That second one makes me think of Seicross, you really sure that's not it?

That's actually the other way around—Gunforce came out five years before the first Metal Slug. Though calling it "influence" isn't entirely accurate either, the team that made the two Gunforce games and In the Hunt left Irem after having made Gunforce 2 and formed Nazca Corporation, who made the first Metal Slug game before being acquired by and merged into SNK. So Gunforce is more like the proto-Metal Slug.

While it's a bit of a shame that it and Citra are (officially) dead, the Yuzu devs were extremely uncautious and obvious about what they were doing. They were openly sharing roms on their Discord, had the actual Switch SDK on their Google Drive, and when Tears of the Kingdom leaked two weeks early, the Yuzu build that was able to play it was only available to Patreon subscribers—and they saw a huge increase in subscribers in that period of time. So they were not only 100% encouraging piracy, they actively made money off of it. There was no way they were winning the case, and settling for what probably was all the money they had and shutting down was by a pretty wide margin the least painful possible result for them.

So my thought on this is the question of that since they differ from the regular movies on the site in key ways, and have already been showcased on live events with the videos out there on stuff like GDQ's own Youtube channel, do they really need to go through the same submission and publication process as everything else, to the point of creating dummy input files to force them into the existing system that's clearly not made with them in mind? Since they are TAS content made by the TASVideos community, having them on the site with stuff like submission comments, technical explanations, and things like that is of course something very desirable. But many of them have such different goals, some have been more like art installations than gameplay, many have been made with a different intent from the start. They've been made more for spectacle than showing off theoretical perfect gameplay. They're often conceptually different from even playarounds. I think it would make more sense to just create a separate section of the website for them. Another heading in Movies, under Publications and Submissions. "Showcases", or "Events", or something like that. A list of them, similar to the Publications list, and individual pages for each one, similar to the other Movie pages—but both made for this purpose, without requiring any input file, or anything like that, that simply does not apply to them. The way I'm seeing is that because they were shown off at live events, they're effectively already published. Unless there's some reason to not have them featured on the website, it just seems kinda silly to overcomplicate it and treat them like regular submissions/publications when they so obviously do not fit in that box.

Oh boy So you're about to head into a bit of a, uh, period of Castlevania. So you know how for seasons one and two, season one was pretty much all setup and all the payoffs were in season two? Seasons three and four follow that pattern too, but rather than four episodes setup + eight episodes payoff there's ten episodes setup and ten episodes payoff. S3 is... not a very well regarded season but it's probably better when you can watch S3 and S4 back to back rather than wait months to find out what the point of all that was. There are more of the iconic Castlevania monsters coming, but S3+S4 definitely does their own thing. S1+S2 was loosely adapting Dracula's Curse and Curse of Darkness, S3+S4 aren't based on anything. And Grant is straight up not in the show because one of the showrunners didn't like Grant. He gets some small nods (and some of them are kind of ambiguous if it's really a reference) but the cursed pirate himself doesn't show up.

Finished Amphibia yesterday. The beginning wasn't the strongest, but it had fully grown out of being "The Owl House at home" by the end of the first season. I do think it was hampered a bit by the format of two shorts per full episode, and it's no coincidence that all the episodes that became my favourite episodes were ones that instead were one full length episode. It definitely managed to stick the landing, having a satisfying, sensible, bittersweet and kinda poignant conclusion with no cop-outs. Okay, there's one thing that you might consider a cop-out, but it followed along a theme and was so well executed that it didn't even feel like one. A solid high B-tier cartoon, I'd say. Once it got going it was never really bad, though early season 3 had some pacing issues, and it never truly reached the heights of the cartoons I'd consider A-tier. Oh and also Marcy best character

If I press the search button and search for "super mario", I get a list of ten game results, but this list does not contain Super Mario Bros or Super Mario World or Super Mario 64. And that's probably what I'm looking for if I'm typing those search terms. I think this would benefit from some "exact title match" feature, listing exact title matches first and then going on to text matches.
Someone brought the new site and specifically the search up over in the speedrunning thread on SA and were also confused over how searching for "mario" didn't find any of the main Mario games. After being confused about it myself for a bit, I managed to figure out that the basic search result page is paginated, but this is kind of extremely badly telegraphed. There's the "Next" button, but if you just went there from the search in the top right, it's actually pretty easy to overlook with where it is. Putting in an actual page selector like on forum pages, and/or putting the "Next" button below the results rather than above would probably go a long way here. And/or making the basic search sort by relevancy rather than alphabetically, like the advanced search. Edit: Also pointed out was that if you hit "More..." under Newest Submissions on the front page, the list defaults to sorting by oldest first, while the list on the front page is sorted by newest first. Would probably make sense to have the submission list page also be sorted by newest first by default.

