Since the creation of this site, there have been many NES games TAS'd and many games for other consoles as well. At the moment, there is at least 5 movies for each category, with NES and SNES being the largest sections. The newer sections like GBA and hacked demos have at least 6. However, N64 only has 1. The N64 emulator was released (albeit with some bugs) around October of '05, and in half a year, only 1 movie has been completed so far (let alone being published) and that would be the 16 minute run of Super Mario 64 by Spezzafer. Now, this topic isn't to say N64 TAS'ers suck at it (They don't, me being one of them, I know it's hard) but to sort of ask why there isn't more "effort" in it. I'm sort of new to this community, so I guess I'm curious as to why N64 games take longer than NES or Genesis games. Anyhow, the point of this topic is to ask what game will be next to publish. Have fun voting! And do add any input you know about the progress of that game ^^) And I'll just edit this, since I'm not allowed to make a poll. because they arent as simple as 2d games is why they take so long, id think. also, take into account system requirements. i really dont understand the point of this thread since OoT isnt even submitted, and i dont think some of the other games are to my knowledge (Super Smash is, i know). as far as effort into these games, i personally didnt play a lot of N64 outside of mainstream games, so i dont care much for N64 games and TASing.

I don't think n64 tasing is really that hard, except for long games. You can get a 10 minute movie done in a month if you want.. The thing is not many games (if any at all) can be finished in 10 minutes. That's the deal with n64 games, most of them are long The shortest ones that come to mind are fighting (SSB) and racing (ridge racer 64? 1 race demonstration). Also what slashstardash said, the system requirements to run the emulator, also tasing with the mouse can be frustrating, so need an analog gamepad, etc.. But i'd definitely be happy to see more games being TASed for n64...

Atma thinks it's the poor emulation accuracy from using high-level emulation rather than low-level emulation. By the way, why don't you have either of the Castlevanias on there? They've already been submitted.

There are countless reasons, but I suspect one of them is because of the "analog" stick. Not everyone has a suitable thing to use with the emulator, and it makes it that much more difficult to maneuver precisely. Most games on the N64 use the analog stick. I think Starfox 64 will be the next movie to be published because it's the only one there I have played besides Ocarina of Time. I suspect the Oot movie will take forever to be completed because that game is very large and complex. Actually, I have NO idea how to answer this question.

Sorry, I was apparently misunderstood. I meant which game was to believed to be the next one COMPLETED. (I said published because I doubt a N64 TAS would be rejected since we only have one) Sorry for excluding Castlevania, the last post I saw on that thread was back in January, so I assumed all work on it stopped. Fixed.

Well N64 games are typically longer and more involved than games from the 8-bit era because games were starting to become more mainstream. I don't like 3-D games very much, because compared to 2-D, the intuitive nature of controlling the action is trash, and also because of the lack of view of all the action, no matter how you rig up the camera system. So, I myself am not very interested in N64 TASing, watching or making. (One exception is Blast Corps....someday) Another problem is that the resources for this emulator are much greater than most of the other emulators used here. Also, many games still aren't correctly emulated yet.

AFAIR not all of the N64 games were 3D in the terms of movement control. Smash Brothers, for example. Still, setting up the N64 controller is a bitch…

There are a lot of 2D games for the N64, you know. To claim that the N64 is held back by control problems is to claim that you had the same problem with 2D games for the system. I can understand when people are standoffish to run a game like Aero Fighters Assault, where it is so open ended that even the seemingly optimal route is probably the worst you could take. However, I can't understand how people can also be standoffish around games like Mischief Makers or Yoshi's Story or MK Mythologies.

I wasn't saying the N64 is held back only because of 3-D games. I said that it isn't helping, and then added why I personally don't like 3-D games.

I really would like to see the StarCraft 64 run finished. It surprises me how cool that game looks. I was expecting a really bad port. I can't wait to see the highest cursor speed used to its full potential.

Here are my wanna see priorities: 1 - blast corps 2 - OoT 3 - star fox 64 4 - ridge racer 64 sorry about megaman and bomberman, i don't know these games. also sorry for castlevania and SSB because i don't think they make impressive tas.

Don't most of those 2D games still use the analog stick anyway? I think so. Actually, off the top of my head I can only name one game that used the D-pad exclusively for control (Tetrisphere). Anyway, another reason might be the ROMs. They are not as widely available. And of course, the emulator is still young and it takes some time for people to get properly aquinted (sp?) to it.

Kirby 64 uses the cross pad, too. But I don't know if it's very interesting because Kirby is a little slow. The Bomberman games are probably fine for keyboard too though because he seem to be able to move in only 8 directions anyway.

Another point I forgot to mention is that yes, N64 has 2-D games. But if we're going to TAS 2-D games, why not pick much better 2-D games on emulators that are already familiar? That way of thinking is probably a common deterrent to starting an N64 TAS. Also, of the six games in this "poll", four are 3-D, and two are kind-of-3-D.

While Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Duke Nukem 64 are indeed 3-D, they don't take much time at all to complete. I've seen them all completed in under an hour. While there is heavy competition in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, Duke Nukem 3D is pretty much overlooked, but the game is wonderful for a TAS. That's why I was really pushy on trying to get that game done. My suggestion is to go after those three games, since they are faster games.

I feel the same for this one, though I don't think it'll be much sense in TASing SSB. This game is really good at realtime playing.

Actually, SSB already has a submission though there's no attempt to see if it's being published yet. =/ There's also a Castlevania run too, but again, not much voting is done. =/

Why not include something like paper mario if it can be done fast enough, battles are in 2d but the game itself holds a part 3d part 2d nature.
