King's Bounty is a turn-based strategy game. The objective is to recover the Sceptre of Order. Map pieces that reveal the location of the sceptre are gained by defeating villains and finding special artifacts. A normal play session would involve exploring four large continents and battling hundreds of creatures, but in this movie nobody gets killed and everyone is happy. After the game begins (at frame 585) it takes 25 frames to complete it.
Plays at hardest level
Aims for fastest time
Manipulates luck
Ignores semi-important goals in the game
If someone wants to improve it, watch these RAM addresses:
00FFE8A8 (sceptre x-coordinate)
00FFE8AA (sceptre y-coordinate)
{11,5} would be the perfect coordinates, but a) I'm not sure if the sceptre can be under the starting location and b) it may take more time to manipulate that than it takes to walk to the location I got, {11,4}.
adelikat: Accepting this run. The response is good and the run shows amazing luck manipulation. This should be the easiest job an encoder will ever get :p Hell, compressing the .png screenshot will probably take longer than the .avi. Come to think of it, there isn't much to choose from in the screen shot considering only 25 frames of gameplay :p
Bisqwit: Submission file replaced. According to the author, it is now 5 frames faster. It is indeed now only 610 frames long.

Wow, it's a lot!
You certainly like your italics. The reason it didn't for me is that nothing exiting happening other that making 2 steps and doing a search of the area. It would have been cool if the game completely corrupted and randomly gave the end sequence, or if a long automated trigger of events happened afterwards e.g. Monopoly run, or if the character randomly zips very fast to the final boss or the end point collision.

AKA probably found a couple minutes of improvement, and he's waiting to dazzle us with it.
Yeah it might be improvable by ten seconds you never know, maybe there is a code where you can enter four frames and then a bot does the rest of the game for you.
How come all these comments have come weeks after I posted that comment?
I willing to bet that there is a game that can be beaten faster. I'm sure there is some Robin Hood game on the Amiga, where it possible to fire right away and kill the enemy king.

Why has this movie not been published yet?
Enough people found it non-interesting, which causes enough doubt to hold back encoding. Granted, encoding this would take only 5 minutes, but hey, principles.

Well, it's already accepted. But I think the reason is that the publishing of this run will change the direction of this site drastically, so the publishers are afraid to publish it.
(Encoders have no such fears, unless they are also publishers).
If someone (new) saw the title "Aqfaq's Genesis King's Bounty in 00:10", it might lead that person to think that it's an "anything goes" site, which is not true.
If "anything" = "a normally long game luckmanipulated into a very short run", then I think it isn't something really new.
The thing is that not all viewers would catch on (and even if they knew, they wouldn't care). Even if the probability of landing the scepter on (11,5) or (11,4) was 1 in 100 million (which it isn't), it wouldn't change anything.
As evidenced from this thread, the reaction is divided into two groups. But that's what Zurreco is saying as well.
Those who are against that are in the minority, though. Besides, we have no other King's Bounty runs yet, and it this one would be entertaining to those familiar with the game (and for those who aren't, there's always a description text to clarify everything important). That's why it is accepted, IMO.

But the minority you're refering to have a universal point. Its like manipulating a win in Chess in 3 in moves and then saying the chances of the computer acidently letting someone win in 3 moves is 1 in 400 trillion. If it was several insane luck manipulations that beat the game in less than a minute then I might have thought differently. Asides I don't think the game is familar enough to the general audience to understand whats actually happening. See my point.

I have always thought this game to be well-known. Well, its successor "HoMM" is very well known :D so explaining this movie using analogy with grail from HoMM would be no problem ^^

[740] Genesis King's Bounty by Aqfaq in 00:10.17
This AVI also doesn't have sound when played on MPC with the K-lite Codec Pack. So far, I've had this problem with Super Punch Out, Ernest Evans, Mutant Apocalypse, and King's Bounty. none of the other videos have ever given me problems.
Maza, maybe you should try encoding runs differently just to humor those that have this problem =P

Are you sure your codecs are configured properly? For example, changing the mp3lib to libmad in ffdshow audio decoding configuration will result to no audio for me as well. So how about if you check your settings and notify my if the avis still dont work?
Your recent videos won't play sound regardless of what MP3 decoder I set it to.
EDIT: I'm already running the most recent version of K-lite, 2.81 FULL (released 17/12/06)
