I know that a contest isn't exactly a thing this site would have, but if anyone's interested in participating in a prizeless one, I have a proposition: Make the most interesting 1-minute movie you can, in any game. You can start from a savestate, and you probably will end up doing so. I have no idea who'll judge it, but it'll be fun.

It would be cool to see what people could make with any mode in Mario Paint, given just 60 seconds. That offers music, imaging, or the lovely gnat game as options.

Aren't our usernames already custom? Do you mean titles?

D'oh, yes, I meant titles. I used to have a custom title, but not any more. I miss it!

So who's interested in this contest, to the extent that they'd actually make an entry?

Here is my entry. SMW Chocolate Island 3 Small or perhaps SMW Awesome Small Both are played completely non-tool. CI was recorded on an emulator without slowdown, savestates, frame advance, etc and I used a SNES controller plug in. Awesome was done on console (I just videotaped it from my TV), which explains the terrible quality. I could probably come up with something cooler, but those are the only cool videos I currently have uploaded.

Why was this moved to the non-assisted speedrun section? LSK didn't say anything about tool-assisted entries being disallowed. Although, I think something fun to see would be: An attempt to reproduce in real-time a tool-assisted run or stunt that failed in the most interesting way.

I'm pretty sure you can. In an older SMW published TAS, there is a noticable wall jump in the first castle level (I think Iggy's).

Oh what the heck. Here's 19 more submissions. Some played on console, some played on emulator. The emulator ones are played at 100% speed with no slowdown, savestates, frame advance, rerecords, etc. and a SNES controller (plug-in) is used. These movies aim for entertainment as well as speed. They are all runs of different levels from Super Mario World, most of them played with small Mario.

You can beat it easily with yoshi. You can beat it small without yoshi and switch palaces too, a trick semi-recently discovered by JXQ. I think jimsfriend is the only one who has pulled that off non-tool assisted yet. You can walljump in smw, although don't count on it to succeed if you only have one try :)

I think i remember pulling this off 2 years ago. I'm not 100% sure or not if i did, I'd have to replay it again, then i would know whether I can or not.

I would have to guess you didn't, since it's pretty complicated to figure out and extremely complicated to pull off. Good luck on doing it though.

I tend to figure out complicated task in videogames, so i wouldn't doubt that I haven't done it before. There was a time where I played that agme non-stop for a while and became extremely good. I still cant find the game, so I still wont know. If i play the level again I will know for sure whether or not I have done it before.

andrewg, if you figured this out all on your own, I'd be pretty surprised. I'd be even more surpsied if you actually managed to do it on console.

I'll take your word for it. I feel very strongly that this is not something you do/figure out by accident and then forget about. But alright.
