Hello. I am currently trying to add JXQ's commentary to the avi of the Zelda OOT video and I am beginning to get very frustrated with it. I've currently tried Adobe premiere, Windows movie maker, Stoik video converter, and I've tried to re-encode the video with VLC, and make a DVD with nero, all to no success. What program and tools would you all suggest I use to make this?

JXQ has succesfully merged it, if you have a place he could host it he probably would.

Here's how I (finally) succeeded at it. I first created a sound file that included the commentary and all the game sounds. I did this by extracting the audio from the published run and using an audio sequencer. This also allowed me to get respective volumes at the levels I wanted. I also downloaded VirtualDub (but not VirtualDubMod, I've heard it will be easier with that), and opened the current published AVI with it. Then I changed the video mode to "direct stream copy". Then I changed the audio mode from "Source audio" to "wav audio", which allowed me to select the sound I made in the audio sequencer earlier. Finally, I chose "full processing mode" in the audio menu, and selected some bitrate (I don't remember which). Then I exported the AVI. The resulting file was 348 MB. And if someone knows where I could host it, I could try uploading it. Although my upload is horribly slow.

Well, with adobe premiere all I could get for video was garbage. Windows movie maker would either make a garbage file or would de-sync the video and audio. Stoik video converter also made a de-synced video and VLC (which does play the file wonderfuly) can't transcode worth crap. I suppose if I can get the file, I can help seed during the day 8-5 EST. I work at an ISP and have a nice connection at work with a good upload. I wonder though, how synced up is the commentary with the video? When I was massing with it I noticed the commentary and video not completely maching up. I would be happy to play with this or other files some more if someone can suggest some better tools to work with or something that would work with the tools I have.

I synced stuff up pretty well in my version. It's not perfect, but all the words make sense where they are said. I am awful at video encoding, so that's why I used the published video. I just know how to work with audio. Better tools for this task would probably be VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod, but there are others who are more knowledgable on this subject than I.

Don't need to touch the video at all.. strip the audio from the avi and add the commentary in a different channel (with Audacity?) and then add the audio back to the avi.

Well in this case we did. There was an offset of about an average 8 seconds between the audio and the avi. This was also hard to work with because some programs wouldn't let me delay the video any. Anyways, if someone can point me or send me the video I will be happy to seed it.

Trim 8 seconds off the audio.

I just played the video in my BSplayer and the audio in Winamp. I occasionally had to pause one of the programs for the audio to get back to sync but it was no big deal. I don't see why the audio needs to be merged with the avi.

It doesn't need to be, but it is handy to have it all in one program, especially with the sync issues. In the avi I have, I was able to line just about everything up. Another thing I noticed with watching them seperately is that if I did something on the computer such as maximize a window, my video would delay while the audio would not. Anyway, if someone has an idea of how to host such a large file, or how to set up a bittorrent for it, let me know.

For now, can't you use rapidshare/filefront/megaupload? Then someone with experience with bittorrent (not me) can set up a torrent. Has anyone tried making subs for the movie? That might be easier to distribute.

Will any of these services allow such a large file? I think the highest limit is 100 MB.

hmm, I wish tasvideos had a xdcc bot so we wouldn't have these problems. JXQ , if I were you I would just try torrents.

Filefront is 1 GB, rapidshare is 300 MB, yousendit is 2 GB? but only lasts a week. I'd go with filefront if anything, not likely to get deleted there since it's a game vid.

Instead of making a commentary-version of the video which is completely separate from the original, wouldn't the right solution be to make an ogm or a mkv with the original video (direct stream copy, no re-encodings please) and two audio tracks: The original and the commentary. (Granted, it will require for people to have a player which supports ogms/mkvs with multiple audio tracks, but we all have that, don't we?)

The advantage with only one audio track is decreased space. However, I don't have the desire to have both AVIs, so this isn't a solution to those who do. And the current encoding crap is complicated enough to me, and I was hardly into it. I can only imagine the craptacular job I'd do at something like mkv and 2 sound channels. Edit: I also tried FileFront last night, and it consistently didn't work. The site kept telling me that I was trying to upload a zero-byte file.

That is what I did. But the commentary didnt line up with the game perfectly.

Why dont you try torrents? How fast is your upload?

My upload is 256k. Lame. I'm not sure how to start a torrent, although it's probably trivial. If someone can let me know, then I can try it, although I can't guarantee that my computer will always be on to seed.

I know how to start a torrent and make one but I don't know where or what tracker you can use. Want to just send it on irc? Those that want it I will send it to people too on irc too if they ask for it. I think some people should start file servers and stuff on the irc channel too if that were to be allowed, for sharing tas video stuff.

Yeah I'm pretty sure HG is the only one who cares about this. The rest of us seem to not even care.

Hopefully I've done this right. Here is a link to a torrent which I'm currently seeding of this avi file with commentary. I'd like to thank Bisqwit for letting me use his tracker for this file. I'll seed it as much as I can, but my upload is quite slow, and I turn my computer off sometimes. But this should work better than other ideas. (Filefront still gives me the zero-byte file error, even when I tried to put this 27k torrent on there (which, when zipped, becomes 28k, lol).)
