Haven't heard from you in quite a while, samurai goroh. Are you still working on FFV? I hope you don't quit because you are already so far. Good luck to you!
Which run should I encode next? :)

I hadn't posted because not many people are interested, but I've been busy lately & haven't advanced much. I'm still after Archeoavis. I was going to continue, but forgot if Galuf keeps his Job or if he stays as bare... (I could just watch my patch run, but haven't had time :P) In the past weeks I had a Chess tourney & the team won, & now I'm in the middle of some exams. So, if everything turns right, I can progress next week. (Though I now only have free time Saturday nights & Sundays, as opposed to before when I was on vacations :( )

This is my most anticipated TAS along with FF IV (and FF VII, but we'll have flying cars before we can publish Playstation TASes). Can't wait to see some progress on this run.

hehe, thanks guys :) I already checked that Galuf's job will be kept, so I can procede now (just need to finish the exams, though)... I'll post the run when I get to the warp of the 2nd world...

Cool, I'm fairly interested in this run as it could be a walkthrough (kind of) for me since I haven't ran through this game since my brother and I played it 2P, that was over 5 years ago, maybe longer. Looking forward to anything and everything you put out regarding this Final Fantasy.

I forgot, should I learn Exploder when fighting the Puroboros & then fight Apocalypse for the fun factor or save some time skipping them both? (I think it was around +60 secs...) I can (& will) take the Exdeath vs Galuf fight with the bonemail equipped, as on my patched run, so I can complete skip this magic...

Which Galuf vs. Exdeath fight is faster? With Bonemail or with Exploder? Otherwise the choice is pretty hard, since +60sec is quite much in a TAS but fighting Apocalypse would be a major fun bonus.

Bonemail + Fenix Down is faster due to its animation, the explotion takes a little less than an extra second... I was wondering if people would still enjoy the Apocalypse fight, since it's in japanese. Well, at least I think they would go like WFT o_O

So fighting apocalypse would take an extra 4000 frames? In that case, just skip it; you can do it in a separate movie if you want. (and I would be interested.)

Actually it takes less, but I also included the time required learning exploder from the Puroboros & the time healing after Apocalypse battle...

Mmm, learning exploder is on world 1 while Apocalypse fight is on world 3, so unless there's a place on world 3 to learn it (& don't lose time), it couldn't be done w/o re-doing it all over. (Since luck is time based & couldn't be HEX edited...)

I'm not sure what's going on. Just do whatever's fastest is my opinion. If you don't fight apocalypse in the run, you can just hack exploder in and go from there (or i could do it for you if you need).

I'm starting to wonder if instead of running FF5 SNES, that once the English translation of FF5 Advance comes out, that it gets used for the final run instead? After dabbling in the Japanese version for a couple hours, I wouldn't doubt if all the tricks that work in FF5 SNES still work in FF5 Advance, and with the added bonuses of there being a run button (and with someone in the party being a Thief, you run 4x as fast), and the game itself being understandable to most of the site's audience, it might make a better run than FF5 SNES.

Well, if the bonus can make the run faster, I think it would be right to switch. However, I would rather finish my run & if I can do the GBA one too, just do it with better luck manipulation or so... BTW, when was the japanese version coming out? Or is it already on sale? I remember that the US version was going to be released on mid Noverber, right?

Mmmm, you're right Boco. For what I've played so far from the GBA version, I can say there can be a time improvement from dashing w/o the thief's ability. I just hated how the main characters portraits looks like, except for maybe Cara & Boco... Also noticed that since the screen is small, the jobs tier has been splitted & you have to scroll down to choose one from below, plus you can't press left & jump from the first one to the last one (though it doesn't matter that much)... Dunno about luck manipulation yet, but finding some CB codes was easy :P BTW, here are some snaps I've taken: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v205/SamuraiGoroh/Final%20Fantasy%20V/GBA%20version/ Edited: Oh I also forgot to mention that the sound is better here & the screen is lighter...

Sorry, I've been playing the GBA version lately, so I haven't progressed the run :P. Luckily I realized that I can use GP Toss on the Puroboros fight & save some time, now I just have to check if I can change jobs to gain some ABP points for a job & spend less time on world 2 leveling up... (I think it's worthy, but maybe I'm wrong...) BTW, it seems that none of the useful glitches works anymore for the GBA version, so there's no Steal glitch nor Mix glitch. If someone plans to do a run for this version, then a new strat should be needed, as you can't buy as much as you want now. (It may probably have to be like in the SDA run...)

Tilus, the FF4-FF6 remakes are rewrites. The games are completely recoded in C (or C++). The only original code is the scenario data. This differs a lot from Capcom's ports. Their GBA ports of Super Mario World, Rockman 9, Breath of Fire 2, etc. were done with 65816->THUMB static translation, so many of the old bugs still work. Melissa

SMW - not ported by Capcom, and in fact recoded so old bugs are fixed. Rockman 9 - there is no such game.

Okay, I guess I'm assuming things with Super Mario World. Zelda 3 *was* ported by Capcom. I meant Rockman and Forte. Melissa

Yes. Capcom handles all 2d Zelda titles and has since Zelda DX.
