I know what you guys might think. That I am one of those who think the entire purpose of making a run is to show off skill, and that using tools is "deceiving" and "cheating." I am not. I am actually the opposite. I love watching runs that demonstrate cool moves, neat tricks, level secrets, whether it takes skill or not. However, most of the tool-assisted movies on this site are straightforward "perfect" and completely dull that it bores me. An example is the SMW run where the author most of the time exploited glitches to be able to fly under the floor and beat the level in the fastest way possible. Yes, that seems to be the philosphy. "Making videos showing the fastest way to beat a game." Basically, all your videos here lack style. I also dont wanna see megaman beating every level in 30 seconds by using those warpable "steps" all the time to go thru walls. I wanna see him fight, dodge, mock the enemies, do cool tricks! Rather than aiming for beating the level as fast as possible, I'd like to see you guys focus on showing cool moves. Only THEN will Bisqwit (in my opinion) succeed on making movies that are "beautiful to watch." Or at least move the videos in 2 different categories: ones that aim for fastest completion time and ones like on Zophar. So in conclusion: I like both tool-assisted and competitive (favoring competitive ones a little more.) And I do admit that this site DOES have videos that are cool to watch like Super Mario Bros. the author completed the game as fast as possible IN STYLE and THIS is what I like about TA.

The reason we don't have many playing-around movies is that they are difficult to judge. There is an infinite potential of movies like that to be submitted, and there are many reasons to not accept all of them. However, given that it is possible that there will be, say, 20 submissions of different goof-arounds for Super Mario Bros, it is certain that we would be forced to choose which ones to accept, which ones to reject, and which ones that have already been published we should replace or remove. Comparing apples and oranges is never easy. While we do not actively reject movies like that, these practical reasons are keeping the submissions next-to none. Let me ask if I understood you right: You are not against tool-assisted videos. Using tools is okay for you. You are against tool-assisted speedruns, right?

Well, look how many registered members you have. Make a voting system: if ppl dont like one video: take it off. And I dont believe there is an "infinite potential" of movies like those to be submitted. E.g. Secret of Evermore, Saturn made an excellent and enjoyable 7-hour-run and nobody to my knowledge would spend all that time to make a movie if he knows it will turn out horrible. P.S: Saturn's 7-hour-run was more enjoyable to watch in my opinion than the 2-hour one that follows your philosophy. Especially with abusing the "Atlas glitch" or whatever that allowed him to kill everything in 1 hit later on. The movie turned out completely "fake" and dull. However, I do give credit to Saturn for all the labor it took to make the movie. And I value the movie for as a demonstration on how it would look like if it was played by a god. EDIT: Damn, I didnt see your last paragraph (thought it was a sig)

Whether a movie is tool-assisted or not does not matter to me, as long as the goal is to make a movie with style, if it takes tools to do that, no probs. To try and make myself clear: when I said i'm against T-A videos, I meant I am against the typical tool-assisted video. Not all of them suck. I did enjoy watching Super Mario Bros. Your typical tool-assisted video is one that aims for fastest completion time, which usually involves doing it in the most no-style way possible (ahem my previous example where the author of the SMW run just flew under the wall in order to not have to dodge all the spikes/enemies, only cuz that would make the video longer and in your definition: not perfect.

In my opinion that was cool. It was awesome seeing the author take the most unlikely path -- below the screen, which usually results in certain death.

Bisqit just told me it's based on the length of the video.

Who told? When? I never said such thing. EDIT: Nevermind. Locking this thread and the poster's account for violation of forum rules. (No double accounts.) You said you won't be coming back to this "stinkin' dump"; you should have kept your word. For clarity (or maybe further confusion) to those who have no idea what just transpired… here's a portion of an e-mail he sent after I locked this thread.
