You mean this? https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/rockmantest3.mpg Well I'm not using it, because it's too slow. :)

I understand, but I intend to make a as-fast-as-possible movie with all possible tricks, so I'm going to use that trick as well. Ps: Do you think the pause trick makes the game too easy? Have a look at this video clip (1 MB): https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/rockman-guts.avi It's the Gutsman fight from my movie. Watch it and try doing the same. You may use an emulator and quicksaves and as slow speed as you want.

Use the trick...please! The time saved is incredible.

The only bosses where the pause trick makes it excessively easier are also the most tedious portions of the game. Sure, it's impressive to see Morimoto dodge Yellow Devil the first time he comes onto the screen, but if it went on two or three more times, you'd know that he's not going to get hit. So why bother? In the end, it just makes the movie more repititious. Besides, there's only maybe five bosses that aren't trivialized simply by using the correct weapon. 1) Whichever boss you fight first. 2) Yellow Devil 3) Cut Man in Dr. Wily's castle 4) Mega Man clone 5) Dr. Wily Everyone else dies too easily to the appropriate weapon, so the fight isn't going to be impressive anyway.

Cut Man is very easy to fight first, since he gets knocked backwards even when hit by the Mega Buster and (if you're not going for pure speed) you can use the room's layout to your advantage.

Take the Fire Storm to him here, and it becomes fairly trivial, pause trick or not.

This is kind of like fighting Cut Man first, with only the Mega Buster. You can get him locked into a pattern and take him out fairly easily, although it would take some time.

Agreed. I think that's why Capcom nerfed the effectiveness of the master weapons after this game, so most would take seven hits from the correct weapon to kill. Makes for a much more impressive run, especially for something like this.

That kind of thing didn't happen until the 3rd game. There are quite a few and 3 hit kills in Rockman 2.

Heh, you must be playing easy mode :p It doubles the damage bosses take. The only < 3 hits in the game are Metal on Metal man (end game), and Heat on Wood (fully charged).

I think Metal Man dies to one or two hits from his own weapon. Wood Man dies to two fully charged "Fire Wheel" shots. Even in Mega Man 3, I think some people die with 3 or 4 shots. I know for sure that in Mega Man 5, they made it so the appropriate weapon always deals 4 damage. The point is, not using the pause glitch will not make the movie any more exciting.

True. But it does save time, and it is challenging to do perfectly.

I think that the glitch may take away from the excitement. Maybe you could do a mixture of both - dodge a few attacks and use the pause trick. It'll save some time and make it as exciting as without. Where you might not beat the best times that use the pause trick completely, you'll have amore exciting movie. Just remember that it is your movie, so it's up to you what you want to do and whether you want to be influenced by other people. [Edit: Why did I say that last part, I'm trying to influence you. Oh well, I guess it is true.]

Why do you even bother posting? It is clear to me that he is using the pause trick. Even if the majority of the people here didn't support it, I believe he would use it. He is trying to make the fastest movie possible. The movie he is attempting to beat appears so perfect to a layman like me that nothing but absolute mastery of the game beyond perfection will suffice to improve upon it. Not using the pause trick to "make a more entertaining movie" (an arguable point in and of itself) is not mastery, it is merely inferior.

also remember that the pause trick can also be used in other ways such as to pass through enemies; it wouldn't make sense to use the glitch during the level and then stop using it when you reach the boss just because you think it looks boring.

i think using the pause glitch makes it a lot more enjoyable to watch. i bought this game a long time ago when it was $90 and when i got up to the bosses i was like "good lord how can someone do this?" when i saw morimoto finish the bosses so simply i laughed so hard. it made the download time worth while. when you count the time to do the glitch vs the time it takes to actualy beat the boss normaly, they would even out really. the glitch simply makes them eaiser to do.

The use of the pause trick is a little controversial. Many people have voiced objections, and it is not allowed by TG "rules." Personally, I love it, but I see the other side's point of view. Irregardless, there's no reason to discourage someone from posting.

Hey i'm new here, but i wanna say that the time attacks videos r0x! Here's the question. The guys that do the megaman's time attack use a autofire button? otherwise i can't understand how they shoot so quickly, is almost impossible!

http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html I suggest you find out just how these movies are made. Specifically: Games have been played by slowing down the emulator. It's entirely possible to simulate auto-fire by slowing down the emulator to the point where you can easily shoot every other frame. Although I do think Famtasia has an autofire feature (Gens doesn't seem to).

From the middle of my rainy holiday days, has a new Rockman movie sprouted up. The movie length is 18:21 and rerecord count close to 45000. I'm submitting it in a few days. I'm currently writing this post in a library and I don't have the movie on diskette :) I also created six other Rockman movies - one for each robot master. People have been complaining of the pause trick, so I decided to beat each of the robot masters with the regular weapon only without the use of the pause trick. As fast as possible of course. I'd visit IRC now, but libraries don't unfortunately have SSH clients... EDIT: I have a good connection now so the movie is now queued in the submission manager.

Famtasia does have autofire (Config -> Key -> check box for Auto), but with slow-motion it's hard to tell the difference.

No it's not :-) Before the 60fps hack you could easily tell when auto-fire wasn't being used.

Indeed. At 60 fps, things are different: I didn't use autofire in my Rockman movie, but nobody can tell.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Easily one of, if not the best movie on the site. Anxiously awaiting the Rockman 2 video now :-) BTW, I loved Wiley level 3. That one had me laughing out loud.