Hey guess who completely forgot about this But here you go: https://kenny.next-era.net/tvirc.7z Logs from 2010-07-01 to 2020-11-07. There are some empty lines which is where lines with my password in them were removed and I didn't think of figuring out how to automagically delete the linebreaks too. The first log file is preeeeeetty big since I hadn't found the option to split log files by month yet so the first file is like four years of logs in one file (2133159 lines!), but starting with August 2014 it's one file per month until the end.

The Owl House is indeed great, and the second half of season 2 is gonna start airing March 19th. And then, sadly, season 3 will be the final season, and not even a full season but just three longer special episodes. I can only imagine that it's because it got too gay. Amphibia returns for the second part of season three on the same day. It's one I haven't watched yet, but is on my to watch list and planning to start once I'm done with season 2 of Yashahime. Since I last posted here I have also finished up Castlevania and DuckTales (very good), and both started and finished Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (not bad) and Gravity Falls (great). Both neo-DuckTales and The Owl House def has DNA from GF. ...and I've also watched all of Centaurworld, which is short (18 episodes across two seasons) but good and verrrry weird. Has some big Adventure Time DNA.

I don't disagree and also don't think the torrents are needed for movie downloads anymore—I can see how they once could have been useful—though I can't help but find this statement a little ironic on a site where all the content is highly dependent on emulators and ROMs, even if the former is legal in and of itself and the latter can't be found on the site. But it can't be denied that it's still piracy-adjacent.

I believe that method does not work to do multiple files at once. But I've gotten the regex help I need, so I'll be getting around to this eventually.

Even uncompressed my entire folder of Freenode logs, which includes some things that aren't #tasvideos, is just 313 MBs. I could easily upload it, but first I'd need to sanitize it to remove any messages to Nickserv containing my identify passwords. Edit: Which I'm pretty sure isn't too hard to do with Notepad++ since you can search and replace in multiple files with it, so I just need to know what I need to feed it to find every line that contains the word "nickserv".

I've got logs from as far back as 2010-07-01. With the first four years in one big log file because it was somewhere in 2014 I discovered the option to split log files by month.

Oh, this is definitely better. For me personally I'd like the content area even wider, but that's nothing that a small Stylus script for personal use can't fix and the new one absolutely feels way less space-wastey. Very good and I'm looking forward to the dark mode. In the movie lists, I think the Submission and History buttons should be on the same row, like the Watch and Download buttons already are. Having them on separate rows just makes the box taller for no reason. ...is what I had typed before I found that there's a Discuss button next to the Submission button on the movie pages but not in the list, and I don't see why that button couldn't be there in the movie list too. But I still suggest still putting the History button on the same row. In the forum, I believe it was mentioned before, but the username and the avatar (and the other stuff) should all have the same alignment because that just looks better: I personally think everything centered looks the best, but everything left-aligned works too. The PM and Quote buttons could be made a little clearer what post they're for—right now, I feel it's a bit ambiguous since the break between different posts isn't quite as clear as on the phpBB forum. The time and subject line of posts having the same colour as the background is a big reason for that, I feel. So making that a different colour, and just maybe a bit clearer lines between posts, would go a long way imo. Or just putting those things "inside" the post, on the same horizontal line as the username like it is in the current forum, which would also save some vertical space, at least for short posts. And definitely needs the ability to go to the last page/post directly from the thread list.

Design looks clean, and it loads fast. Finally HTTPS! A couple of things that came to mind for me while looking around... Width of content area. I'm just never a huge fan of sites where the content is in a single fixed width column in the middle with a bunch of wasted blank space on the sides, which is extra jarring when the top bar with the menu does cover the entire width. I tested changing the width of the main container element to 90%, on 1920x1080 resolution, and at least in my personal opinion, it was an improvement (some elements needed additional fixing but I'm not gonna fiddle with that while it's not officially launched yet). Perhaps an option for fixed/fluid site width in the user settings? Lack of dark mode. In my opinion (and this is my opinion on every website) the design should have been dark by default, but there should absolutely be at the very least a toggle for a native dark mode. Movie list tidbits. Just a couple of small things I thought of while scrolling down the NES movie list. The gray background of the site and the gray background of the movie title bars blend together a bit and might do with some more contrast, I'd suggest giving the title bars some actual colour. I also thought that the movie titles that don't have a moon or a star just look a little... bland and that they could maybe do with having just a generic game icon in front of them, but that mostly stopped being an issue when I tried giving the movie title bars a different background colour. Making the actual titles bold would probably also help to make them stand out more. Also, when there's more than one Watch link and they go to different video sites, the Watch buttons are identical, so those could maybe also do with an icon indicating the site. Not gonna lie, I do kinda like the more colourful and compartmentalized current movie list better, but I don't hate the new one. And the current one definitely has some issues of its own.

