Is there even an emulator out there such that a speedrun of this game could be made? It's one of the VERY few games I beat by myself (though in level 2 and 7 i got stuck for a LONG time, not realizing the powder can light lanturns and how to knock down the pilars in level 7) with everything (though it took me a few times through to get everything). I've beaten this game with very little damage taken a bajillion times, but I do the game completely everytime (because I'm obsessive like that), so I'd LOVE a speedrun to be made...both with and without abusing the screen warp glitch. I know the game CAN be finished in like 5 minutes with the glitch, but I can NEVER get it to go more than once screen...I cant warp two screens down or whatever if I'm stuck in a wall or tree and cant even MOVE! The only time I DID get it to work was to enter no-clipping mode (was that was it was called? it involes a LOT of glitched graphics, and you can enter via warping twice down to the BACK of the wicthes hut). Sorry if this is a weird request, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the process for making these movies. I just think they're cool to watch.

Speedruns can be made, but savestates cannot be used in making them. As most of the videos here rely heavily on the infinite-segment nature of rerecording, any run produced for this game would probably not be up to the quality this site tries to maintain (namely, it would need to be faster than the existing record, which would be very hard to do unassisted).
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Dang. Oh well, it was worth a shot! But I'd still love to see it with the screenwarp glitch in action, since that would be a rather quick game run to execute...or is a file of this out there already somewhere? Google can't search for crap, and everytime i search, 90% of them are for online stores and such, many whom don't even CLOSELY match the terms I was looking for!

I saw the video but I don't remember the site. It wasn't all too impressive. I'd like to see the game be beaten swordless. (Is that possible?)

I dont think it's possible to go swordless, but I've never tried it. But since it's a pretty decently long game, even if it IS possible to do it swordless, it'd take a LONG time...the length of the movie would be pretty long, since a LOT of the stuff in the game can't be avoided (you need every dungeon treasure, for instane, though in level 6 the trip to the lv2 bracelet can be cut short by getting it early on via the screenwarp glitch in a certain spot). As Soon As I finish Seasons agin though, I'll look into seeing if it can be done swordless at all...I've playes that game often enough that I know literally EVERYTHING about the gameplay, and i do a pretty much 100% run though each time too.

The Screen Warp Glitch used to beat the game in like under 5 mins is a pain in the butt to get to work all the time. I tried 50 times to do that run using the instructions, and everytime the game froze at some point. And it is not the impressive of a video I would think. It's just "moving" and a final fight...not much action.

Personally, I don't care how long the video actually is. Split it into parts, like some of the other zelda and metroid movies are. That would be so rad to watch. This was an amazing game. -Ev

I forgot about this thread. Sorry I was lazy. I retraced my steps and found the site. Here's the video. http://fleebo.com/sm64/screenwarp.wmv As you can see, it's not too impressive. Somehow completing the game without the sword would be. I'm, unfortunately, not an expert at this game. Is it possible to kill the final guy without the sword?

Not sure...Stage one (the Giant Gel), is killed by poweder. Stage two cna be reflaected with the shovel. I know Stage 5 can be killed a bumber of ways, such as with the hookshot, and stage 6 (Dethel), can be killed the long way with bow and arrows, or the boomerang. It's Shadow Gannon and the Moldorm I'm not sure if the sword is required...i'll check that out.

I don't mean to resurrect this topic since it's last post was in August, but I'm wondering if anybody has any word of whether making a run for this game would be possible or not? This is definitely one of my favorite games of all time and would love to see it played well. I'm a terrible player at most games so unfortunately making a run myself would be pushing my luck. Thanks in advance everybody! :D

You'll know when it's possible, because there will be a huge uproar about rerecording in the GBA emulator. But it seems like it may be pretty close, so maybe we should begin a discussion. First, the screenwarp glitch. Personally I think a version with and without it should be used, because they will be entirely different runs with entirely different sequences. Apparently 5:00 is possible on the system itself using the glitch, so let's completely dominate that. GameFAQs has an extensive list of FAQs, one entirely devoted to glitches. Should manual reset within the game be allowed? It is necessary for one trick, which involves buying an item, and while your rupees are counting down, save. But can it be used for easy mobility around the map? If I remember, it places you back at the last point you entered or exited.

How are the runs going? What is the emulator that can record? Thanks and best of luck to both TSA and Lucid!

TSA was referring to actual speedruns. There is no GB emulator as of yet that can create TASes. And good luck to the two of ya! -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

What are significant differences between the two versions that would be significant for us?

What are significant differences between the two versions that would be significant for us? I think there's an FAQ explaining what was changed on GameFAQs. There are also maps that might help planning a route.

DX has an extra level so far as I can tell. Its a color puzzle level they couldn't have in the B&W regular gameboy version.

And some crazy picture mode. I'm guessing neither of those would be mandatory for completion. But what I mainly wanted to know is, are any glitches/tricks removed?

I think the only thing was that the teleport glitch was removed. Nothing else that would affect the run.

Quick Text Skip via pressing B. DX doesn't have it.

as you may have noticed, there's another masterpiece of TSA available: Link's Awakening. It's very well played in my opinion (back when I was playing this game, I'd never have thought that the arrow-bomb-combination would be so useful). I have one question though: Why does he get the pineapple (and the honey comb for that matter)? This just takes time, IMHO. Any ideas? Philip

Bisqwit can you please combine the Link's Awakening threads? There are now three of them. Exciting though- I'm about to download it.
