Interesting! That fixes it but only in that specific instance. Okay, so, question: Is it possible to add to a movie by playing it with read-only off and simply pressing buttons after the final input? Or is it a requirement to load a state in order to trigger things?
Hello :)
I've run into a strange problem and would like help figuring out what's going on. For some reason I am no longer able to edit movies--Bizhawk behaves as though read-only is on, regardless of whether it actually *is* on.
This is a copy of Biz I'm used extensively, I didn't change any setting that I'm aware of. I was making a movie and decided I wanted to manually modify it--I stopped the movie, opened the input log and deleted the input lines I wanted to remove, then played the movie with read only off. A bit later I right clicked and noticed there was no option to "Stop Movie Without Saving", a telltale sign that read-only was set to on. I doubled checked and it was, in fact, off. I toggled it to on, right clicked--same situation. I toggled it back to off, right clicked--same situation.
I stopped and played the movie just to be sure it was in fact no being updated and yep, the movie wasn't being modified. I tried closing and opening Biz--No difference. I tried different games and found that now all of them behave this same way--No movie can be modified regardless of whether read-only is on or off.
I'm currently troubleshooting miscellaneous things and will update if I solve the problem but I figured I'd drop a line while I'm doing so to see if anyone else has any ideas.
Thank ya :)

Edit: I started a new movie and it records just fine. Just the first recording session, though--After it's been stopped once it loses the ability to be modified again like the rest. Strange :o
Hello! I record a lot of movies with Bizhawk and occasionally I run into a weird glitch. Sometimes when I go to play a movie it doesn't start from the beginning, rather it starts from partially into the game. Oddly, rebooting the core also makes the game start from this location. And starting a new recording (from power-on) also starts from this location. Even when I close the emulator and reopen it, the game boots from this point instead of the from the beginning. If I soft or hard reset it starts from the beginning of the game like normal but upon loading the movie, starting a new movie, or rebooting the core, it goes back to the strange starting point.
I notice it is starting at a point where I made a savestate.
Has anyone run into this?
Excellent thinking! I'm not a total stranger to the internals of the bk2 files--I'll give this a go and see if I can pull it off. Also, it's good to know officially that savestates aren't compatible between cores. Thank you very much.
Anyone know if it's possible to playback a movie using a different core than the one it was recorded with? I'm part way through making a movie and I've noticed the audio is having some glitches--This happens with SMW rom hacks from time to time (which is what I'm recording). I tried making a named save state, switching the core, and loading the SS but I get a pop-up error from doing this.
Any ideas?
Is it possible to pick back up on a movie and add more to it? As in, if I'm creating a movie and feel like working on a different one for awhile (or want to close the emulator, etc), how do I pick back up that same movie file later to keep working on it?
I apologize if this is a really obvious thing. I feel like this must be a feature because some games are simply too long to reasonably create a movie for in a single sitting; but I've searched through the program options and done a fair amount of googling and I couldn't grasp how to do this.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated; I've been into a lot of long of long games recently and I'd love to be able to work with them more easily.
