Hi guys, I haven't posted here in like years haha. I'm routing a humanly possible theoretical TAS of Pokémon Blue "Catch 'em all" but getting all badges and beating the E4, probably even obtain the Diploma at some point. I will be using the PC Underflow glitch because that makes the run pretty neat (with JACK and all). Now, in order to properly start the run, it's probably best to Brock through Walls to Saffron (with a quick visit of the Pewter Museum for the Old Amber, feels like that would be faster than flying over there later with the Bike + JACK and a visit of Indigo Plateau with a Rope back from Victory Road). Now, a Bulbasaur with a Special DV of 14-15 will easily reach the required Special to get the BtW started, however if I remember right, when people where planning No Save Corruption for the first time, there was talk about a Charmander with DV's of 1/0/2/4 also being possible. I altered the DVs of my 'Mander for testing purposes and while the glitch does activate, I have barely any control of the movements. Does anyone remember what actually worked for this? My reason for Charmander was that the Rival fight would be faster and by deathwarping, I could get a level 100 Nidoking very easily. To be fair, I haven't really decided who my main battler will be since not much fighting is done when you can just JACK past everything. There's also the issue that none of the level 100's will be easily Red Bar'd. I guess I can Poison Mew upon catching and then heal when it gets low. That's all besides the point really. I just need to figure out how I want it lol. my question is, did we every figure out if we can BtW with just Charmander's DV's? Edit: one more question. Aside from 91 Coins and 94 Coins in the Coin Case, what other way is there to get the RIVAL's item? Can you use the player's name or the preset names for the Rival to find it in PC Underflow? If possible, I would want to skip the Coin Case.

Is there a way to skip the badge checks on Yellow?
You can skip Brock and Giovanni's badge check by WtW or you can skip all by item underflow warping to the E4.

Brock through Walls only works in Red and Blue. You can't Brock skip in Yellow. =(

Sorry for not responding in a while. Have been busy (yay graduation!). The route I'm probably gonnna use for segmented BtW: Segment 1: Set Text Speed to 'Fast' Set Battle Animation to 'Off' Start the game Name self "-" (or really whatever you desire, it's not important for igt) Name rival "Z " Get Charmander and name it "A" (get DVs: 1/0/2/4; fun...) Save before rival fight Segment 2: Fight rival (I haven't figured out how the fastest battle would look like, because the crit message takes time as well. 4 perfect crits would KO Squirtle, but that's never gonna happen, so a 5KO is probably the way to go, which is still 5 crits or 5 max damage rolls...) Get Pokédex (talk to Oak from the back) and save before route 1 (this is still a difficult segment, but cuts out a save by splitting up route 1) Segment 3: Go to Viridian Forest (and through as much grass as possible to save time, I call it yolo grass) Pick up the Antidote Fight the Bug Catcher (same thing as the Rival fight. I need to figure out what is doable and what is the fastest method) Pick up the Potion Enter Pewter City Mart and buy Escape Rope, Burn Heal, Parlyz Heal and 2 Poké Balls (not neccesarily in that order, I forgot which order was best) Set cursor to Save and Save after talking to the 'Brockbringer' Segment 4: BtW and heal in Saffron City PokéCenter Go to Route 6 and death-warp just before the Bug Catcher by fainting to Meowth's Bite Go to Route 7 and Save Segment 5: Encounter a level 19 Bellsprout with a Special DV between 0 and 3 on the lower left patch of grass and get Poisoned by trying to escape and fail Escape on the second turn Walk all the way to floor 6 of Celadon's Mart and buy a Fresh Water Faint by taking one extra step Press Start and rearrange your items so that the Potion is in slot 6 (this can be done before fainting, the difference is the text that appears during the T/F glitch) Head to Route 6 and a text/the Start menu will pop up. Encounter MissingNo Do whatever first turn (for segmented, a Scratch might be better because it increases the chance of catching MissingNo) and get Water Gun'd Heal Water Gun with a Potion and get Water Gun'd again Heal Water Gun with a Potion and let MissingNo use Sky Attack Catch MissingNo with a Poké Ball Enter the Guard house Swap the Potion to the 2nd place in your list and toss the first item, then toss the rest of the items Talk to the Guard Swap the item 'PokéTrainer' with the 'Master Ball 18x' and toss 9. Warp to the HoF. Obviously, if I knew how to warp to the end credits, I would. =P

A few things: 1) I would still get the Antidote in Viridian Forest, because it's literally in front of you, unless TAS can walk around it and buy something else instead in a faster time? 2) I'm pretty sure Pidgey can't reach the Fresh Water before dieing. He needs exactly 23 HP. Remember that the moment Pidgey gets Poisoned, it receives damage at the end of the turn. =( 3) When you faint after the Fresh Water, you can walk down towards the gate and MissingNo will appear before you enter the gate. There's no need for depositing the Fresh Water at all. I assume you'll whif an attack on your first turn so that MissingNo can Water Gun you btw? The Pidgey fast kill on Weedle sounds intruiging. However, a level 6 Charmander can 5HKO the Weedle with 2 normal attacks and 3crits. Sure, the rival fight is slow, but even Bulba isn't that much faster. What I'm trying to say is that I think the Charmander route is faster because although Charmander's DVs are bad, they are perfect for the death-warp and it doesn't involve depositing your starter either. And by skipping Poke Balls until Pewtwer City, you skip the Viridian Mart entirely. The biggest issue I have with my own route (except for difficulty..........) is that I'm not too sure about buying stuff VS picking up. Gonna require some extensive testing I think. Should I write down my route (no big difference aside from those I mentioned) to see if there's anything I missed?

