Super Mario Allstars / Super Mario Bros. in 5:20 (Normal Quest)

Emulator:

  • Snes9X v1.43+ v9 for Windows
    • Use WIP1 Timing
    • Allow Left+Right / Up+Down
    • Volume Envelope Hight Reading

Explanation:

  • Use Warps
  • Abuse Programming Errors in the Game
    • Walljump
    • Jump into a solid object
  • Take no Dammage
  • Collect one Mushroom
  • Collect one Fire Flower

Truncated: This is basically identical to Super Mario Bros. 1 for the NES, except that some tricks do not work (like erroneous warp-pointers). I see no need for such a movie, and I think the original game should be the obvious choice when TASing a game.
The votes seem to agree that this movie does not add anyhing meaningful to the site. Therefore this submission is rejected.
I would like to comment that it looks well played for the most part (one bonus room had me wondering though), so I encourage you to try your luck with some other game. You can get ideas from the forums or IRC.

I havn't watched it, but I'm inclined to vote no on grounds of a similar situation. It's 4 seconds faster, but do we really need a copy of the same game?

I can't watch this Movie. The Movie Starts, and just bevore World 1-1 is showing up, the Emulator makes an Error, and then I can send a rapport to Microsoft. So I can't watch it, to see waht you meen. Is there an .avi anywehre ?

Not watching, so not voting. I feel it's not necessary to do. The only time loss would come from the time it takes to boot in to the game, minor engine changes and fade in/fade out lag being different. It's not necessary.

Forget the movie, just read the rejection note.

Wow, so you did something slower? Do you know the purpose of the site?

For the most part, this is played well. It could be done faster by not getting the power-ups, but we know this because this game was already done on NES. There are a couple minor differences, some faster on this game, some faster on the other game. Overall I vote no because it's too similar to the existing run. But you seem to have some potential in your TAS skills so I hope you give something else a shot! You may want to post ideas in the appropriate forum topic before starting to see what people would think of a particular game.

I haven't yet seen the movie, but I'm going to vote meh because I don't think any remake deserves a TAS, unless there is some TAS-changing difference in the game (such as an old glitch being taken out or a new glitch being put in). And apart from the minus world being taken out I am not aware of any such things in All-Stars.

in World 8-4, the if you areen't fire Mario, you must allways stop, or moving slower to enter the pipes with piranha-plants (or how they are named on english)

Bah, I'm sorry my comment was rude. I'm sure you'd lose more time grabbing the powerups than not.

I wonder what would happen if someone ran SMAS+W, all five games?

It's two powerups vs three piranha plants so I think S@G has it right.

Yes, but which game would the straw that breaks the camel's back, so to speak? Also, chiming in that remakes, so long as they aren't very different, don't deserve their own runs. Haven't watched the movie, not going to vote, but that's my input.

I don't get it. How come the other Super Mario All-Stars movie played with Super Mario Bros. 2 got accepted but this one is being practically rejected?
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

The only All Stars movie accepted is warpless SMB2j. There has not been a warpless SMB2j so far (that plays all the secret stages).

Well I have no problem using an updated version on a different console. I do have a couple of questions about it though. 1. Did you ever test to see how quickly the game could be completed without the mushroom flower powerups? 2. Why the hell do you get fireworks in two consequtive stages? its easy to discretley avoid them. I also generally find the movements througout the game quite jerky despite the fact its a nicer looking game compared to the NES. All in all I'd rather see a warpless TAS done on this since there were glitches that weren't exploitable. I also disagree with what Kles said earlier. just because a run is done on a more up to date console doesn't render it pointless and is therefore slower because of removal of bugs doesn't render it pointless. Its a hard call so I'll vote meh
