Probably the only rpg that can be done with a speed run. This should be interesting, I'd like to see it done under 3 hours. Maybe less. (whoevers the mario jump master, please stand up)

Guests can post, that's news to me? Anyway, the current legitimate record for this game is about 5 and a half hours. With some savestate abuse, one could possibly get perpetual missees, and perfect timed attacks the entire game. Would look pretty interesting.

Most RPGs require reaching a number of goals, which usually can't be skipped or done significantly out-of-order -- thus there's a cap on how fast they can be completed.. However, some games have enough flexibility in the storyline to allow for at least some sequence breaking, which can result in a faster game. DW1, obviously, only has a few requirements, most of which can be accomplished at any point in the game. There must be other RPGs out there with few "requirements" other than levelling up.. Plotting the games out, a la Zelda 1, would probably help reveal which games could be fast and which would not.

Grahhh. Brain Lord. BRAIN LORD~! I dunno about you guys, but I sucked ass in that game. Best I think I ever did was beating the first dungeon. >< Much like Majora's Mask, I'd love seeing the ending to Brain Lord.

actually, i think Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest can be beaten in a short time too. My older brother beat it....without a TV. (stereo only). So it should be possible, and quick considering its a short game anyways. Much quicker than Mario at any rate.

Hey guys, just wanted to get the ball rolling a little bit here with some random points. - Super/Ultra Jump abuse will probably own this game. Is there any kind of limit on it, or can you keep going infinitely? - Geno Whirl = free win vs. Exor. - I imagine much of the money will have to come from treasure boxes, as you wouldn't be fighting a whole lot. - Take a look at the low-level FAQ at Gamefaqs, some of the stuff in there seems useful for a timeattack. I'm no expert on this game, just interested in seeing this one. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

yes, any fight can be ended in one turn thanks to mario. his super/ultra jumps have no limit (unless the limit is 99, which is still ridiculous as in), and any other creature can be killed by a 9999 damage shot from geno. this would be a fun game for the simple fact that dodging the enemies would take lots of skill and mapping at some points. some fights (power ranger wannabees) will be very hard, but you should be able to manage.

Super Jump has a limit of 100, IIRC Ultra Jump has a much lower limit but I forgot what it was, otherwise it's also 100. There are also some points where you can level up like crazy w/o battling, specifically the part where the guy sells you a star and there are a bunch of lizards (forgot what they were called) lying around. Also about the Super Jump, if you do connect all 100 jumps, there are 2 items you can get. If you give both of them to Mario (you have to give him one of them anyway) he gets a HUGE stat bonus.

There is a point in the game where you can skip foward very far. Though I'm pretty sure the game designers had this in mind because not only does a monster warn you, but if you fight him, you WILL get your ass handed to you. Anyway, it's completely useless, there's a platform or something that Mario can't reach to continue.

There's a point in Kero Sewers where you can jump on top of a treasure box and go into a Warp Pipe which takes you to somewhere in... Land's End I think.

From what I understood, that was sort of a backwards secret area - i.e. once you get to Land's End, you go into that smoky cave and follow it back to a previously inaccessible area of Kero Sewers.

Also, if you time it right you can always get a freebie on an item and use the same items over and over

Awesome! I actually played this game on my SNES console just two months back. Even then I began thinking of a speed walk but it never went so far since I had alot to do at that time. Still has alot to do but I would really LOVE to see that speedrun. I thought that super jump thingie was maxed at 120 or something. I got a slight but unsure memory about that, so I don't really know. 120 is just something that I got related to that super jump.

Super/Ultra jumps have a hardcoded maximum of 100 hits. If you manage to get this, the guy in Monstro Town will actually tell you this just before he gives you the Super Suit.

Yeah. I know about the supersuit, just wasen't sure about the numbers. Oh well. I don't really care. I know it's a bitch to time those jumps if you play it on the hardware, I have only managed to get the first 30 or what ever it is. :) Anyways.. Good luck in making the speed run. I can't wait to see it. Oh, and just a hint to have in mind if fighting undeads. There are those special items one can use to vaporise those ghosts into nothingness. That can save some time instead of fighting regular style. Otherwise if there are unnecessary fights you could just run away from em' to save time, but that woulden't look that stylish. :)

I guess most of this game would look amazing, while the fights would probably be pretty tedious, watching mario jump repeatedly(save for the ones with geno whirl). But it should be done nonetheless I think, the mini games would look great.

I would love to see someone do a speedrun on this game. It's a classic!

I love that game too. A speed run would be great, even if it's suboptimal.

I'd download it in a second... if it wouldn't take 3 or so years for my crappy connection...

There's no way I'm downloading that (it's like, 800mb, jeebus). Hopefully this paves the way for someone to do the the Snes9x movie for this site.

Actually it's only around 550 MB. I used FlashGet and it downloaded from there in no time at all. Haven't seen too much yet, will comment later. -Josh

Just downloaded it and watched some. That movie is not even near perfection. So I think someone should try to make a better run really!
