    • Don't know if I truly achieved this goal... sometimes I didn't kill an enemy because of lag and maybe I should have tried a little harder... if a publisher doesn't want to add this, that's perfectly fine.

I made a warp version since the game is pretty linear and a short movie would be better for it.
Sami made a movie without warps of Adventure Island 2. I had already TASed a few levels, so I saw his movie could be improved. I kinda promised I would make/finish this movie so here it is. I use warps at the levels 1, 3 and 5... so I can't really compare those levels with Sami. Levels 2, 4 6, 7 and 8 are exactly the same, so these can be compared with Sami's run.
  • Level 2 - 230 frames faster
  • Level 4 - 307 frames faster
  • Level 6 - 1021 frames faster
    • This is actually timed in Sami's favour, since I had to collect the bird dino in level 6, and Sami already did this in level 1.
  • Level 7 - 378 frames faster
  • Level 8 - 1525 frames faster
The total time saved in these levels is 3461 frames, which is almost a minute. I saved frames in nearly ever stage with better accuracy and lesser lag. I saved lots of seconds on each boss fight. I saved a lot by climbing the vertical levels, instead of flying up. I saved a lot by changing the route at level 8.

adelikat: Setting this to delayed in hopes for some more response. I am suprised at the lack of votes. Sami's previous run got more voters/comments than this improved version. Why the lack interest?

Great movie!!! Boss battles was awesome :) but egg rooms can be little more entertaining. Voting Yes. Some day I want to se warpless run ;)

This game is far less repetitive than 1 or 3. This warped version is a much better choice than the warpless. This run looks really fast and flies through each level with style :D Easy yes vote.

I agree, the game is very linear. I wouldn't have picked this game as a to TAS if I hadn't started it a long time ago and promised I would finish it sometime (Sami's run wouldn't have been rejected otherwise). Ever since I made the Mega Man 5 TAS, I decided to make movies that might take a little more time to make but with a result that had the potential to really impress (some) people. This movie clearly doesn't fall into that cathegory. However, I don't think the game is too linear. There are a lots of possible routes at each world, you can chose several dinosaurs, you have to make choices on whether to take a piece of fruit, or slow down to avoid it, there are some interesting boss battles, since you controll the dinosaur that helps you aswell (one input controlling 2 characters virtually) and so on and so on... If the game was really very linear, I wouldn't have been able to improve Sami's run, which got 7 yes votes and only 2 no votes (one by me since I knew it was improvable, and one by Phil, since the didn't like a warpless run), by nearly a whole minute. Also, when rewatching this, I was kinda suprised by the entertainment I got from it. I thought it would be pretty boring, but I was wrong. The only parts that were really frustrating were the egg rooms at the end of the level (I don't believe wobbling would have made those really fun either). (On a side note, I dislike it when people compare with other games and say: "This run was bad, but there are way worse movies published". Like I stated above, I don't think this run is bad.) But if compared to the Adventure Island 1 and Adventure Island 3, I think this game is by far the most suited for a TAS. Sorry if I seemed 'defensive'. Just wanted to mention some stuff.

But if compared to the Adventure Island 1 and Adventure Island 3, I think this game is by far the most suited for a TAS.
Agreed as well. AI1 and 3 are publishable games and this game is more entertaining than both of them.

Good: fast-paced, colorful, some interesting levels (ice, water, and cloud levels were usually fun to watch) Bad: A lot of just "hold right and hop" action, which got to be quite repetitive. For me, these cancel and I will vote meh. If the other Adventure Island games are not as entertaining as this, I don't think I will watch them.

Fartosaurus means victory! But in some of the levels where you use the flying dino you reach the goal very high and the resulting descent seems to eat a lot of time, is it possible to get there lower? At least one level (second flying level IIRC) seemed like you could have dropped a lot more altitude before hitting the goal as you cleared the last enemy a few screens earlier. Or would that have caused enemies to spawn and get in your way?

As long as the dino enters before the music stops, it doesn't matter. There are levels where you can fly really high, and where the height does matter, but I avoided flying too high (dropping altitude to make it look more fluent would lose time however).

I enjoyed this movie enough to give it a yes vote. There is no denying the linear nature of the game, but I think Baxter did a good job of providing variety to make it entertaining.

It's fairly entertaining and Baxter clearly put some work into it. I think the game is borderline, but it's on the "yes" side of the border.

It's been years since I played this game and I don't remember everything. First, it seems like the reason you avoid fruit is because it adds extra time to your timer, which delays you as your score is added up at the end of the level, is that correct? My only other questions: 1. Why do you avoid certain eggs at the end of each level? 2. Why did you dump that blue dude in the lava in that one level? It seemed to slow you down a lot for that small stretch at the end. 3. There are a few points where it appears you collide with walls that may have been easily avoided. Mostly it's with your dolphin-like creature, but it seems like the up/down controls for it are difficult to maneouver, so I can understand if there's no way to miss them without drastically slowing down. But a few times near the end you do so with your pterodactyl when it doesn't seem necessary. Why is this? Oh, and by the way, saying that the game is too linear is kind of a dumb comment to me. Half of the games on the "recommended for first-time viewers" page are quite linear, especially Super Mario Bros. 2.

It determens on which level you will enter next. For instance, the first four eggs at level 1-1 would get you to the vulcano level, but the fifth egg (which I take) gets me to the forest level (where the warp is located).

Yeah, it might seem slower, but I obviously timed both keeping the blue dude, and losing it. Losing it came out faster. You have to wait a bit at that spot if you don't want to lose it, which is slower.

If it's at a forest level, it's mostly to avoid fruit. With the water dinosaur, you can move really fast horizontally, but really slow vertically. I take the corner is a way by which I get vertical velocity as soon as possible. Bumping into a wall is irrelevant, since horizontal velocity is saved, and you'll start at full speed when you move on. Avoiding this bumping wouldn't have gotting any better vertical speed, and would have lost the horizontal velocity... so it would have been slower.

Omg I hate you for that -_- I tried as little guy one million times to get that game. But I ever failed, at the last world. And if I ever reached the last level I was 1 second to slow... *grml* Hm... I think dig up my NES and try it again. I would vote for a "Yes" by the way. Well made!
