on BoB, i can go through the white walls that surround the chain chomp. but some walls in the game are defined as boundaries and somehow mario can't go through them.

Didn't know that. Hmm, so it's not as easy as I thought it was. Kind of strange why they would define any "boundary walls" if they all operate the same under normal conditions. Perhaps the defining factor for passthrough/nonpassthrough is whether or not it's a perfectly vertical wall?

Here's an AVI showing what happens if you BLJ too much, through a few solid objects...

Looks skyboxish. Like you went up and over the wall rather than through it.

Wow, that guy launched way farther than when I tried! While losing my mind trying to blast my way through the gate with a bob-omb, I tried the BLJ on those platforms and was able to launch myself as far as the cannon. All the way out of the level is pretty cool.

Some people can do that trick often enough that they consider using it for a 70-star run (it's pretty early in the game... first star!). I've done it too, but I only had to get it working once. Btw, I think that vid you linked to was done on a console, not emu.

What?! how can any other method be faster than that in the video demonstration?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was. That proves that it can be done, hence my challenge to see if anyone else here can do it. I certainly can't.

I downloaded the ROM and an emulator just to watch this and all I can say is wow. After the swimming levels (which are a chore to watch in any game) it was just mind blowing. Keep up the good work, I hope your next WIP comes soon!

This has already been discussed, you can't go through the key doors without the keys...you might be able to get through the first bowser door (8 stars) somehow but I can't see how you would get through the second one without the MIPS rabbit (requires 15 stars), and you need to beat Board Bowser's Sub to get to bowser 2.

I've seen this done in Big Boo's Haunt too. Vid Strangely it doesn't seem to be possible on an actual console though, as I pick up the necessary speed to break out of the level boundaries the game freezes and I have to reset. Here's a vid of me going pretty much as fast as possible on a console without causing a freeze.

Wouldn't that teleportation be absolutely perfect for a TAS? Then again... you can only teleport around inside the merry-go-round right? The uses might be faily limited.

If the TAS was made of mostly teleportation, it wouldn't be very interesting now would it?

I don't know. The Megaman 1 movie consists mostly of zipping and glitching all over the place, and that movie is very interesting...

Mario is capable of a tremendous variety of techniques, and the skill demonstrated by FODA's run is incredible. I, for one, would be disappointed if massive portions of the game were skipped through "teleportation".

I suppose that is an very personal opinion... mine is that Megaman 1 with glitching, Zelda: aLttP (glitchy version), and Zelda 2 (glitchy version) is a lot less entertaining than the "original" versions...

Megaman is not a 3D game either. Super Mario 64 IS. I think that FODA's run is just fine the way it is. It is interesting to watch.