Sorry, dumb question. Why wasn't the equally bad SNES port used?
The SNES port is, from what I recall, considered the worst version of the game, being glitchier, having several missing elements, and most notably completely lacking the Escher-esque final level. Edit: Oh, I forgot this version was never actually released. So I don't know if anything besides the final level that was missing from the SNES version is actually in this one.

That's just how that stage works. When you drink the potion on that screen, you fall slowly when you then jump off the ledge. The game does not in any way indicate that this potion does that.

Well, I've neglected the OP of this thread, and that's not something that's gonna change—I've done one last edit to it where I alphabetized everything listed there and removed the Status part, and I'm not gonna keep updating it anymore. So unless someone wants to take over and actually keep an active OP, no new shows will be added to it. Maybe it's time to just start going with new threads for new shows you want to talk about. Until then, I'll just keep posting here about new ones I watch. Like one I finished just two days ago, having started it back in October.
Starting in 2018 and concluding in 2020 with a total of 52 episodes across 5 seasons, it's a reboot of the old He-Man spinoff She-Ra: Princess of Power. This one's completely severed any connections storywise with He-Man, and is extremely unapologetically queer, in all the best ways. The representation is completely off the charts, without it feeling in any way forced, or like it's pandering. The vast majority of the principal cast are some shade of queer, and in the whole series, there's very, very few straight-coded characters. I just love that such a cartoon can be a thing these days. Man, that ending. Might be the best application of THE POWER OF LOVE saving the world I've ever seen, and it being between the love between the two main girls was perfect. Adora and Catra really had the vibe from the first episode and it was more a question of "when" than "if" they were going to get together, for a while I theorized that they were already a couple at the start of the show, and a lot of the series does read as a very nasty breakup between the two. While part of me had hoped for their mutual confession to happen earlier, so we could have gotten more episodes of them being adorable (pun intended) together, I can't say they didn't save it for a fantastic moment. Also, Entrapta best character. A very recommended watch.

Oh, huh. Then NTSC actually was the first released version, so that is an argument in favour of that one. I still think PAL counts as the original version here, though. And if the NTSC version is only available for the Mega SG and the physical Mega Drive release, then the PAL version is absolutely the one most widely available and will be the most known.

I feel like some of the issue is that the rule was probably more or less written under the assumption that the NTSC version is always the original version. Which is usually the case - the NTSC version is the original version running at intended speed, while the PAL version is a conversion running at incorrect speed. In this case it's the opposite, the PAL version is the original version running at intended speed, while the NTSC version is a conversion running at incorrect speed. I would say that the rules page itself supports this choice with its three listed aspects for choosing which version to use:
The first dictates that the original (chronologically first to be released) version should be preferred.
As far as I can tell, all versions were released simultaneously. But the operative phrase here should be original version, and as this game was developed for a PAL-only system, it's indisputable that the PAL version is the original.
The second dictates that the more popular (more widely spread and/or recognized among the audience) version should be preferred.
Given that the game is fairly new, the most available version being the digital Switch and PS4 release that came out last month, I don't think there's a concrete answer for this one yet. But retro enthusiasts tend to value accuracy the most, which in this case would support the PAL version.
The third dictates that the superior (such as having expanded content, better graphics or music, more glitches, less lag or shorter loading times) version should be preferred.
The NTSC version runs at incorrect speed and has an incorrect screen size. The PAL version is clearly the superior one here. The idea behind the rule, I'm pretty sure, is that the original and most accurate version is the prefered one. Which, indeed, almost all of the time is the NTSC version. But when the PAL version is the original and also technically superior one of the two, while the NTSC version is a sped up conversion, it shouldn't go against the spirit of the rule at all to choose PAL.

Perhaps submission text isn't the correct place for it. Thus, I instead suggest a message on the front page, along with an announcement on the forum, written and signed by all site staff, in support of the protests and BLM. Thus showing that it's not just one person on the page standing for it, but the whole site!

A (most likely) final batch of stuff was added after the bundle sale closed, bringing the total number of items up to 1741. Lots of stuff to dig through and I'm sure there's many hidden gems in there, so let us know what you've found! If you like NES-style games, I recommend taking a look at A Hole New World. It's got some stuff I don't like, but it's definitely got the style down.
