Okey Saturn, here we go :) My technique playing Ken: It's really really important to give the first hit. By doing the slowest form of habuken, forces your enemy to do a flying kick or to jump at you, give your enemy then a hit by the lowest form av hajuken (I know I've spelled it wrong but u know what I mean) because the point is to land as fast as possible so you may attack by jumping at your enemy fast as possible. If your enemy decides to block or take a hit from habuken, go forward a bit while doing another habuken, this time, depending on where your enemy is, you have to decide which form av habuken you have to do, either a slow, normal or a fast one in order to get close as possible for preparing for the flying kick. So your first task is to do whatever it takes to knock/making your enemy to fall down as fast as possible (because if he is not knocked as fast as possible then time will be lost). When he is down, you must immediately jump towards him with a flying kick. If your enemy is blocking himself from your flying kick you immediately, fast as possible throw him. It is also VERY important to corner your enemy by gradually taking advantage from throwing and obviously flying near to your enemy. Also, when your opponent gets dizzy, do a beautiful full hajuken (Ken's famous flame hajuken) and directly after that, do my technique again. If you play the computer on the hardest level, you know that the computer rises much faster than normal so therefore it is very important, right after you have throwed your enemy to jump immediately to do another of flying kick. Do not try to throw light punches at your enemy (my theory) because that will only waste time because (especially in the hardest level) your enemy will do something to counter-attack or simply block. You might think well if he blocks at the hardest level, why can't I just throw him? Because on the hardest level, throwing some light punches and then try to throw your opponent is almost unlogical since your opponet moves faster. I strongly feel my technique is a bit faster than agopo (absolutely nothing personal) :) So, I hope I gave you a good advice, Saturn. May the force be with you.

Thank you ANGERFIST, I understand what you mean, but there is still a possibility for the opponent to counter you: After the knockdown, the jumping on the opponent with a flying kick will not work at least against a expert, because if doing correctly you can reverse the flying kick with a small shoryuken (dragon punch) if you excute the move in the correct time. This is the big advantage of Ken and Ryu since their shoryuken cannot be breaked no matter what kind of hit you use against it. But against the most other fighters this technique should work well. What agopo means is to trick the opponent. It's logical that the opponent will block the light jabs but since you can do many of them in a row you can decide after how many jabs you want to throw so the opponent won't know the time when to releasing the block to counter the throw.

If I remember, there was a way to even do my tech against Ken or Ryu. I think it was with the flying kick. You'd have to time your jump exactly and your opponent had to be in a certain distance from you. Also how can Ken or Ryu do the shoryuken when he has no other choice to either to block or to take the hit from the flying kick? This is what I meant by jumping immediately afterwards from your previous flying kick and throw, he wont have a chance to do the shoryuken. Thats the whole point of my technique :) You can also (instad of just doing a flying kick and afterwards throwing your opponent) do a flying kick and do a ground round-kick to flip him or or making him fall once again. About agopo's trick. Im doubtful to his trick if you are playing on the hardest level, due to how fast your opponent moves. It is absolutely logical that the opponent will block the light jabs, however your opponent on the hardest level is a bit smarter on the hardest level, although I cannot prove it so I'll leave agopo's technique :)

sorry, about agopos technique I forgot to say that I mean against a human player. Of course it will not work against a 8 star CPU perfectly but a human don't have that fast reactions to see the throw-attack after the jabs fast enough. And yes, at least in "Super Street Fighter 2" it is really possible to reverse the flying kick even if you are lying on the ground. You just have to make the shoryuken-move in the right time during the standing up so that the flying kick will be breaked by the dragon punch (if you are lying you can't be attacked anyway until you stand up again). I just watched the repeating of the final in the Chamions League and I agree, it was one of the best soccer games ever and I am sad too that Milan couldn't win even after a 3-0 leading, really crazy game. It was a awesome luck for Liverpool, I can't find another defination for their win.

ANGERFIST: You may be correct about my technique not working well against a CPU enemy. But like Saturn has said: It is supposed to work against humans. I hardly ever played the computer. Usually we'd go against each other in human vs human matches. There the technique works sufficiently if you throw in a hadoken from time to time. Also I sometimes jump straight up and do a hard-kick shortly before landing, in order to surprise my enemy and do a little change from the constant jabbing-throwing thing. I like your idea though of adjusting the hadoken speeds and shoryuken heights to your enemy's position. We really should battle this out sometime on zbattle to see who is the true master ;) My bets for now go to Saturn though, I checked out his combo-site and he seems to live beat 'em ups..

combo-site? And no, I'm not really that perfect in a live-battle. I have good knowledge of this game but my reactions are not always the best.

