current run looks great so far, I like that you are going low glitch, shows off the game better :D I was waiting for someone to do this, I tried many times myself but I could never get it as optimized as this.

it would be awesome to see sonic and tails collect all rings in the special stages, but this is sadly impossible not only on stage 7 but I believe on stage 4 as well D= what would be neat on stage 7, though, is collecting enough rings to beat the stage by the second checkpoint (there are enough) and then try to not collect anything at all after that, kinda challenging but doable (unless there's a place you can stand and no ring will hit you, I haven't really checked that out)

ah yeah I hadn't realized the current run was so optimized already. so a 100% run wouldn't be faster than the current TAS, I still think it'd be interesting to watch either way.

I do believe time can be saved, there are just enough goal posts to collect all emeralds in EHZ, then you can proceed to play the game as normal with super sonic, having that speed advantage already in the second stage of the game should ultimately make up for the time spent in the first.

I got bored and made this: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/890687676/s2AllEmeralds.gmv 6 emeralds in EHZ, could've gotten all 7 but there was too much backtracking to do since the last 2 checkpoints are too close together it's not optimized at all, just a couple of hours of work.

the gmv actually desynch'd for me at the first loop in SSZ act 2 =/ I don't know if I'm playing it with the wrong options (just using defaults, clear SRAM, etc. with Gens 10a).
Hmm... Sound has to be enabled in Gens or else it will desync there. It seems related to the PCM audio. For now, always keep the sound enabled (use the volume control instead if you want to mute it).
ah, well I didn't have my sound disabled but the PCM option wasn't checked in the menu, turning it on solved it. very nice zipping on DFZ X_X I'm probably not gonna be able to match those times.

Oh, right, here's the gmv. Obviously SSZ3 needs to be redone, at the very least, if 54'56 is possible, but I haven't looked at it yet since then. Also (edit: not anymore, see my post below), I doubt the validity of the video that Aitamen posted above, because Knuckles seems to retain full speed when he starts gliding whereas he's supposed to always slow down (to 1024). Well, I hope I'm proven wrong because it would be pretty cool if Knuckles can really do that.
first zone is very nicely done (I was still using the route from v3, did not see that I could use that red spring right after you get the speed shoes). the gmv actually desynch'd for me at the first loop in SSZ act 2 =/ I don't know if I'm playing it with the wrong options (just using defaults, clear SRAM, etc. with Gens 10a).

I don't know why it seems like the interest in this died down after the last release, which looks like it will make for much better TASes than any of the previous ones. Maybe it's because people like me never post... well here are some S1MMCD times I got a few weeks ago for the most straightforward category, Sonic with no emeralds. Has anyone gotten better (or tried TASing this at all)? SSZ1: 0:23:20 SSZ2: 0:21:65 SSZ3: 0:54:80 DFZ1: 0:23:05 DFZ2: 0:31:35 DFZ3: 0:49:96 COZ1: 0:23:10

just try it, if it saves when run as an admin , then yes, you do need to ;)
well, saving works without running as admin, it's just that every once in a while (some times more often than others) trying to save or load a state can sometimes make the emulator hang, and the sound starts skipping. I'll try running it as admin and see if it happens less often, or not at all. I'll edit this post with results later.

no idea, actually, I've just had a hell of a time with it so far >_> I haven't had this error on XP, as far as I can remember, but I can't blame vista completely, what else could be causing it though?

is anyone else getting random freezing and/or crashing when try to save or load a state in windows vista? it's getting really annoying because I've lost a great amount of progress due to this error. it also sometimes happens when I try to save the game normally (via the game's save feature, I'm playing pokemon emerald) the version I'm using is vba-rerecording-20. I've never experienced this before, and my new laptop is relatively new, so I got to thinking that maybe Vista has something to do with it. Then again upon taking a closer look at the website it says that v20 has some bugs...so maybe it's a problem with the emulator? =/ EDIT: happens on v19.3 too >_> and with several different roms.

woah, chill out, I didn't mean any offense by it, sorry if I came off as rude. when I said changes I was referring more to layout changes, not changes overall (probably should've mentioned that =/), I did mention Dark Fortress, and I noticed a couple of different routes on sunny shores, I don't know if there were any major changes to the other levels, but from a quick play through with sonic I didn't see anything major. If I had know you were gonna respond like I would've kept my mouth shut. =X

is it worth to TAS the latest version? or should we not even bother?
I think such a task should be reserved to someone who was on the Sonic 1 Megamix Team. I feel they would be the only one who can show the true depth and uniqueness of this hack to everyone, while still providing a fast run. Also, they probably have the tools made already. Of course, I don't speak for anyone but myself, and I'd understand if they didn't want to.
well the thing is that only the first and second levels have any real difference, the rest seem untouched from 3.0 (from a viewer perspective, maybe some stuff changed, but it's unnoticeable.

either download the blank SRM in the first post, or delete your srm before watching, the recording will set the right settings at the beginning of the movie. Starry night is done, though I'm not sure I chose the most optimal route for Act 2 (time was 52 something, I didn't bother to check the times with anybody else's run =X), I'll finish up metallic madness and post the recording later tonight or tomorrow
Already beatcha to saying this :P Nice recording so far, I must admit, MUCH better than your previous sonic recording, no offense.
haha yeah no kidding, I saw the vast improvement after watching my old run again. I still see many improvements that can be made to this one as well, but I'm way too lazy to go back and fix it >_<

try this http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1518898506/Sonic%201%20Megamix%20v3%20-%20New%20Run%20%5BSonic%5D.gmv and about the special stages, I don't know anything about splicing, and how to do it without desyncing, you'd have to walk me through that, I'm all for it. have you all been keeping up with the teaser videos that were released? they've added so much T_T I want v4.0 NAO

Okay. Interesting. I grabbed that, and I ended up with the Recording that he takes 31 seconds on.
that's odd, I just tried it and it's the right file O.o

That's all I have so far, the special stages are a LOT better too, especially the 5th one, thanks to billybobfred :D
If you watch my current Mighty WIP, It has the Special Stages highly optimized. I'll compare them side-by-side when I get home, but from what I was watching, my Mighty got to the second Emerald (the alternate route) before your Sonic got to the first in the first special stage. Certainly surprising how you got to the top of the level on Dark Fortress 2 with Sonic. I must admit, I lol'd :)
yeah, I've already spotted several improvements that can be made to the run, but the more progress videos I see for v4.0 the less that I want to work on this one D= anyway, I managed to manipulate the glitch in misty maze 3 giving me a complete time of 16 secs :O Link.
