Yeah, it could be a fault in the recording compression, or a bug in the actual game, or a problem with your eyes. I could understand if you saw a bar go DOWN by one suddenly, anyway.

I looked, and it does do this, but there's another anomaly just before it; the weapon decreases by 1 each time it is used, except one time it decreases by 2. Right after it decreases by 2, it goes up by 1.

Hmm... I watched the battle with Blizzard Man in Famtasia just now, and it appeared to me that when Mega Man got to four units of weapon energy, the next shot he fired didn't take any energy, but the shot after that took two units. I think there may be a tiny glitch in how the energy bar sprites are updated.

The game doesn't see it exactly as X bars of energy per shot, it sees it as basically whatever number value per shot the makers gave it, which then relates to how many bars are shown. For example: If you've got, say, 100 bars of energy and a special weapon takes 1.5 energy, it's going to go down 1 bar on the first shot, then 2 on the next because the weapon energy bar in Mega Man has no way of visually representing what's between 99 bars and 100 even though it still keeps track.

You are quite perceptive. I have watched my own run countless times and never noticed this.

I will revive this old and derailed topic as I am currently working on a new version of MM6. I won't be making any radical changes, but at the moment I am planning on starting with Flameman and then going by the same order as in the previous version. I have now done two stages and would like all of you to give me your opinions on my boss fights. Do you think they are too spastic and give seizures? Is it tiring to watch all that bouncing around? I would also like to know if you think it's better to change to Flame Blast later in Blizzardman's stage and then not get the two weapon energy refills. Get the fmv here (remember to save as). EDIT: Oh and thanks to Oasiz for hosting that file for me :)

Nice so far Kyrsimys. I like your boss fights, jumping around making them look like a minor nuisance when you just want to play ;) Concerning the Flame Blast it looks fine as it is. You're not going out of your way to get the energy refills since they drop right on top of you.

I personally don't care for stuff like that. I'd rather just see it done calmly. Just business as usual :-) I have a feeling that I'd be in the minority on this one, though.

Which is faster? I imagine this is because those seals take quite a few hits, don't they? On the other hand, we're only talking 4 enemies so it can't be that much of a difference in time. Ideally, I think it would be best to never get any refills but it doesn't always work out that way. But if we're talking little to no difference in time between the two then skip the refills.

I didn't really like the idea of refills, either, so I'll probably leave it out of the final version. I will try to be a little bit more calm with the boss battles, too.

Again, I am reviving this thread, this time to say that I am really burned out on this game. I started trying to improve my run again but after three stages I started to get a feeling this run would never be finished. I would still like to see a new Mega Man 6 run and I want to encourage anyone who has the time and energy to try their hand at this game. I would be more than happy to help in any way I could if someone picked this up. Now I'm going to list some of the things that should be done better in the next version. The biggest errors in my old run are in the boss fights. The bosses in MM6 like to jump a lot, and it's not always easy to manipulate them into keeping their feet on the ground. I lose a lot of time because of bad luck manipulation especially the second time the bosses are fought. Overall precision. The old run was done with Famtasia, which means that menu handling, jumping, shooting and sliding can all be done a lot more precisely. Some of my decisions were just BAD. For example the end of the Plantman stage was horrible. You can see the changes I made to it from the FCM below. There is also something I never tested: the shortcut at the beginning of Yamatoman stage. There is a destructable block in the second or third (or was it the first?) screen in the lower right corner. I always just assumed it was slower because it requires you to change into the power adapter for a considerably long period of time AND fight a miniboss, even though the distance you have to travel is shorter. I also never tested the long route in Dr. X stage 1 (the space-themed stage). I'm in a hurry right now so I don't have time to think if there was something else, but I'll edit this later if something comes to mind. You can find the video of the first three stages here. Note that the strategy used in the Flameman stage is apparently SLOWER than the one used in the previous version, so scratch that.

I have always said that if anyone who wants to improve your current run, it should be you, and I still hold to that thought. I hope you will reconsider someday, as we both well know that once you are done with all the regular stages, you would easily complete the Wily stages. Please Kyrsimys, reconsider.

I'm totally on the same side with AngerFist. Kyrsimys, if it's anyhow possible, I hope you can continue improving you run.
Which run should I encode next? :)

I really think we need someone else working on this game. Because I have never had any serious competition (except for maybe Wodball and someone else I'm forgetting), it's really hard for me to question my choices and I might be blind to some (obvious) mistakes. I mean I'm sure I could squeeze some time off the run with the help of FCEU and some minor improvements, but I'm just as certain I will never come up with anything major that could make the run actually BETTER, not just more precise. I'm sure someone will challenge my run soon, just like Kopernical's runs have been.

Hehe, the problem with your run is, it looks very well executed and well done so it would be very hard for someone else to improve it.

Not the order of the bosses, no, but maybe things done in the levels, weapon changes etc.

If anyone cares, Im honoured to announce that I will be working with Adelikat for this run. We will begin working the 12th of December and our hope is that we'll actually finish the run within a few weeks because after the 12th, we both dont have so much to do + I feel Im quite experienced now doing Mega Man games so I can roughly finish a stage in 5-6-7 hours + Adelikat is a good and experienced TAS'er. I will be doing the stages and he will handle the boss fights. Note that Kyrsimys did a extremely well and excellent job on his run so dont expect any major improvement/s.

I'm really glad you're taking this on your plate. The game really does deserve an update to FCEU-time. I'll be happy to consult whenever you need me.

Okay I finally cleared the first stage, 26 frames faster than Kyrsimys latest WIP but oh boy how hard it was to get those 26 frames. It took my quite a while to fully figure out mega man's physics etc. I tested a lot of things, many different jumps due to how the stage is created and Im very satisfied with my WIP. Here is the file: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/343/Mega%20Man%206%20%28U%29%20WIP%20AngerFist%26Adelikat.fcm

Wow, very nice. The part with taking damage when you're on the part of the stage where there's oil on the ground was new, right? I don't remember it from Kyrsimys' run... Anyway, amazing job, keep it up!

Thanks. No, Kyrsimys did take damage during the oil part in his latest WIP but I managed to luck manipulate completely different during the last oil zone. It gave me the opportunity to jump down to kill the last enemy near the gate of FlameMan.
