How do you do the ladder trick Morimoto does in MM2 with Item-3? If you're talking about the trick where he quickly zooms to the right, that's done by holding up+down on the controller. To pull this off though, you would need to use a keyboard or mess with your controller pad. You don't need item-3 to do it. Just hold both the up and down directions and once Mega Man reaches the top of the ladder, he will go flying to the right. You can also go through walls with this trick.
This is not true. The trick has nothing to do with pressing up+down or left+right at the same. To do the trick, you have to press UP (or possibly DOWN would work too) to grab the ladder when you are above the level you would normally be able to start standing at. The game will place you high above the ladder, and if a ceiling happens to be there and you're facing left, you'll zoom to the right. The important piece of this trick to work is your position: If you are not high enough, you'll just grab the ladder and climb up. You have to be high enough so that climbing would no longer work. Regarding the Wily warp, you can see an example of it here: https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/rm2aig.zip (FMV only, for Japanese Rockman 2). This movie chooses a password, plays the Airman level and goes through the walls to continue the Airman level in the Wily 2nd level scenes. EDIT: It is also available as AVI at: https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/rockman-aire2.avi (no streaming! rightclick, select save as)

Give it a try and you'll see what I'm talking about. I've done the trick by over-jumping the ladder with item-3 also, but if you're using famtasia, its much easier to just hold up+down. When you hold the two, Mega Man will climb the ladder and automatically do the trick once he reaches the top.

Sleepz told me to die? I dunno. A definite way of getting in anyhow would be nice.
You don't have to die. There are other ways to do that trick without dying, but I find it easier to get killed and spawn in the beginning of the Wily level.

A non-Mega Man question but sort of related to this. How do you (or is it David Wonn alone?) "invent" those glitches? Would they work for every game? How to know where and how to try? I mean, it would be cool to have some glitch-skills or something. I have tried left + right in almost every game I have done a time attack on but mostly nothing happens.. Besides from that easy glitch, how to invent the hard ones?

The Wily warp tricks are useless, and often make the game unbeatable.

I read that there's going to be a new rockman 2 run. I have limited knowledge of this series, but I've watched the rockman 2 video a few times and there's a couple things I think that could be improved. 1. I see that your doing airman when you have platforms, I thought that part were get on the clouds guys would be worth having platforms for more than some other levels. 2. There was at least one part where the game lagged a bit, killing the enemies might have made this part by faster. 3. When Heatman is fought for the 2nd time, I believe he was killed as fast as possible, but I don't think his room was exited from as fast as possible. Since Heatman travels faster than rockman it would seem it would be faster to kill heatman while he is on the left side of the room. 4. When fighting Dr. Wily in his final form I think with using platforms you might be able to kill him faster.

Your intuition is good. I'll comment on the things you mentioned. 1. I see that your doing airman when you have platforms, I thought that part were get on the clouds guys would be worth having platforms for more than some other levels. True. This will be done in the movie. For extra fun, try it yourself: it's amazingly hard to get the third item1 on a good position. It will be done in a manner somewhat like this: http://tasvideos.org/jp-mm2/airman77.mpg (rightclick, select "save as") 2. There was at least one part where the game lagged a bit, killing the enemies might have made this part by faster. Can you tell where this happened? I believe it's taken care of, but I'd like to check. 3. When Heatman is fought for the 2nd time, I believe he was killed as fast as possible, but I don't think his room was exited from as fast as possible. Since Heatman travels faster than rockman it would seem it would be faster to kill heatman while he is on the left side of the room. I think this hasn't been planned yet. I can forward your note. 4. When fighting Dr. Wily in his final form I think with using platforms you might be able to kill him faster. Platforms are not weapons. In Rockman2, you can't shoot while using the Items.

The lag I noticed was mostly from the frogs at the start of bubble man's level, there was some in the middle of metal man's level while riding the horizontal platform (item2?) With the platform I idea for Dr. Wily, I was thinking you could use one to jump up to him and change back to bubble.

Alas, you cannot - you cannot even bring up the 'switch weapons' menu if there is a 'weapon object' on the screen (whether that be a bullet or a platform). This is evident both in Wily-2 (gets hit by the first ceiling crusher, then jumps up the gap with an Item-3, then scrolls it offscreen in order to switch to timestop) and Wily-4 (rides an Item-1 up next to one of the turrets, then a long wait for it to disappear before he can switch to crash bombs).

I thought this was the case, I was thinking you could use an item with 1 bar left and have it run out right away, but even that doesn't seem like it would be fast enough, unless you can have a fraction of a bar left.

You can but the energy rounds up every time you access the menu. (hence you can have infinite energy on some weapons, like Metal Blade).
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Oh cool, I didn't know that. I guess it trashes whatever fractional counter it uses when it switches weapons then.

No. It doesn't actually warp. The only thing it does is that it continues the same level in different scenery due to going through walls. The Air Man and Wily 2 maps are next to each others in the ROM, but passing through a wall from Air Man level and going to the Wily 2 map does not change the fact that you're still at the Air Man level. For this reason, there's no Wily 2 level boss at the end of the the map, and you can't progress to Wily 3.

It works in the USA version as well. The idea is that you have to position the Item1 so that it doesn't directly collide with the ceiling you're going to collide Rockman with.

Actually, you barely explained it at all Bisqwit. Yes, you have to use item-1, and yes go up to the ceiling, and apparently don't let item-1 collide with the ceiling? That explanation just implies that you sit on item-1 and go up to the ceiling. Which doesn't work. I appreciate the responses, and you're the man and everything.. but specifics in terms of positioning, shooting, and jumping, especially in relation to the scenery would be immensely helpful, and would stop people from asking about it. I don't have the rom on this PC, so I can't watch the fmv either (my fault I guess, I'm playing a NES). There must be some little trick that we don't know, because "use item-1" just doesn't cut it. The fact you're telling us to not let item-1 collide with the ceiling just confuses me more actually..

Yes - you have to position the item 1 and put Rockman standing at it such that the item1 collides with the ceiling much later than Rockman does. If you still can't figure out how to do it, watch Finalfighter's demonstrations REALLY CLOSE. He has even written a tutorial about it: http://www.globetown.net/~rockmovie/rocktech.htm My tutorial of how the game works when you have pushed Rockman into a wall/ceiling is here: http://tasvideos.org/RockmanTricks.html Ps: I found your "thanks for nothing" style post somewhat offending.

Thanks for the responses.. I didn't mean to offend you, but really, there wasn't much explanation besides "use Item-1". But now (thanks to you) we can access pictures and other pages detailing the specifics. Very helpfull, and I am very gratefull. I didn't know that those pages existed. Thanks again.

Item-3 works just as well, but it has much more limited usability than item-1, because it can only climb walls whereas item-1 can climb bare air. Examples of this trick using item-3 can be seen here: http://tasvideos.org/jp-mm2/r2heat.mpg http://tasvideos.org/jp-mm2/3gouhari3.mpg Example of using item-1: http://tasvideos.org/jp-mm2/r2ras.mpg Be sure to observe how the item is placed so that it does not collide with the ceiling, but Rockman does.
