That's exactly what I do, though I use OpenOffice and I don't bother with the hours-minutes-seconds thing, I deal in frames only. It's pretty simple to do this and it makes comparing movies so much easier and more fun.

Blublu: depends on what emulator you use. Gens outputs in M:S:F, so some kind of conversion to raw frames is necessary before you compare two times.