Oh, you're right! I guess there's just an unloaded area between those two spots. But yeah, that does save me a bit of time. =) Now, if I can fix the other issues I have, it might just be possible to sub 14 segmented. Edit: I just redid the last part. Had a battle on the lower left patch of grass on Route 7 and didn't need to enter Mr.Psychic's house. I walked some extra distance just to get that an encounter in that part. A real run would just get it on the first grass, so that's 2-3 seconds saved? I did have to remove the extra Potion I picked up, so assuming I skip that, I gain maybe 7 seconds? Anyway, final time is now 13:43. As it is looking right now, I'd say I can get sub 14 by about 3 seconds lol...

I set Charmander's DVs to 1024 yeah (and by setting, I meant I'm using the emulator to speed up the process. No need to make it difficult if it's still testing). And lol, good point, I won't need to set that either. =P

Ok. So I just did a Blue run using Charmander and I noticed something really weird, but very annoying... I couldn't walk to the left during all this! Due to my route from Route 3 to Saffron, I couldn't enter the Pokécenter. I have to go left once after reaching Saffron. If I don't, the game freezes because I walk over something nonexistant. So, to get rid of BtW, I had to enter Mr.Psychic's house, then walk out and heal in the Pokécenter. =X I was a bit lazy so I went for a critical Gust from Pidgey for the death-warp, but in reality, it should't be much more time. And I also didn't get a perfect Bellsprout encounter on the lower left patch of grass on Route 7 (when I walked up, I got the right DV, but when I went left, it was different lol). No matter, the only effect this had, was that I had to use my second Potion I picked up. I will skip that Potion in a segmented run, although I will hate myself for it. Also, in this run, I should've saved more often due to mimicing a segmented run and I shouldn't have critted so much... Regardless, final time is 00:13:56. Assuming I can fix the going left issue, skip TM18 and buy another item instead, a segmented run might just sub 14. It's gonna be tough though. Edit: I realise that this a TAS topic, so I really don't want to smother it with segmented stuff, but I'm not even sure if sub 14 is possible right now. Seeing how tough the few battles in this run would be, I'd need at least 5 saves (1: manip Charmander's DVs; 2: Rival battle; 3: Route 1-Route 2 with yolo grass; 4: Viridian Forest + shopping; 5: Route 7 Bellsprout + the rest). That's 24 seconds extra... Oh btw, I checked "Z " as the Rival's name and that worked. I only needed to toss 9 PokéTrainers to warp! =)

Yeah, grinding it out...But I can recover save files, which means I can get the right ID, then save and reset for a good Charmander.

Yeah, I just tested it and 1/0/2/4 does work like you said. It would be really great to be able to use a Charmander with higher Atk...I'm not gonna like the segmented run if a specific ID is gonna be needed, but there's nothing I can really do about it (although hard, I have the means to get both a good Charmander a workable ID).

So, saving costs about 6 seconds. I reckon I could go from the start of the game until just Route 1 (getting 11 Atk and the required Special for 16 Special later on + a good rival fight is gonna suck though). Then one save for Route 1 + Route 2 I think. Another one for Viridian Forest + Pidgey (so the BtW one). Then save after death-warp. So 4 saves sounds ok I guess. Hard but doable. And not so insane that it will take months to get it... <_< Also, I just finished a testrun on Pokemon Red (so I had to faint in the Dojo...) and got 15 minutes. 14 is probably possible. 13 though? I'm not sure.

Maybe the chicken way out, but one could opt to save after death-warping from the Meowth. =P Actually, thinking purely in terms of segmented, you can easily go all the way from BtW to the Meowth encounter and save until you reach Route 7. It would be annoying, but not too tough. What item do you use generally to warp? I just pick Ether and toss 16.

Oh man, can you imagine the horror of getting that last sequence right for segmented? Get a first grass encounter Bellsprout with 31-32 Special (1/4 chance for right DV). Which grass exactly isn't even that important since you can choose the heal moment anyway. Escape on the second turn. Get the items in Celadon -> Deathwarp and fight MissingNo. Oh, I just realised. You have to get damaged for Potion healing anyway, so scratch Potion as the 255 item, because it wastes a turn. So, double X-Defend, then catch MissingNo on the first ball -> End-warp. Fun...

