I loved the Enguarde dismount... it totally made my day, at the end of Lockjaw's Locker I'm like no way was that faster and almost a second saved Yes the climbing does look faster, and it saves 1 frame per jump which accumulates very quickly Possibly Kreepy Krow today, or tomorrow, first thing to test frames and then on to the battle!

I'd say that's good, seeing as you have a nice critical eye :P didn't get any TASing in today, maybe tomorrow. Most definetly over the weekend though.

pirate panic seemed slower for me but probably is just impression I wanted to make a split video with half V1 and half V8 to compare. It would be funny Keep it up

Pirate Panic is faster by 21 frames, differences are I roll up those stairs which initially makes me go slower but I hit the neek which speeds me up, when getting Rambi I try to charge more instantly and land closer to bonus#2, in bonus #2 I worked harder to hit every monster faster, resulting in barely hitting every monster in the front and using Rambi's big collision detector to hit the coin earlier. And in the end tried to jump at the first possible frame in order to set up the rambi dismount. I'd like to know how to make split videos, the differences between them are huge. I'll get some serious TASing in over the weekend

I got absolutely NO idea in how to do it. FractalFusion or Dehacked (don't remember wich one) knows how to do it. Bisqwit and nitsuja should know it too.

Well then I will just download both movies, open two Snes98 windows and play them. Should be much easier. Edit: I just did it and recognized that you used the "fast Enguarde dismount" in your 1st version. Why didn't you use it in your later versions (except the last one)?

I'm not sure if emulators can run at the same time together... I know the MegaMan X and megaMan X2 was done like that. I think the emulators go idle if another window is selected, but I'll have to try it out. seeing as v7 had a 35 second improvement over V4, V1 is going to look like a complete joke. I think from now on, once in V8 as I get past Crocodile cauldron I'm going to replay each level two or three times, to see if I can improve frames because every time I play a level again I seem to do better. at the end of the weekend I'll post as much progress as I had gotten at that point. V1 had a faster enguarde dismount? I didn't remember doing it (it was so long ago. and I didn't use frame advance back then.) I deleted it, I'll have to download it and see, but I'm sure V8 is as sweet as the dismount is going to get. I just finished watching it for old time's sake, boy was it awful. Even though in V8 I visit 3 out of 4 kongs, I'm still 27.6667 seconds faster. and plus the general gameplay looked awful, I almost exclusively used 12% speed then and now I exclusively use frame advance and there's a huge difference. It was almost embarrassing watching myself months ago (was it 2 or 3 months now?) About the dismount in V1, it was faster than V7 and it's predecessors, after V1 I thought I'd take Enguarde as far charging as possible and swim up and backwards to try and hit the warp barrel. The dismount in V1 was actually just toying around to try and get V2-6 right. V8 beats all of them though.

I can make a video of v1 and v8 side by side. Should I do it with each one starting at the same time once and that's it, or should I sync the beginning of each level so that you can see how much faster each individual level is?

sync the beginning of each level, that'd be easier for comparing I think because I already know that it's 27 seconds faster can you also make a AVI of V7? I'd like to see how it'd look as an AVI movie, and use it to strategically evaluate crocodile cauldron and krem quay I'd say that, in the end a double video of V8 vs. V1 would only serve the purpose of showing how much I'm improving, but it'd be fun to see I think Also V8 visits 3 kongs, they don't factor in the level differences

I have 8 and 7, but for the sake of ease, could you link all the versions or at least v1 on in your next post since this thread is kind of messy?

DCK2 102% V1 7m 48s I just watched with both emulators going, it was pretty hard to sync it to see each level started at the same time, but yeah V8 was way faster.

It took me a while to figure out you used 1.1 for v1, and not 1.0 like you have been since I started following your progress. Anyway, Here are some numbers (I hope I didn't fuck up the calculations): before level 1: V1 is 1 frame faster (!) before level 2: V8 is 230 frames faster before level 3: V8 is 963 frames faster before level 4: V8 is 989 frames faster (it gained 26 frames total even though you stopped by kong kollege, though VI did arrive quicker in the overworld, it did not enter the level immediately) before level 5: V8 is 1392 frames faster after level 5: I don't know I don't feel like finding the frames. Video is encoding, should be done shortly.

Jeez. I don't know if it's the rain in level 5, or the paralax (or whatever it's called) scrolling water in levels 1 and 3, but whatever it is, it made the bitrate need to be a lot higher than the mega man x + x2 dual encode. Oh well. My idea of "good" quality doesn't happen until around 80MB, but I got "acceptable" at 35MB, so here's that: http://tas.monotoli.org/mov/dkc2/ (Also I'm amazed the sound stayed in sync all throughout. I kinda winged this since I'd never done anything like it before. I think I managed to get the audio into the correct channels without messing up too much)

Nice video BKDJ! ComicalFlop, you've improved so much. Honestly, I remember watching V1 and saying, this n00b can't TAS DKC2, even though he loves the game, leave it to Sami and Arne. Boy, was I wrong. I'm looking forward to further WIPs for this run. Continue the great work!

Very good improvements by Comical, wow. Also, thanks for making me realize my headphones were on backwards.

how do I view .mkv files? Also, does choosing stereo sound (like JXQ and many others suggested) really improve the sound in the movie significantly?

thnx I also noted that the climbing can be a little bit faster if I hold B for two frames instead of one like I do... I'll just redo the last bonus of Topsail trouble and start the Kreepy krow fight, and continue the run with better jumping, no sense going all the way back to Mainbrace Mayhem to redo 3 levels just to improve one level (if only hex-editing made sense to me sigh. I know the concept, but not how to do it). Well, I might redo, but I wouldn't call it another restart because it's only changing one small tactic, unlike the huge improvements that I always do when I restart. I redid bonus #1 in Mainbrace Mayhem and only gained 1 frame. So no restarting. I will use pressing B for one more frame for the rest of the movie however. But I won't redo for this little thing, the only real way it will help is maybe save 10-15 frames bewteeen bonus #1 and #2 and maybe in bonus #3, but I will leave this alone because it is fine as it is. Once Krem Quay comes (and thus more ropes, there aren't many (any?) ropes in crocodile cauldron.

Didn't get any TASing in yesterday, I started testing frames today for Kreepy Krow, first possible frame to enter is 23203, I'm on frame 23223 and still no perfect frame. I might redo some levels to see if I can enter Kreepy Krow on an earlier frame. Or, is there a funky Kong along the way in later worlds? Edit: Funky Kong is in fact on the way in Gloomy Gulch, in the middle of the path of Parrot Chute Panic and Web Woods. I'll edit out Funky Kong enter Kreepy Krow on an earlier frame, hopefully it save frames in the long run. First possible frame to enter, without reaching funky kong, is 23010, and that's a 1,1,1,1 egg drop. Egg #3 is not the best possible placement for the egg, but I might hit the egg from the top on #3 because #4 has better placement. I'll test it again and see if any other frames give better egg placements.

World 1 done now only 184 frames slower than Arne's (66 due to switch to Dixie), much better now I think team throwing up to the nest is not a good idea, so I'll test that and see fi that is where the 184 frame difference is. Not throwing up to the nest saved 39 frames, so now it's 145 frames slower, or 79 frames. I really don't know where that last second comes from. Nonetheless, for the finished run world 1 is done. spockybiemmichab, be sure to remind me of Cranky Kong in Krazy Kremland AND Funky Kong in Gloomy Gulch.
