I'm no longer sure if 2P would be faster than 1P anyway; 2P mode has more enemies and unlike TMNT2 the turtles don't all have the same special attack; even Don's (the next quickest) is noticeably slower than Raph's.

That being said, maybe you should then aim for a 1 player run. I do not doubt your TASing ability for a second but maybe it is also big pressure to do a 2 player run given the fact that this is just your second project. But then again, people like Shinryuu laughed at pressure when he first joined TASVideos :)

Okay, level 1 is done. Raphael doing his best M. Bison imitation: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2303/TMNT3%20test.fcm A few notes: * throwing takes less net frames (attack, foot explosion and recovery time) than drilling, but sometimes I'll drill them anyway. Sometimes the reason is obvious (2-3 at a time), other times it has to do with the way the screen decenters depending on whether I drill or throw. * there's a part where foots come out of the dirt. The first time, all the foots are invincible until they touch ground, but for some reason one of the foot is vulnerable coming out the second time. * when the jumpkick foot attack you in a pincer formation (two coming out at the same time from either side), it's not possible to kill them both before one of them jumpkicks. Once they jumpkick, you have to wait until they land because they're invincible during the whole jumpkick. Fortunately, this only happens a few times in level 1, and all the times it happens it's unavoidable (I tried!). * As Baxter said, Rocksteady has 64 hit points. Raphael's drill takes off 7 HP, so he requires ten drills to kill; however, you can replace the last drill with a jumpkick and still kill him in the same amount of hits. I can use the jumpkick to manipulate Rocksteady into not doing the shoulder charge, which wastes a lot of time. Level 2 should be fun. This is the main reason I wanted to do a 2P run initially, as I'm pretty sure it's not possible to kill all the flying foot with just one player. I'll try, though. I still have a snickin' sispitchin that 2P won't be faster overall anyway because of the extra enemies.

Looking good. I am wondering though if you could have positioned your turtle better after beating rocksteady.

I thought about that; unfortunately, TMNT3 forces your turtle to go slower if he's closer to the cutscene point. He'll always do whatever it is he does at the end of the level at the same time after beating the boss. If he's at the edge of the pier, he'll just walk in place for about three seconds. Seems like Konami went out of their way to extract all possible B.S. from this game. :(

haha it was cool that Raphael can knock away the stars (what do you call them?) when he is "drilling". Boss fight looked sharp. How many levels are there?

Just for fun, I made a short version of Mich beating the boss (it's likely not perfect). You could consider (might be a stupid idea) getting killed right before the boss, change to Mich, and change back during the autoscrolling part (I think this is slower though).

Looks sharp. I was thinking about switching to Mike during some of the final boss fights, but my gut tells me it would only be worth it on the last bosses.

I agree... I don't even think you need to test it for this boss. At the last bosses, it does seem worth it though (like you said).

Now I can see why Raph is getting used here: faster super attack. But Mike does hit lost harded, and sometimes two or three times per attack. Bosses would be toasted quicker, but would it be worth it anywhere else?

I'm having a dilemma with the second stage. After the first two waves of enemies, foot begin jumping out from under the water. At first, I wanted to play 2P mode so I could have a shot at eliminating all the foot that come out. But after some testing, I don't even think it's possible in 2P mode. Let me explain. Raph has the best shot at killing two with his special; it's rather easy because of how quickly the drill moves forward. However, none of the turtles have quick ways of moving vertically. You can keep pace with the foots if you don't attack; however, the basic attacks have issues: *Regular attacks only hit for ONE frame, and have loads of startup and recovery. *Jumpkicks only seem to connect if you're one full sprite size higher in the air than the foot, otherwise you'll get hit. *Throws take too long Raphael can't get more than three; I'm thinking it's not possible for the other turtles to get more than two. On the other hand, dodging the foot looks genuinely unimpressive, since the turtles move very slowly anyway. What should I do?

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2319/TMNT3%20test.fcm Some notes: *There's a part where I seem to lag before killing foot. The lag is because if I drill earlier, I won't hit both of them. *Given the choice between killing some of the foot that jump out of the water and staying out of the way, I chose to kill the foot that I can. *Since it's pretty easy to just drill through the minefield, I instead just hang to the right of the screen and use the drill invincibility frames that don't have attack potential to go through the mines that are in my way. *It's not possible to kill the trio of foot that jump out of the doors with one drill. *The boss of this stage has a rather annoying script that begins after you hit him once. Once he is done charging, he cannot be damaged until he swings the pipe once. Comments?

Finished level 3, will probably post a level 3-4 WIP tomorrow. And there's eight levels to whoever asked :D

It's looking pretty good. It's probably very hard to avoid lag with the foots-jumping-from-the-water part. Cool that you are making fast progress :)

to level 4 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2351/TMNT3%20test.fcm Notes: *Try as I might, I couldn't get Slash to not jump at the start of the match, but it's pretty straightforward from there. Slash isn't even good enough to be a mid-boss ^_^ *The rock soldiers are tough to manipulate, and since they can't be thrown I sometimes have to take time to let a few come on screen so I can drill them. *I land a jumpkick on Bebop. Anyone who's fought this guy knows how hard this is to do. I needed an attack that wouldn't push me far back, so I kept trying until I got it. *The foots in manholes were a pain in the butt because it was difficult to get to them quick enough to do something consistently. So, they die in a variety of ways. *I wait to kill the foot twins with the electric guns to avoid having to backtrack too much. *You can hit the barrels in stage 4, but that only increases the lag since they'll stay on the screen longer, so I whiff-drill through them. *The miner boss is another annoying prat. Basically, I have to manipulate him away from the corners because once he's there, I can't drill him (he'll use his pick and I can't do anything to avoid it other than drill away). So I have to use a lot of jumpkicks to keep myself around him. *JXQ-inspired DDR (turn on the input view to see).

A good run so far. I really like how you synch your input with the music and sound. It's a little fun thing to watch in between stages. More runs need to do that!

Stage five and six are done. We're in the home stretch now! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2377/TMNT3%20test.fcm Notes: * The vertical-scrolling sewers were difficult to do quickly; in particular, the sliding foot are a royal pain in the neck. * Drilling against the wall in the sewer will delay you for awhile since unlike other stages' walls, Raphael will spin against the brick until he's done. * Raph's on a diet. No pizza for him. * Leatherhead (the alligator) was a fairly annoying boss. I discovered that you can hit him in the first frame of his invinci-spin; however, that doesn't help when he does it during his already invincible frames after getting hit. The end of the match seems a little sluggish for this reason. * Hitting the eye spider package will only slow you down. * After how annoying those robo-flies always were to me in regular play, it's very satisfying to take them all out in one attack. * The electric conveyor belt part looks more impressive than it is. The hit box for the electric beams are way bigger than they appear, but it's pretty ambiguous where Raphael is at any given time, so I look like I'm dodging like a champ when it's really pretty simple. * Rahzar is also really annoying because there's no way to keep him from doing his ice breath from time to time. I wish I could figure out a way to manipulate him into doing that running slash thing, because it's way easier to hit him when he does that. * Shredder is super duper easy. The only "hit guard" attack he has is his dive kick, and that's actually good for me since I get two free hits without changing his position. And he does it a lot to boot.

Amazing, great job :) Nice idea to switch to Mike at the end to. I hope this gets on the main site soon.
