It's been a lot of time since I last played the game, but seem to remember that you could OHKO the Zombie Dragon using Garr's Kyrie(or whatever his kill undead skill is).
Hmm, I didn't know Area 88 had a sequel. I played the SNES version of A88 quite a lot, so a TAS of CAW would be appreciated at least by me. Sorry I cannot offer you any advice.
Super Boob Wars: Boob Frontier?
Most of the normal battles can be automatically escaped, so it's mostly just going around and killing bosses. You might need to level somewhat to get new techinques and spirit skills, but I doubt you'd need to grind all that much.
Being my favorite game from the BoF series, and seeing some others mention this in the Wishlist thread, is there anyone willing to give it a go?
Actually, in the above, Rei has the best natural Agility, so he should ne used if you need high speed.
One skill that could be abused is the Super Combo. Costs 8 AP, and you need to press the buttons that appear on the screen in certain time (I think it's 12 seconds or so) and it then does damage according to how many hits you got. With frame advance you could get absolutely crazy amount of hits for some really nasty damage, and as this skill is available quite early in the game (Master Bunyan), I'm pretty sure it could be used speed through any battles you need to fight.
Of course, this is going to be quite a long TAS, as the current non-TAS is something like 7-8 hours.
Garr's Gambit (halves hit%, critical if hits) costs 0 AP, so it could be abused quite nicely. Other zero cost skills that might be mapulatable include Jump (Random damage), Multistrike (1-3 attacks, half damage per attack) and Risky Blow (same as Gambit). Garr can also get his best weapon (in terms of attack power), by around mid-game, the only minus being that he takes 5% MaxHP damage each turn in battle.
As for characters, I think Ryu and Garr would be best, with either Rei (his best weapon is a really rare drop from a really rare and powerful monster) or Momo (her best weapon has the highest power of all weapons and can be bought).
The Chain Formation is extremely powerful if you take your time to get it and level Ryu so he has a lot of Agility, that way you can get EX Turns even against the last boss with all your characters.
I'm really not sure which Masters would be the best, but since most attacks will most likely be physical attacks, then any master that gives +Power are probably best for this sort of game.
There's also a speedrun FAQ here. Haven't read it, but might come in handy.
Hard to say. Depends mostly on how many units you and your enemy is controlling. In the first few missions, maybe 1-2 minutes per turn and later game, 5-10 minutes, I'd guess. Of course for a normal human, most of that time is spent thinking about what units and attacks to use and such things.
I checked the GBA board and didn't see a thread for these 2 games. Description of the game can be found in this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Robot_Taisen:_Original_Generation.
Reasons for TASing:
Extremely luck manipulation. Attacks can be forced to miss/hit as long as you are not facing 0%100% probabilities. Even better, the game shows these percentages before each attack. Also, characters with Luck attribute can even dodge/hit impossible attacks.
Attack animations can be turned off, making the game way faster.
Some missions can be ended "prematurely" by destroying a certain enemy, usually a boss. That is, when boss is destroyed, all other enemy units will retreat, thus ending the scenario.
Most text can be fast-forwarded with autofire/frame advance.
Not for TASing:
Both of these games are quite long, with 40 missions for the first game and 42 missions for the second. With some basic luck manipulation, I finished the 1st game within 297 turns and the 2nd within 403 turns. If not trying to get the "secret" last mission, these numbers will probably drop to something like 200 and 250.
Not destroying all enemies will lead you to have sub-par pilots and robots. This can make the game somewhat more difficult.
It seems they only have one save-state slot, it doesn't have a "start from reset" type of recording and i'm not really sure about slowdown/frame advance. Also the save/load state seems to be somewhat unstable, at least what I understood from their tutorial. You should probably download newest version of WinVice(its the emu they are using) and check the documentation.
If you want to make a C64 TAS, you should probably look here http://www.c64-longplays.de.vu/, it seems they have a C64 emulator with basic TAS functions.
100% Finnish, at least if there wasn't any mix-ups at the maternity hospital... That's because I was born in Sweden even though my parents are (supposedly) Finnish. Whatever, I just think my self as a member of Homo Sapien rather than Finnish.
No desynch anymore, yay! I got to say, very good, very good indeed. But, I don't think you'll be able to get a sub 4 hour run, as the SDA run clocks in at 5:26 and thats segmented so basically it has some crude luck manipulation. Of course, frame perfection and "perfect" luck can shave off a lot of time. I just hope you finish the run, even if it takes over 4 hours.
Bob A, Bisqwit: Yeah, your probably right, now that I think about it. But, some other game might have crashed or suffered some other kind of "fatal" reaction to a missing character.
Very nice, at least up until the Ifrit Battle, where it desynchs like with everybody else. The "Skip Celes, get KUTAN instead" trick was really something that made my jaw drop. I guess the game has somekind of safe mechanism if you skip a plot important person somehow...