I never timed the kid on Route 1. All I know is that the Old Man Potion takes 5 seconds to get. Remember, if I want to use Potions as a means to get the 255 item, I need at least two. One to heal Pidgey before reaching the Fresh Water while it's taking Poison damage. Edit: as for Poke Balls, I would need 2 or 3, depending on the position of the Poke Ball during the MissingNo encounter. =P

lol, I'm dumb. I was testing the Abra-less route on my Pokemon Red rom. Oddish's Special is 75 so I can't reach the 31-32 Special lol. No matter, the Poison strat will still be faster so it'd be cool to see the endtime with this. Anyway. After two X-Defends: 24 Atk (-) MissingNo VS Pidgey 17 HP / 8 Def: 15-18 damage 24 Atk (-) MissingNo VS Pidgey 17 HP / 9 Def: 13-16 damage 26 Atk (+) MissingNo VS Pidgey 17 HP / 8 Def: 17-20 damage 26 Atk (+) MissingNo VS Pidgey 17 HP / 9 Def: 15-18 damage So there's a chance that a level 4 Pidgey might survive. A level 5 Pidgey has a better chance of course, but then you're required to get it to 17 HP before catching... However, if I follow my own route, which uses Potions as the 255 item, I can reset until I get a double Water Gun, which deals a measly 3-4 damage per hit. I'm already gonna hate that particulary segment though, haha. If I went for the X-Defend, then I should get the Potion and Antidote, 2x Poke Balls, TM18 and one extra item.

Looks like I'll be doing a run with Bulba/Pidgey then. ;P (currently doing a testrun on the emulator to see how stuff goes) As for items, I think it is best to buy 2 Poke Balls, a Burn Heal and a Parlyz Heal in Viridian City, get the Antidote and get the Potion next to the Bug Catcher and a Potion from whichever one is faster between the old man and the extra one in Viridian Forest (isn't the secret pick up sound longer? I would have to test that). Finally, we get TM18 and the Fresh Water. Isn't that right? Edit: nevermind, the Old Man Potion is faster by roughly a second.

Ah yes. Do we know exactly what the DVs need to be? (before I start a new run with Bulbasaur only to have it discarded halfway through... :P)

There's but one problem. Remember that Charmander's base Special is only 50 in gen I. :( He would need level 8 for that. I was thinking that we can catch ourselves a level 4 Pidgey with 17 HP, get to Route 7, get Poisoned and heal with a Potion when necessary. Like after 16 steps for example.

Hm, I might have been mistaken about death-warping then. Oh well, you learn something new everyday. I probably didn't menu-flash to get rid of the "Hey, do you have Pikachu?" trainer. I have no knowledge on Cooltrainer, but I'd say it's faster? Edit: since I do segmented runs, I would just reset for the Special required of course. =P I think Pikach could deal with Weedle faster, but the 16 Special is an obvious issue, so I think Bulba is faster in the end, even if we can't death-warp. No, wait. We can use Bulba/Pidgey for BtW, then deposit Bulba and death-warp on Route 6, get poisoned on Route 7 and get the Fresh Water.

Oh wow. I missed a lot. I spend my yesterday evening on recording a run up to Viridian Forest. I don't think my current Bulba can reach 16 Special... (I only reset for low HP/Def and high Atk). lol, a reset then, I guess. Edit: and yeah, you need a trainer afaik. The whole reason I go and fight Gary in my 100% run is because after death-warping, I can't go back up without triggering a fight.

Yeah, you're right. Thing is, I figured that buying in Viridian would save you the time of having to manually set Potion to the sixth spot lol. I suppose Pewter is still faster yeah. Hm... I just did a run with the save I had at Brock skip. Since I didn't pick up any items at all during the run aside from Antidote + Potion, I had to improvise and buy stuff in Saffron City lol. And of course, after dieing twice, I didn't have enough money for the Fresh Water... XD Regardless, a real run would solve this issue obviously. And yeah, Blue with Meowth sounds like a great idea. Level 16 Meowth with max Attack could OHKO low defense Bulbasaur without a crit (for segmented, a crit will be easier to get though lol). I got 17 min with this detour, so I assume that a real run would get eh, 15 maybe? Unassisted of course. I only saved once in this run though, so perhaps 15 would be impossible to get. 16 should be possible though.

Hm, yeah, that'd be four turns. 1) Use whatever move 2) Heal Water Gun damage (128) 3) Heal Water Gun damage (127) 4) Catch (255) I would really want to buy in Viridian, but there aren't enough items to get to 6th...so I guess: Pick up Antidote and Potion, then buy 2 Poke Balls, Awakening, Burn Heal and Parlyz Heal.

Yeah, you're right. I was just at that part with testing and found out it didn't work. =( Oh well, small detour I guess. The rest worked though.

Oh, you're right. That would work! Potion wouldn't be too useful because the heal at Saffron is required so Bulbausaur would be at full health. But yes, yes, the Ball would work!

Yeah, I had been thinking of that as well. I doubt getting a MissingNo from grass really is faster. Wait...It's a long shot, but you could death-warp from Route 6, faint from the Dojo guy, get the sixth item x255, then walk to Celadon and get the Fresh Water. The only issue would be getting an item that can be used in battle to get 255. Bulbasaur would be healed after Saffron and after fainting... Are there any items one can use? Well, there's the X-Special in the tunnel between Vermillion and Cerulean.
