my Blue version. Nevermind me guys. =( I was pretty sure I jumped on the correct step. I guess I did it correct on the emulator (and today with Yellow) for the first time. Speedrun of Yellow coming up on YouTube. ^_~

Okay. Shameless self bump. The walk-through-walls glitch works in the European Yellow version. Not sure about RB though. ^___^

English of course, I don't think there's a Dutch version. =P Edit: darn it. Just got the glitch to work on the emulator. >_< Certainly looks different. I don't get ding-donged in mid-air at all on the GB. lol, this glitch is cool, I skipped Silph & Co, Earth badge, Surf, Strength, Poke Flute etc. In the League right now. I want the NTSC version! ;__________________;

Nope, I cannot walk through walls in the Safari Zone entrance. I just walk in circles right below the right guard until Mew faints. I'm playing the game on Red on the emulator now btw (and having fun with savestates. XD), about to glitch Mew.

Yeah, I'm using the original game. I'm gonna have to test the mid-air ding-dong because I recall it not happening. But I'm sure that I get ding-donged (lol) right when I land after jumping from the ledge. And I've managed to figure out the Snorlax skip thanks to samthedigital. I forgot to visit Snorlax before attempting it, it finally works now! =D Edit: okay, I tested it. This is what I do exactly: 1. I start in the Safari Zone with Mew at 39 HP and Poisoned. Leaving the SZ takes 4 steps. 496 steps left. 2. I fly to Fuchsia (I flew to Viridian in my other attempts). 3. I start biking like a mad man and when Mew has exactly 1 HP, I give it 4 Potions. 344 steps left. 4. When Mew reaches 1 HP again, I give it 1 Potion. 24 steps left. 5. I count the steps and on the 499th step, I jump over the ledge. 6. I (indeed) get ding-donged in mid-air and I'm teleported back to the SZ. 7. I walk around until Mew faints and I'm teleported to Viridian City. I seriously wonder what I'm doing wrong. =/

Hey guys, I have a few questions. I've tried the Walk-through-Walls glitch but I can't get it to work. :S This is what I do (I used Pokemon Blue though, but I have Red also): 1. Heal in Viridian City; 2. Enter and leave Safari Zone, then say 'No'; 3. Save and reset; 4. Leave Safari Zone; 5. Fly (with level 100 Mew) to Pewter City and engage the Bug Catcher with 4 Pokemon (doesn't really matter which guy, as long as they can poison me); 6. Get Poisoned and wait for Poison to lower my HP drastically (I use Thunder Wave to waste turns); 7. Fly to Viridian City and proceed to count the steps thanks to Poison; 8. On the 500th step, I hop over the ledge (lol, was about to say Fence) and I'm teleported back to the Safari Zone; 9. I make Mew faint by walking inside the Safari Entrance and I'm teleported back to Viridian City. 10. And nothing really happens. =( Could it be game or name dependant? Also, how exactly do you perform the Snorlax skip? I've tried pretty much everything (especially in Yellow where's more random stuff), I even bought Pokemon Red (the other one broke) again just for this. Plox halp. ^__^ And to stay on topic, how's the run doing?

That is exactly it. I gotta say, though, that I chose to just Mew glitch Chansey from the Butterfree guy. Now, with the newly discovered Snorlax skip, I can get the Super Rod earlier and most important of all, It saves time not visiting Rock Tunnel, gotta implement that in my route (I still need to visit that route for Voltorb, Magnemite, Zapdos and few Water Pokemon I need to fish for). I feel I need to optimise the route more so that I can level up lots of Pokemon at the same time (I need to have the Nido, Mew and Abra in my team most of the time) so I can only deposit 3 each time. Oh well, I'll figure it out. =P I'm at work now anyway, so I have enough time. >_> Oh, btw, for the Safari Pokemon, I will Surf next to Seafoam Islands to trigger them, then catch a few Pokes in the cave (not Articuno though). Edit: I feel stupid. I just read a part of the TAS and deleting Pokes seems to be the way to go.

When randomly browsing the TAS forums, I couldn't help but notice the link in Primo's sig leading to this topic. I've had plans for doing a 'Catch them all' speedrun myself and I worked out the entire route (although it can be tweaked a lot, still). I'm currently working on a Pokemon Blue normal run with the disappearing Snorlax glitch and after that, I can finally start my 100%. It will be little different because the amount of Luck I'd need for certain Pokemon (e.g. Chansey) would be hazardous for my health and sanity, I suppose. :3 Note that this isn't TAS, but it should still be helpful for ideas. So if anyone want to few my route, just gimme a call. Also, first post on the forum. ^_~
