I added a new feature to the database: each movie can now be labeled with an arbitrary branch name / nickname. This should help when reading the movie changelogs (http://tasvideos.org/NewMovies.html, front page movie list) and for the publishers when they try to decide which movie is going to be obsoleted by the new publication. I assigned the branch names for about 50 movies ― those which have multiple versions in the database and need to be differentiated. The names I assigned were: ― Battletoads: 1p warpless, 1p warps, 2p warpless, 2p warps ― Castlevania 3: alucard version, grant version, sypha version ― Aria of Sorrow: julius version ― Circle of the Moon: warp glitch ― Chrono Trigger: newgame+ ― Contra: pacifist ― Metroid: 1-item, 100%, no minibosses ― Rygar: death-warp, no death, no glitch ― Simon's Quest: no glitch ― Solomon's Key: best ending ― SMB2: no-warps, luigi version, princess-only ― SMB3: no flutes ― SMB1: no-warps, sidestroller ― SMW: 96-exit ― Super Metroid: all items, minimalist ― Umihara Kawase: sightseeing ― Wizards&Warriors: reuse levels ― Zelda2: glitchy warps ― Zelda: 2nd quest More names can be assigned by editors. The name should be concise and descriptive. I only assigned names for movies that are off from the primary goal. ― I didn't assign a name for Mario-version SMB2j, because it's the primary movie; Luigi is an extra so I labeled it so. ― I didn't assign a name for the 2-minute Umihara Kawase, because it's the primary movie; the sightseeing movie is an extra. etc. ― I did label movies that had different goals than their predecessors (or successors in the case of Simon's Quest), or movies that have no clear "primary movie" such as Battletoads and Rygar. (Yes, I realize that "what is the primary movie" is a highly debatable matter. I followed my own thought on that.) Please follow this convention.

Added a few more. DKC - 101% Gimmick! - best ending Gradius 3 - 100% kills M.C. Kids - all levels SSF2 - Zangief version, Ken version Super Demo World - 120-exit Zelda ALttP - glitchy warps Zelda LA - glitchy warps The only ones I didn't know what to put for were the (3) Track & Field movies because I don't know how they're different - it wasn't obvious in the description and I don't feel like watching any of them to find out.

Here's a tool to help in finding situations where branch names could apply. It can also be used to resolve misspellings / inconsistencies between game names, game versions and branch names spelled differently in different releases. Is it normal that some movies are labeled (JPN) while others are (Japan)? Shouldn't the notation be consistent? Also another notation inconsistency is that there's (USA PRG1), (USA,PRG0) and (PRG0). Also sometimes a "/" is used to separate multiple countries, sometimes ",". Aren't (NTSC) and (USA) actually the same thing? Shouldn't the latter be used? Then there's at least one odd (USA v1.1, USA) and a (any%) which should probably be in the branch name and not this. (OTOH, I have no idea how those markings are generated, ie. if they are written by hand or automatically extracted from the rom. In the latter case I suppose you can scrap all the above.) Btw, what's (FDS)?

For some reason, mazzeneko isn't showing up on that page. The first two entries for "SNES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV" have no author shown there.

Whoever created the player entry for him ( http://tasvideos.org/Players-56up.html ), did not fill the short name field. That is the reason.

For Rygar, I changed the types ... no death -> no warp death-warp -> warp ... because the "death warp" in the newer versions does not include death. The warping versions are also "no death". Now I see that all the older versions are listed under the old tags, and ListAllMovies have five types. Should I change all the older versions to the same scheme? Is this functionality intentional?

Yes, it is intentional. Old versions should also be changed where applicable*. *)Sometimes, the branch changes in a new movie.

Okie dokie. Merged Rygar, Chip&Dale, and Super Metroid. Super Mario 2 is still a mess. Should I merge everything into USA PRG0? Some submissions, which only have USA now, specify PRG0 in the ROM name field. But I suspect that most don't.

I will revert some of your Rygar changes, because there were some Rygar movies in the past that had different goals. The first Rygar movie of Warp was intended as a no-glitch movie, not as a no-warp movie. That's why I said "where applicable". Also, I changed "no warp" to "warpless" to be consistent with the branch name used already in many other movies.

I changed my SMB3 from "no flutes" to "warpless" for this same consistency.

When the first warp movie was submitted (which was after three versions) it was published separately, essentially creating the "warpless" category. If you want it to be consistent, either label all three first versions as "no glitch" (glitchless?), or "warpless". As I see it there is no noticeable difference in goals between the first version and the next two. And not really to the other warpless movies either. EDIT: To JXQ, I changed the Tokushin movie from "no flutes" to "warpless" also.

You are right. I think only the last of his was a "no glitch" one; the previous ones were just as fast as possible. Perhaps, they should not be labeled explicitly anything because back then, there were no categories for them. For game versions, NTSC generally means "USA or Japan", so either USA or Japan would be better, as it's more specific than NTSC, unless the game in question is actually a combined "(JU)" type ROM.

I just noticed this, in the NES movies page: NES "4 Player" Nightmare On Elm Street (USA) in 16:15.75 by Gonzalo Espinosa (aka. chupapi). NES A Nightmare On Elm Street (USA) in 14:32.88 by Johan Södling (aka. Randil). I think the editors ought to rectify this so the movies would be grouped together, cos at the moment, 1 movie is displayed at the top of the page while the other is somewhere in the middle.
