Is it just me, or this hack is really something when it comes to searching for completion-critical items? –_– I'm afraid even to think about "SM Searching For Items" hack…

Ok, I've completed Metroid Legacy, my overall opinion of the game has improved to 'maybe acceptable for TASing if enough people back it'. It's a pity Mother Brain couldn't be made harder, though, but I guess not much can be done with an event as scripted as that. Though Ridley nearly did me in, I was taking my time avoiding him when I realized 'oh snap the lava is rising!' and then went a bit ballistic. :)

Would someone who has successfully patched Metroid Legacy mind sharing the CRC32 values of their ROM before and after it was patched? Seeing other people talk about it in this thread makes me want to play it even more, heh.

The CRC of the rom I used was 'D63ED5F8' and the CRC of the resulting patched rom was 'AB54326B'

Thanks spoony. Something must be going wrong with the patching process, because my "before" CRC matches but the "after" one does not.

that's interesting. Now I've got two "Super Metroid [!] (JU)" here, both with the same CRC of D63ED5F8. One patches to a good legacy rom, one doesn't. it seems like you have to.. ehm.. dump a different version of your cartridge for the patch to work.

Is it that header problem still?
Sounds like it is. I can't remember what the fix was, though, besides finding a ROM that already has the header fixed.

Almost no progress the last week because I was very busy at work and away in the weekend. Just got the Energy Tank and the Super Missile and am right before the Spikes where I have to find the best damage moves in the fastest possible time. When I find some free-time I will record it further. Can't promise too much currently.

JXQ, I was wondering how you are doing with your 100% run, any progress, any difficulties etc.

Progress: I've got the entire route planned out, and I'm confident that weapon management won't be a problem, even though I don't plan on refilling weapons at my ship. I'm taking a slight detour from Michael Flatley's route - after getting the Wave Beam, I'm going to head down to fight Crocomire and get the items in his area, and get the missle behind the green gate on the way back. This way I can get the Spring Ball without having to stop and get the Ice Beam early. As far as actual game progress, I just took the elevator back to Crateria after that first missle pack, and I'm 89 frames ahead of Michael Flatley's WIP. Difficulties: MANY. This game is nuts for TASing. Things are slow because I've been spending a lot of time redoing early parts, trying to learn the ins and outs of the game. But progress has also been slowed because I've been working on Smash TV as well. Since I'm nearing completion of that run, I will probably focus on it a bit more to finish it up before fully concentrating on this run again. Thanks for the interest!

When you go to get the Spring Ball, is there any way to glitch through the sand-like stuff that creature has to destroy for you? That way you don't have to stand there and wait for it to be destroyed because that can be annoying. On the console that's the only thing you can do, although you CAN kill the creature but that just leaves you stranded.

I'm pretty sure that there is no way to pass this massive quicksand passage without waiting for the creature to destroy it for you. This are solid blocks that you can't destroy yourself in any case. The only thing that might work is to use the X-Ray scope climb and the out of area tricks to somehow get through this room however I'm not sure if it still would be faster than the legal way. Kejardon is one of the experts in this stuff so maybe ask him for some hints if JXQ is at this point.

Well I'm not getting the X-ray scope until after I have the Space Jump, so it would have to also make up for lost time getting on the way to Maridia with the Grapple Beam and/or Speed Booster with knockback from the spikes.

89 frames already? Awesome! :D But how did you manage to improve his score that far? It sounds near impossible… :?

Super Metriod is hell to optimize. Remember when we all thought Teri's 46 second escape was as good as it got?

All Metroid games are hell to optimize. I've spent almost 1000 rerecords in just 1 room in Metroid.

That's not that bad actually. The original Metroid didn't have much in the way of acceleration. And jumping doesn't reset speed (though the act of jumping is incredibly slow). And sometimes rooms require 1000 rerecords to do right, for instance, in DK I wasted 1000 rerecords trying something that doesn't work in 3-6, and I spent another 1000 or so on 3-3 performing just one trick as quickly as possible. And I used about 500 doing that one trick in 3-1. Even though DK is a game that is normally incredibly easy to optimize.

No matter how much this game is optimized, it seems there is always another way to save frames somewhere. It's just that complex.

Well, I just couldn't remember that cause Teri had his run published waaay before I joined these forums. ;)

I know that, but… whole 1.5 seconds! :0 This is grand. I think this would be one of my favourite 100% TAS together with spezzafer's Yoshi's Island 100%… when (if?) they will be ready. BTW, do you plan on releasing a WIP anytime soon? It would be extremely appreciated. :) On a related note, both to Saturn and JXQ: I request a little progress report. :> As I'm extremely interested in both runs, and, as [it seems that] they are nothing near completion for now, I just want to know everything's going all right (and, well, just going). Besides, it's already three weeks that passed since Saturn's last answer on RBO run, and I'm desperate to know if there is something new to know about.
