Given that there are many shortcuts and cool tricks in Wave Race 64, I think it would be nice to see a TAS run of htis game.

i agree but the problem with race games are that there isn't much difference in a TAS and a speedrun usually so the best we can do is beat the world records by a few frames/seconds as opposed to finding cool glitches/ having really impressive play only possible in TAS with that said i would definitly love to see this since there isn't a speedrun of this as far as i know and i like this game

I think this game really deserves to be on the lists here at least. Wasn't this game one of the first games released to N64?

If that qualifies the game for runnability, then there are a lot of crappy games that should be shoe-ins!

I personally would love to see more TASed racing games, but it's extremely hard to do. It's pretty easy to make a single frame-perfect turn, but it's really tough to make a frame-perfect route through a course. And yeah, this was one of the first N64 games IIRC. Doesn't mean it's good, but it is well-known.

A stunt runthrough would also be rather lackluster as the player would just do the start trick to minimize points, although that could be forbidden in the rules or something.

Here are some time attack/stunt videos of the PAL version which runs about 20% slower due to the 50/60Hz issue: http://www.superplayers.de/stefanmahrla/WaveRace64/

the PAL WR on sunny beach, 1:16:885, is probably 'the most insane wr' on this game.

Those time attacks and stunts videos are awesome. I wish someone could make TAS for this. BTW, is this game working in the current N64 emulator ?

It works, but it runs quite slow on my computer. Don't know why because other games don't have this problem Edit: Ah, that's weird: Now, even other games run very slow... Edit2: New mupen installation -> speed problem solved. WaveRace is emulated correctly as fas as I can see, but only with Jabo's 1.6 video-plugin.

Nice vids. I have to try if these "saltos" on the sand are doable on a real console. As far as I remember, it was really hard to do saltos on the sand, because you easily got stuck and couldn't drive back to the water. So I hope you will do some TAS of levels like Marine Fortress or Port Blue, where there is no sand.

The sand-stunt I do in the beginning of Sunset Bay is easy to do on console. The others are harder.

Wow, these are cool. Are you going to do a full TAS of all courses in stunt mode and submit?

Don't know if this is possible, because not all tracks are unlocked at the beginning. So he had to use a save with all tracks unlocked and that isn't allowed as far as I know...

I'm pretty sure it would be allowed, I can't do anything right now though.

Sucks that the Shindou edition still doesn't work on Bizhawk.

Interesting. For me it just shows the N64 logo in the beginning and nothing else. Do I need to have some specific settings or something? I've never TASed on bizhawk before. I just downloaded the latest version and I didn't change any settings. Pretty much all other games work except this. Edit: When I try to play your movie, the "SHA" is red. Not sure what SHA is, but does it mean we have a different version of the game? I also tried the older bizhawk version you were using, but it didn't work; didn't even get the N64 logo.
