Hit% = spell% (66) + caster's level - target's level. Roll under that on d%. Then, roll over the target's evade (in this case, 66%). So you need to be high level to hae a chance. So it wouldn't work. Oh well. EDIT: However you could do the same type of thing with the Old spell. This boss doesn't have Aging immunity. Old has a spell% of 90, so you would only need to have the caster be level 8 or above to have a chance to hit (a very, very small chance to hit - a third of a percent for every level above 7 - but with luck manipulation that equals a few frames' delay). Then it's just correctly timing a L5 Death and you're good.

I'll read carefully the big post when I have time /*-, but here's an answer: *L3 Flare -learned in Barrier Tower from a Red Dragon (a MIAB battle). someone must have a level divisible by 3 in order to learn it. you'll need to set up WALL on him to have it work properly, as it can only be reflected *i call this into question as its only needed on Mummies who can prolly be taken out faster. You should had used a Fenix Down instead... ;) Also, why is better to set the Battle Mode to Active & not leave it as Wait? If it's for having the enemies/bosses to attack faster, then you might need to heal because of that, though when a run gets made, you'll barely lose time while selecting an item, magic, etc... BTW, you should add the next mixes IMO: Dragon Power (Potion + Dragon Fang), +20 Lv Samson Power (Antidote+Holy Water), +10 Lv Explosive (Turtle Shell + Dark Matter), suicide attack altern method for Exdeath on world 2, at the Great Forest of Mua, since you'll most likely use Mix on the previous battle...

added those things in. now the only reason to fight a Red Dragon is to get 99 Dragon Fangs (which goes over the limit, but is faster than individually getting the correct amount). considering the second MIAB has a hair ornament, get that instead. the mixes you listed are useful. but i never had to use Dragon or Samson Power (we were at L13-15 if its for Halicarnaso). and Explosive... i had a Blue Mage Team w/ Mix on (well, i guess they could all be ninjas aside from Galuf). and im not sure about Battle Mode myself. if it needs to be altered then ill make note of it. i thought it was done so you didnt have to wait for someone to scroll through the menu for other team members to perform actions.

You should explain the infinite item glitch in the "Bugs/Tips for game use" part of the post. Or you could just put the Game FAQs link there (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/code/562810.html). Everybody doesn't know how the glich works. EDIT: If we decide Carbuncle is worth fighting for, there is another easy way to defeat him (which I found in Game FAQs). Cast Fire 3 with Mystic Knight and in the next round hit Carbuncle with it and he shall fall to the ground. EDIT2: I tested the Carbuncle strategy and it seems to work. Though there is one exception: it doesn't work if you are using Dancing dagger/knife.

ok, i linked the glitch. not all things stolen are 255, as the FAQ of it explains (it depends on what type of thing is stolen... and it shoulda been called INFINITE ITEM, but im nit-picky). and i put up your carbuncle strat instead. BTW, did anyone know about the significance of where you fight ExDeathSoul and its relation back to the first world? never even thought about it.

I though that it was just because of the sealed weapons, but now that I saw the maps I realized the truth... Now that you finished the walkthru, hope Vidar takes the game & make the movie :D (He said he would give up Star Fox 64 if he couldn't make 328 points or something like that on Cornelia...)

ok, this just came up at GameFAQs. since some monsters are always initiate Reflect, how can they also be L5 Doomed?

I was reading the walkthrough you made /*-, & I noticed that you mention to use Scrolls over Rods, because of the speed of ninjas. Also, IIRC, you mention it would be a good idea to learn some abilities for the Blue Mage. Well, instead of using ninjas, wouldn't be better to be mages & get some ABPs in the process?

you dont actually have to learn BLUE, because you'll be Blue Mages most of the game (Twin Tania is the only one which immediately comes to mind). also, you'll have somewhat low levels and low HP... so speed would be a key to winning. that or manipulating a Pre-Empt each battle with the guns. of course, as always, im open to other suggestions there.

Rods can only be broken by Jobs that equip them

And blue mages can equip them, that's why I asked... Anyway, thanks for the answer /*-

EDIT: looks like i was wrong about the wall ring, but you're afforded a few options before its absolutely necessary (Catastroph) -rare steal from carbuncle -steal from Fury (he's right there in Dimension Tower, isnt he?) -one of Mellusion's form has it as a rare steal (most likely not) -Wall Mage (i forget if he's an encounter we'll make or not though) -or, you could just FLOAT before the battle and give Mix to a Ninja (w/ running shoes) and have him use Dragon Armor to give the Reflect status. i think that should be possible unless Catastroph always starts the battle off by attacking first. -oh, and float is availible in Mirage, so dont get it in world 2. ill note these in the Walkthru... eventually. ok, i kept a notebook during all of this. Blue Mages were used EXCEPT for the following: -item Dupe trick -Sandworm battle (Ninjas instead) -Cannons/Sol Cannon (Ninjas again) -Titan (Mediators w/Dragoon; should have been Samurai w/Dragoon) -Byurbolos (Ninjas) -upgrading in Val Castle (though i left Reina a Blue Mage to L5 Death and she ended up learning Blue and got halfway through to whatever the last filler ability of a Blue Mage is) -Dragon Fang/Dark Matter; in either case, get the items against Red Dragon and Bone Dragon -Carbuncle (i had Black Mages, but should've had Mystic Knights as Maza noted; and thats only if he's still needed) -Twin Tania (Black Mages for BREAK) my other N-Zone strats wont matter because those were just done to finish up and werent with good strats (as should be noted within the last 2 pages). so Blue Mages were used a LOT. keep in mind, there was always a thief somewhere in the mix outside of Boss Battles to Dash/Flee.

