For whoever plans on having a go at this game when the right tools become available, check out these movies done by Paul Lucas: http://dl.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?classicgaming/castlevania/emu/scv4-movies.zip NOTE - You'll need znes version .987a to run these movies. Also note the comments in the text file, because even during playback, random events can happen that didn't occur when the movie was recorded, resulting in desyncs. You may have to replay it a few times to get the desired result. [Edit by Bisqwit: Add "Super", thus making proper game name in the thread title.]

Damnit, I've seen like half of this run back in 2000 or something. And now after 4 years when I was going to check it out, ZSnes freezes (what's the trick to get it to work in XP Pro? :() Regards,

I think Paul Lucas deserves the title "Father of Speed runs" because he made that shit back in 1999. He basically layed out all the core concepts that we use today for speed runs. Paul Lucas did the speed run because he saw RyanG's speed run. He basically took the motivation from that video, and raped the game completely.

Speed running had existed long before 1999... Games such as Doom and Quake had speed running communities shortly after their release.

I think you are in the wrong topic. This one is dedicated for Super Castlevania 4.

Weee, I can't wait to see this one. I played the hell out of this game back in those days. It's in my opinion the best Castlevania game ever (though that might be because it's the only one I've finished)...

When I went to try and watch the movie, the ZSNES gave me an error about not being able to go into full-screen, so I wanted to know if there was a fix so I can watch these Paul Lucas movies...

Phil this was a great run by you. I think this is the best Castlevania game in the series, and also I really dont think improvements can be made (not at least by minutes). well done

I watched it, and it was very nice. I liked the hoarding of holy water right where a boss appears, killing them almost instantly sometimes. :) The inside-the-wall glitch in level 1 was cool, can't it be invoked anywhere else? Anyway good job.

I am curious about the collection of unnecessary items, such as money bags or extra hearts. Indeed, on some bosses you have to throw away holy water to use all the hearts. Why was this done?

Hi, another question: You seem to by quite sloppy in taking damage. I see that many times it's quite benefical in terms of time-saving (you get thrown a bit forward when hit), but many times you just take damage without any visible advantage, thus ending up with just one bar of energy (so I see that it's well planned none the less) where taking another hit may really get you forward faster. And then there are some boss-fights where you take damage (in level 7, if I remeber correctly). This could be avoided, I think. Anyway: I never thought that the SNES is capable of doing that great graphics and sound. Impressive game indeed. I never had the luxury seeing it till now. And your run is great besides my small point - which actually is just a question instead of real critics. I'd never be capable of doing a comparable run. Philip

No, it was the only place it is working.

Collecting bag of gold give points.Throwing away holy water to use all the hearts save us time.

Count on me that it saves time.

It was in level 4. It could be avoided but it's faster being hitted.

There's some sound problem with Snes9x but it's listenable. Thx

I understand why you need to use up all hearts, but it seems like you collect too many only to throw them away. Maybe it's just my personal taste, but I like to see unnecessary items ignored, such as bags of money or extra hearts. I guess it doesn't affect how fast you play the game, so the decision is yours.

How can we know exactly how much hearts it was needed for each stage? Anyway I prefer to see an animated character than a waiting the ball to appear character.

I actually like all the wobbling. It makes me laugh. I don't know why, it's just funny and amusing to me. Phil, Genisto, don't listen to any of the haters, keep the sprite convulsions in your replays.
