Yes, I think it would be rediculous to expect FODA to do all of this again! Besides, it's always nice to see a fresh perspective on the game. Even in a TAS, 3D gameplay isn't completely robotic. You can still see a bit of personality in the playing style, not to mention the fact that fresh minds working in slow motion with save states might discover some new quirks, like that seam climbing FODA discovered. I wonder, can that be used to save massive time in the mountain levels??

Have you seen the record runs for Tall Tall Mountain? It's amazing. It's hard to imagine what kind of shortcut FODA could come up with to top it.

I watched the FODA's movie and all I can say is bravo bravo. I was just wondering what progress has been made since the 1st bowswer battle, wouldn't the next phase be the haunted mansion or would it be better to get the invisible cap first. My logical guess is that Shifting Sandland is the first world to be tactled in the basement followed by lava land; hazy maze and Dire Dire Docks. The world I'm looking most forward to seeing is Tall Tall Mountain, espeacially with all these uber water tricks.

FODA, other than few minor things that others have already mentioned, I think this is an excellent. I watched up to the 64th star, keep up with the great work!

Don't forget to look for bljing on elevator shortcuts. One I can think of off the bat is when heading for the star that you "need" the metal cap for, you can do bljs on that elevator to launch you across the water all the way behind the bars. It might not possibly be faster, however, because you'll have to wait for the elevator to come all the way down first, I think.

Can one LJ off the elevator partway down and land in the water? If so, that should eliminate the elevator delay without any damage.

Are there actually any stars in the game where you must use the metal cap, you certainly don't need it for that gas cave as you could probally use wall kick to avoid losing time through damage. If thats true then you could save a heck of amount of time by pause warping or retracing to the ness monster.

Check this thread. There are no stars that require the Metal Cap, but there are four stars that require the Vanish Cap (three if you allow the Chuckya Glitch). Humans may have trouble getting two of the stars without the Metal Cap.

well he needs to get the 8 red coins on the metal cap course, so it doesn't lose that much time, I don't know how much time it would help save though.

Could someone please encode an AVI of the latest WIP? Mupen is horrible on my computer, and I'm plagued with 50 error messages a minute, plus it's running about 5 FPS slow, which screws up the sound.

I can't imagine getting the metal cap would save any time at all... But who knows... The reason you would have to wait for the elevator to hit the bottom and then start heading back up in order to do the trick is because the elevator has to be moving up to get the rapid speed. At least, I think so. The nice thing about this trick is it skips the very slow swimming across the water as well as the trick/animation to open the gate. Hopefully it saves some time, as it will look 100 times cooler.

I unfortunately deleted the avi that was uploaded. Sorry. FODA: You can check your IRC logs, if you save them. Or you can ask around in IRC for someone that has all their logs from last week, and ask them to search around 2am-5am PST on each day for a rapidshare link.

I am watching it and I saw quite a few mistakes and not much stuff impressive, other than precise and accurate movements. I have gotten 120 stars in this game years ago, so I know how the game is. Edit: I change my opinion, I just saw the 8th red coin in bowser's first level thingy and my jaw is serparated from my head, to say the least.

Just wondering if you can enter the cottage in the cool cool mountain level by going through the bottom. If so, you can walk/jump/whatever up the slide

How long would it take to go all the way up the slide like that? Also, does that reset the slide star, or just the race star?

Going back up the slide would be really tedious and hard, as one misstep would cause you to slide back down or fall into the abyss. But then again, this is a TAS'd run...

Well, would someone be able to mainain enough momentum to even make it up such a large slope? Would this momentum work on the loops? I fear that someone would have to crawl all the way up the slide from the bottom, which is terrifying at best. Also, they would have to find a way to initiate a crawl after jumping over the final cube bridge, which isn't so bad. Still, that's like 1-2 minutes of pure crawling.

You can't enter the door at the bottom of Cool Cool Mountain, pwned ;). But yes, it would be possible to crawl all the way back to the top I guess. For the very hard CC-less star in Jolly Roger Bay you can also reach the platform if you double-longjump from the ship at his highest point. It's a bit easier than the mylestyle (Myles Bukrim found the method which FODA also uses in his run, same goes for the latest 114th star in WF). I don't think that would make an entertaining run after the 120 star run gets published. Most of the run would be the same except dodging some coins, getting stars a bit slower with maybe 3-4 new tricks like how to reach the island in BBB CC-less, the chuckya glitch or how to get the pyramid puzzle star without touching the coins... well you could find single videos for these little tricks at youtube.com for example. It's a funny challenge to do but not for a TAS :) .

you can't enter the cottage in the cool cool mountain level by going through the bottom because that's a load point. it's just another room of death. actually, i can do that star in Bob-omb battlefield in a very interesting way by climbing the mountain at full speed and launching to the star box doing a z-flip in the air and getting the star without touching the island at all (he lands on the island after grabbing the star)
