this is the stupidest most off topic aruement... I think I have ever seen. odolwa is oldawa, he is a jungle warrior, where he's from, is really not of concern to this run, so can we please go back on topic?

Jeez, no one cares "where he is from" but the boss's name is "Odolwa" and the subtitle is "Masked Jungle Warrior" why is there even a discussion on this?

Just a quick thing to point out since I don't recall this being resolved: You can get EITHER a picture of Tingle or a picture of the Deku King for the heart piece. If you are doing a 100% TAS, just snap a picture of the king when you return the princess and hope you get the picture in before Day 2.

Also, Africa is where most jungle warriors are, anyway.
Lots of those come from South America too.
SO that doesnt mean that boss is African. Maddox speaks strongly about the issue. He is a genius we arent so take his word :P http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=your_stupid_ideas

Well, I think I will TAS this game. After all, I've already done Great Bay Temple (feel free to comment on my work on that; any criticism is appreciated).
The GBT vid is awesome. I've come up with a list of possible improvements which I can post later.
1) Should I get the Giant's Mask?
It's hard to say. Luckily though, the mask isn't far from the Twinmold battle, so you can try it with and without the mask to compare if necessary.
2) Should I get the Goron Mask? I know it sounds insane, but it IS possible to skip it. It just requires an extra 10 explosives and some extra bomb pickups in Snowhead (as well as some luck manipulation in the road to Ikana). On the other hand, skipping the Goron Mask cuts it down to 2 cycles, which leaves problems with funds.
So, this is what you have to consider: * Saved: Lens of Truth + following Darmani to grave + Song of Healing cutscene + Goron Race (I'd estimate 5-8 mins. total) * Slightly slower Swamp Cruise skip * Slower travel--no 60mph rolling * No Gilded Sword --> Use Deku Sticks? (2 dmg/hit as opposed to 3; also, supply/funds issues?) Razor Sword? (100 hits enough for entire run?) Could use sword/stick jump attacks for 4 dmg/hit, but not with arrows. * Traveling up Snowhead - more time/explosives; supply/funds issues
3) and speaking of funds, we should consider alternate ways of making money. The lottery seems like a good option. Killing dodongos is another.
There's that cliff wall opposite the northern mountains with the inscribed melody and Skull Kid drawing. With a bit of luck manipulation, you could get 60 (3x20) rupees every time. Also, one of the Pirate's Fortress chambers (I don't know if it's the one skipped) has a chest containing a silver rupee (100).
Some other concerns I have are that I am simply using the arrow keys for movement input, so my range of directions is a bit lacking.
If you're concerned about imprecise movement (and I definitely feel you since I test things on emulator quite a bit), there's the option of buying an N64->USB cable. Acryte has some info.

Use this input plugin, better than any controller for precision and ease of use.

The Goron Mask is unquestionably faster, IMO. The Gilded sword halves (or maybe quarters; I forget which one) the time it takes to beat Majora's Mask, and there's no way to keep the mask down, so that halving/quartering is considerable, and, combined with all the time lost from skipping it, means that Goron Mask is the way to go.

Ooh, does this workaround work for playing a movie as well?

Of course, just change step 1 to "Play the movie for a few seconds, even though you can't see anything."

Unfortunately, that doesn't work fpr me. The graphics still don't work. I'd just record with Jabo's 1.5.2, but I'm not sure if that will cause desyncing. Could someone look into this?

Didn't work for what? It's a workaround for if the graphics work the first time you open the game but show a blank screen without crashing when you restart the game. If that's not your problem then it won't fix it. Update your graphics driver if you haven't already; glN64 didn't work at all for me either until I did that.

As far as I know, just using a certain plugin shouldn't cause desynchs. In any case, you should always do the run a little at a time, so that in the case that the movie does desynch, you won't lose a significant amount of work. And we'll help you check, too. I've printed out the MM route and looked through it a couple of times. It looks very solid--and as for the supply/timing issues, that's what a test run is good for.

Use Jabo 1.6, as there are less graphical glitches, and fast forwarding actually works.

By the way, here's a pretty comprehensive list of the major Rupee sources in MM: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/file/zelda_majoras_mask_rupee.txt There may be a few better rupee sources than those in the current route.

on Youtube there are many vids of Majora's mask, most of the making use of a glitch using the C-buttons to float and stuff, would the use of that (if it's emulated at all) be acceptable?

The only class of glitches not acceptable in a TAS are the Crooked Cartridge glitches (even though they can (surprisingly) be emulated), IIRC. Also, I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with gln64. It works fine upon startup, but after reset it doesn't show anything. The game appears to be running fine, but the screen is blank. And that workaround doesn't seem to work, either. How exactly do I update my graphics driver? Because it's either that or hope that Jabo's 1.5.2 and gln64 are interchangable for this purpose. Oh, and mwlin, I'd love to hear your comments on my GBT TAS.

As I said, it is awesome, but below are a few spots where I think improvements might be possible. Numbers in parentheses indicate the corresponding times from the Youtube movie. (1:24) You bump into the valve while leaping out of the water. Can this be avoided? (3:22) Can you leap out of the water and land directly in the next tunnel? (3:35) Can you leap out of the water and land on a higher section of the red pipe? (4:08) Can you leap out of the water and land on a higher section of the green pipe? (4:13) Can you become Link earlier and take out the bomb a few seconds sooner to save time waiting for it to defuse? (5:22) Could you have stunned Gyorg a bit earlier by jumping into the water in the right direction? Your second cycle was noticeably faster.

1) Probably, although the angle would be dfficult. Remember that I was constrained to 8 directions in this. 2) Not in a timely manner 3) No. Zora Link cannot ascend fast enough. 4) Presumably yes. I just didn't do it because I wanted to get this done. But I tried many times. And there was the controls issue 5) Yes. I didn't think of that, and it makes lining up harder. see the controls issue. Plus I thought the sidehopping and backflip looked cool. 6) Gyorg is much farther away from the platform in the second hit. I have to circle around to get to him in the first hit. I appreciate the comments. There are a few other mistakes I'm aware of(tricks I forgot about), too. Anyway, I'll start on this as soon as I get an actual way to do this.

What did it do instead of working? If the emulator went back to the main GUI (where the ROM list is) then to a blank screen when you tried to play the movie, that means you did it wrong, in which case try following the directions more closely. The whole point of that workaround is that it prevents the emulator from resetting. I always use it when continuing a movie, not because it stops the graphics from failing, but because I don't want to wait for the ROM to load twice. EDIT: And make sure you have "read only" UNchecked when you play the movie unless you only want to watch what you have already recorded.

Your computer manufacturer's site should have a download and support section, for instance if Dell made your computer then it's support.dell.com, and there you should find graphics card driver (and BIOS) updates.

The first, is, how to reach the Romani Ranch without the Goron Mask, bevore the Last Day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWFIM7wr5cs And the second is, how to reach the Scull Kid before midnight of the Last day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr_6gXuByNM I hope this will help to make a TAS Video.

I don't know what Monkey Island and Red XIII have to do with Majora's Mask, but that looks like a really useful trick for a TAS.