Oh my.. how embarrasing. I've mistakenly thought that you were the creator and maintainer of Shakespeare's site. Guess it just adds up to my winning-chances then..

looks like a dead topic here, but I will ask a question anyway how about making a run using Vega? he can jump of the walls like crazy (noticed it in saturns zangief run). what is the possible entertainment value of a Vega run? I can't do this run myself, 'cause I'm not nearly good enough in this game to do a good run.

I don't think a Vega Run would be that entertaining. He has cool and fast moves along with the walljump, but his combo-possibilities are very limited so IMO the fights would get repetitive after a while.

At this place I want to ask, what is entertainment for viewers?

For me the most important thing in entertainment (at least in a fighting game) is variation. If you repeat a combo more times during a run (which you are forced with Vega because he don't have a big repertoire) it's not that interesting. Also each of the 24 fights should be as much unique as possible in the progress etc. As a fighting-games expert you should know it yourself best, Shakespeare.

Probably by using some cheat codes, not sure though. Only thing I can say for sure is the vid is not from the SNES version in which this definitely is not possible on legal way.

Yes, by a cheat code. The japanese description says something like "By using a cheat I have turned Zangief into the strongest!"

My cousin visited me recently and we decided to play some VS-matches on Snes9x the first time (instead of console). In case someone want to see some nice realtime tricks, techs and how we both suck in this game (joke) here are a couple of them played in the Group Battle Mode: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1621/SSF2_-_GroupBattle1_Cousin_VS_Saturn.smv I'm the 2nd player.

Wah, your Tiger Fire spamming was even worse than the computer does it...;) I just watched the first 20 minutes, but those were quite entertaining.

Guess I should throw in another 2-Player Demo of me against my cousin again for those who are interested in some SSF2 movies. Recoded just a couple of hours ago. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1951/SSF2_-_GroupBattle2_Cousin_VS_Saturn.smv I'm 2nd player as usual because my cousin doesn't like to play from the right side from which the special moves are harder to execute for him. It's another Group-Battle match which shows some more nice combos and realtime fight-strategies. We didn't use the "8 same Fighters cheat" so this time there are more different characters in use, not just Ryu's and Ken's. :-)

I'll bump this rather old thread instead of creating a new one, since we already have a plethora of SF2 threads. So, I've been trying my hand at this. This is my progress: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/230447222/SSF2_neophos.smv Is it worth trying to obsolete the current movies, seeing as it's more or less strictly entertainment-based?

Looks pretty good so far. The only mistake you did is to not use the hardest difficulty by setting the CPU fighters on 8 Stars instead of the standard 4. That way you can't show off as many combos as I did, because you finish your opponents too quickly due to the much higher damage you deal to them. This will make a faster movie overall, but the entertainment value (which is the most important criteria in fighting games) will suffer from this. Also, since you use Guile, try to abuse his very quick cooldown after the shots as much as possible for the combos. He can do some really crazy ones because of that. :-)

Time to bump once again. I restarted the run, and and making some (very) slow progress. Thanks, Saturn, for reminding me to play on the hardest level. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1992829800/SSF2newrun.smv I've currently beaten T. Hawk and Ryu, with Blanka being the next opponent. After Blanka, I'm planning on jumping in with Fei Long as player 2, beat Guile with him, do a few matches, and, well, no idea after that. It'll most likely be a while to then, though - I'm awfully slow. EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to mention: There's several non-combo hits just to set up for bigger combos in the corner. I hope it's not too distracting/boring when not every hit turns into a major combo.

Yeah, but instead of fighting CPU players in the hardest dificulty (what means nothing in a TAS... it only makes the run slower, due to the higher defence), I'd sug gest a series of 2-Player matches in Arcade Mode, alternating until only Vega/Master Bison is left for the final battle. You won't get the super dumb special ending, but who cares?

Technically, being at higher difficulty also makes them harder to dizzy, which means you can continue your combos longer. But the idea is good. I'll try it out, see how it looks.

Good 2-Player matches are much harder to create than the ones against CPU fighters. I only got 4 fights done in my Tournament demonstration, and was sick of it after that. If you have more patience in this difficult task, go for it. Of course you guys can continue that Tournament demo as well, so that we might get a complete team TAS of it, eventually. You decide the winner in any fight you are willing to contribute. As for the latest Guile run, a very nice one, Neophos. Seems like you found a nice trick by abusing the left+right option in a way that allows Guile to charge his Sonic Booms while still walking towards the opponent if facing left. This should allow for truly infinite combos, something I didn't thought would ever be possible in SSF2. All in all the run looks great so far, so good luck on further progress if you plan to finish it.
