How about doing the non-forums parts in flash? SWF files seem to play nicely with PHP or web services for passing data back and forth and so on. We've got a community site here that also uses phpBB as the forums engine (http://www.flashinto.com).
FlashBB also looks promising, and it's built on phpBB so i'm assuming the transition would be relatively painless (and the full version w/ source is a whopping $5)
Just a thought :)
3) LOL, I still remember the hoo-ha after the forum page was changed to the double column layout. But I guess after a while, when people get used to it, it should be alright, just like the forum now :)
Bleh. I still don't like it, to be honest. Then again I'm probably the only person who feels that way.

Actually, I don't like it either, though that's not a big annoyance.
I think the main site design is the real problem.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself.
It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the
kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional
functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success."

No, I'm still fairly against the idea of the double columned forums. I just tend to avoid the whole right side of the main forum layout now, since the only thing of interest is the Workbench, which I usually only access via IRC.
I still think that we should have a dragon theme link next to the 'view this page in hiragana'. It would take you to "Elder Drake Bisqwit's Fire-Breathing Lair of Dragon-Assisted Speedruns", and every link is dictated by the voice from Hexen. Also, "gruefood" would be changed to "food" while "workbench/published" would be "incubating/hatched dragons".

This sounds like a poll-worthy thread.
Which sounds more indicative of a genocentric troupe of expert dragons: "GREETINGS, MORTAL" vs "WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM"

Flash is as dumb as Java. Maybe even dumber...

ugh, please no flash. turns out i won't have much time to work on a design for the main portion of the site this weekend as some work stuff came up, but i will try to get something to look at within the next couple weeks here.
What would Mr Belvedere do? Probably eat some butter.
Hmmm, if it's possible to do this, then why not include an option to revert to single column layout if some of you still heavily oppose it? I guess this has been brought up before, but was just wondering...
But anyway, themes would be cool! In that case we could have like different ranks eg. Dragon slayer or stuff like that too LOL. And posts can be changed with like, I dunno, exp bars?? To take the idea even further, maybe we could have festive themes like halloween and stuff... WOOT!
