The new forum layout makes it easy to see all the major sub-forums/boards. The "View unanswered posts" is nice too. I don't know if this is a new option or not. I never pay attention to their other side of the corner before. Nice work Bisqwit!

I dont like it either. If people cannot scroll down just a few inch down to view the lower threads then by God ban them! I cannot even view the new layout due to my resolution (1024x768) and I cannot change it because it would mess up my icons.

I really like the "mark all forums read" button. I never noticed this before - is it new?

No, that's been there for a bit. It's just hardly noticable on many forums I've seen... EDIT: As to the layout, I agree with Zurreco, it just doesn't work well in my opinion.

I don't like it either. I don't see any reason for having changed it. As far as I knew, no one had a problem with the old set up. The new set up isn't fluid: instead, it throws way too much information on the screen at once, especially at non-large resolutions.

I think that that is way too cluttered, especially compared to what it was.

the layout looks like the forum is a roll of toilet paper and someone took a shit and wiped slowly

It looks like it would look nice, but I, using firefox, only get one column.

I don't see what the big problem is. Is it blowing your mind to see most everything at once? I find either layout to be good enough.

It's not mind blowing, but I do find it intrusive. I would rather take the time to scroll down a little bit and have everything spread out instead of attempting to match up SNES games and SNES emulator forums. I still don't see why it was decided that all of the forums were crammed on to such a small area.

Probably just testing and gauging people's reactions as to what they find is the best solution or a compromised solution, at the least.

eek! that's going to need some getting used to. I won't post my opinion until I have one, in a few days.

which doesn't even work out, as it's just two columns and not a proper table (although I realize that a proper table is a little heavier on the server load).

On higher resolutions, it's fine, but on 800x600, it looks like a mess. And I can't afford to change the resolution.

It's a default feature on every php board.

Various resolutions (browser window is full-screen): 800x600 http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1023/newtasforumindex800ie2.jpg 1024x768 http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5824/newtasforumindex1024yv7.jpg 1152x864 http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1375/newtasforumindex1152yk6.jpg The idea was reasonably organized(Topic for Games across from Topic for Emulator), but on smaller resolutions it's a bit too cramped. Wait a few years when no one uses less than 1280x1024, then try it again (I currently use 1024x768). Just a thought: Put Off topic, Sites, Workbench, Published Movies, and Gruefood all under General (the category, not the topic). Might as well try it since the current design is considered unattractive anyway. It will throw off the balance of the page, though... And why are Gruefood and Workbench under Finished Movies?

Because they are finished runs of their respective games, they just aren't published for whatever reason.

Gruefood is under Finished Movies because a judge completed the necessary input to do a Finishing Move.

Is it possible to alter the layout based on either the window size or an option in the user's profile? I like the way it looks, but I wouldn't if my screen were any smaller.

Hmm... I really liked the "old" layout better. However, I think I might be able to get used to the new one, given a few months... If this was a "New forum layout - yay or nay" topic, I'd vote nay.

I vote yay for the new layout (if this were a yay or nay topic).
