I think that more than 30 frames might make the movies look sloppy. If anyone can write tools that would help out in the process, they would be very useful. I dont think I have the coding experience to do this. It will probably flounder otherwise.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just have some kind of multiplayer SSB over the internet, but slowed down to about 25% speed? It would be sort of different, but a similar idea...

i think the funny part of this is exactly in being sloppy sometimes^^

We've had that for years. Here is one implementation.

I made a few vs cpu match vids. It is my first time making tool assisted vids. I just did it to see what was possible, it's really fun making these vids. :D I have a prob, my computer is very fast yet I can't get a good frame rate when playing at normal speed. Yet I can get 60FPS when using PJ64. I used mupen64 for these vids. Thanks if you answer my questions. Here's a quick video showing the speed of fox's shine: http://s4.11mbit.in/5gz17dDfcDJlLw7z9Aca1ciJlhoO51O4a2dDJGM17z5fGiJuz178ifGM/Jv2urxO4 As you can see it is amazingly fast ^_^ The video uses real media codec

The holder of the 1-Player SSB high score (verified by Twin Galaxies) made an excellent tool-assisted video as well. Note that he was aiming for a high score, not a fast time -- but there is little difference, as you'll see: http://media.putfile.com/SSB-N64-1P-Kirby-2353785pts

I don't really know... you can really tell he's used to normal playing, and not making tases. I don't know much about the scoring system, and bonus scores and such... but if he made a tas, aiming for the highest possible score, he should at least equal the world record time at the break the targets mode, if not beating the world record. Finishing the break the target mode will earn you more points... so I don't really think it's a great tas (he even missed some hits :O ) and it can clearly be improved.

Ah, I noticed that too. He probably thought that the few seconds on the Target/Platform stages wouldn't make a huge difference on his overall score (which, of course, violates the spirit of the TAS runner to strive for perfection).

Does anybody wanna see something else done for this game? SSB is one of my favourite games, I'd be willing to do something if people would watch. Anyone?

You could run all bonus games as fast as possible, followed by decimating Luigi.

Well, go for the score attack and aim as high as possible (including the bonus rounds). I'd love to see it.

Agreed, a score attack would be cool.

Ok. I've got a SSBM tournament to go to tomorrow. But as soon as that's over I'll begin researching which character will be best to use for such a challenge. Fox is fast... but Kirby can get the pacifist bonus score. Hmmm...

What about our idea to do three runs of the main game, one that's as fast as possible, one that gets the most score possible, and one that gets as many bonuses as possible, with each run unlocking a secret character? And then you unlock Luigi while doing everyone's Break The Targets and finish off with Board The Platforms.

Wait, does anyone want to try a low score run? ...it's harder than you think.

The rule is that you can't use Continues. That tends to make it harder to get low scores. What you have to do is: - Start with infinite time and at least 2 lives. - Lose a life on the first round. - Pick up an item every round. - Take some damage (and finish with some). - Punch the enemy once, then smash them (for the kill). Avoid star finishes. - Fail at all bonus rounds. - Do not finish rounds (or the whole game) too quickly. [Tough, eh?] - Do not let Arwing, tornado, acid kill the enemy. - Play on Very Easy. - Get your teammate killed on the Mario Bros. and at least one of them killed on Giant DK. (Not so easy.) - Make sure to use at least one ground attack against the Master Hand.

There isn't that big of a difference between the time and score attacks (since time is factored into your score). And low score is just stupid IMHO.

Then don't do it.

What about that idea of going for Pacifist as much as possible?

That could be fun. Go for No Damage as well while you're at it! Full Switzerland!

You mean, throwing one punch, then getting the shit kicked out of you as you wait until there is 1 second left, and then finishing the level with a really cheap move? Yeah, no thanks.