Something I just discovered that you may want to test: The RicaldMages in Walse Tower drop Rods (I got a pair of Fire Rods off an encounter, I haven't checked to see if they drop other rods as well), and you can use a pair of them to kill Galura much quicker than whittling it down with Goblin Punches. Not sure if finding a way to kill a group of RicaldMages (or a RicaldMage/IceSoldier x2 group) and manipulate Rod drops is faster overall than the normal way of killing Galura, but it's worth a try at least..

that was on aresake's walkthru at SDA. i thought about it, but i cant even get a random encounter in there. and if i do, its never with those damn mages anyhow. it would be worth noting though.

Have we yet decided what to do with the save points? Since the first time you step on one, there will be a introduction message on save points. After that you can walk through them like they even weren't there. Or should we always go around them? Though one, but I think we should go through 'em. There may even be time when a tent or cottage needs to be used. And about the Chicken Knife: I don't think it should be gotten. That's because we won't be doing much melee damages (because of the low level). Yes, it could help in fleeing but that's why we got Flee and Smoke. So I'm voting 'no' for Chicken Knife. About the Carbuncle: I'm taking a wild guess here but i think it won't be needed. Firstf of all, there won't be much of using summoner. Maybe Golem or Odin, if we use time getting them. Second: the enemies/bosses will be killed in few actions, usually by changing levels + Lv5 Doom (or atleast that's what I'm hoping for).

Golem i can see using; not Odin. the only reason for him was TwinTania, who easily fell to Break and the Black Mages (not to beconfused with Sly and the Family Stone). Golem would be useful for the wait time to use a Blue Mage Spell (Apprehender, Halicarnaso) Chicken Knife is a HELL NO. its useless. Save points are debatable. if Apocalypse is to be beaten, then i can see using at least one. but theres still some delay walking through a few of the Save Points (little, but still noticible in Real Time). you always seem to have another option aside from a Save Point though... other ways of healing. also, the Sol Cannon is better dealt with via Blue Mages w/Thunder Rods (took 8 turns; 9 if you count L5 Death, which i dont even think you need considering Thunder Damage). Ninjas took 13 turns (4 ROUNDS!). ill add that in here in a bit.

ok, i was thinking about those abilities i stop to learn in world 2 at Val basement. what if everyone just picked one and learned it? someone will have to be a blue mage and all, but it cuts down on time not to have ALL master it. so who should master what? 45 ABP - Mix 25 ABP - Hide 60 ABP - Control that could range anywhere from 8-16 battles depending, but is much better than 17-32 that would need be for each. here are the stats from the JOB FAQ over at GameFAQs:
PRE-tree segments

Name Vigor Speed Stamina Mag.Pwr
----------------------------------------------------
Bartz 28 25 27 25
Reina 25 26 25 28
Galuf 27 24 28 24
Faris 27 27 26 26

points of concern: -tree segments (4 doom potions and only 1 mixer? ouch...) -gargoyles (if not killed closely together, one revives the other) im just thinking out loud mostly.

Couldn't you just change everyone's jobs to Chemist for that battle? Or do you need some other jobs as well?

Chemists don't start with !Mix, they need 45 ABP to get it.

I was trying the walkthru you posted /*- , when I finished the 1st world I ended up with 2 hrs 18 min, I lost some time encountering some specific enemies, restoring at the Inn rather than using a tent or Elixirs+Fenix Downs (which I think it's faster), buying more rods & throwable items after I visited the town & grabbing some treasures that weren't neccesary at all... So, sub 2 hrs shouldn't be hard to reach... Currently, I just finished learning the neccesary jobs at almost 3 hrs (I'm at Bal castle, before fighting the Abductor). I'm sure that World 2 & 3 will take together about the same as World 1... So, I don't think I can get sub 4 hrs... (though this is just a test :P) I was reading the SDA link, and it mentions that someone beat the game in like 3 hrs 15 min, how on earth is that possible??? All I can think is that I lost some time on the cinemas (I was skipping frames & using turbo). Also, since it was played on the Play Station, running is a lot faster, though I remember that you get to fight more often (which might not be that bad after all...) BTW, how many times do you need to use Control? I was thinking that you could skip it & instead sing to either charm or stop the enemies... (Or was it the only was to be able to learn Lv 2 Old?) At last, you have a slightly error on the walkthru:
- now ChimeraBrain; Level 5 Death and then Physical attack (it takes manipulation for him NOT to Aqua Rake you immediately)
You use Death Claw rather than Lv 5 Doom :P Oh, could you add how many rods & throwable skills you'll use in the 1st world? As I mentioned early, I lost some time because I though I wouldn't need "to many"... Edit: For those who haven't seen the Galuf clonning, here's a snap:

i was wondering myself about how he got such a low time. id think if anything PSX would have slower loading times (i know Chronicles suffered from this problem w/ FF4). i know running is like 8x w/ thief while its only 4x or so in SFC. and i think just pressing the run button adds speed as well (i could be wrong, but im too lazy to play the game and check my references). maybe... MAYBE thats it... but it just doesnt sound right. i thought 3:15 was at his last save point. i thought the strategies i went through and tested would have been better, but maybe they're not. control is used for Magic Dragon only as far as i can remember... i havent played in a while though. and L2 Old is very needed in the run. maybe you could avoid the Val Basement scenario... im really not sure anymore. oops on the L5 Death reference... hahaha. also, i dont know how many rods would be used and such. Archeoavis changes elements so it throws calculations off a bit. you can mentally add up that number though by reading through... i think i make note of it. if someone would pick up where i left off and go through and refine the walkthru (ive got too much going on currently), it might help. i appreciate your working on this goroh, just as a sort of back up testing.
