The fact that their later work is crap doesn't change the fact that Dark Requiems.... And Unsilent Massacre is an awesome album. I don't like Kings of Chaos (or whatever the name was) either.

JXQ, I think I feel a little bit left out like you when admitting that I like rap music, R n' B, Funk and such.. but since it's mostly open-minded people here we shouldn't be afraid. ;)

- 50 Cent (his lyrics may be stereotypical trash, but his 'flow' is just awesome)
- Dr Dre
- Missy Elliot
- Boogie Down Productions (old skool)
Although I also like alternative rock (Foo Fighters, Placebo, The White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age among others), electronical music (Thomas P. Heckmann, Thomas Schumacher, Crystal Method, Ken Ishii and more) and even 80s music. :)
I guess I can understand how a lot of folks here don't like people who have their fake rap "I'm too cool to be true"-attitude always on them. It's immature to behave like a gangster(wannabe) and embarassing.. but don't make some bad listeners put down the good music which lies in front!

EuroDance!!!!!! My favorite band of this would be CASCADA!!! I also like some Initial D songs, Chipz. Joee. I like Linkin Park, songs like In the end, Breaking the Habit. Also, any good Megaman Techno songs are nice. Benny Benassi - Turn me up, thats good. Shinedown - 45, also good.
I'm listening to all (well not all, I hardly like any black, death and grind) kind of metal genres for the most part, but open for very much.
For metal: I only like the music, I can't stand the culture around it.

My prediction for the future: I'll be listening to less metal, but much more jazz and classical.
I'm into a decent variety of "loud rock" music in general, such as punk, metal, and hardcore (some poppy versions of each too). Some examples: Propagandhi, Anti-Flag, Green Day, Deftones, Lamb of God, Glassjaw, Hopesfall, Horse The Band, Mindless Self Indulgence, Meshuggah, Hatebreed, Unearth, Sikth, Norma Jean, Nothingface, Pantera, Story of The Year.
I've only heard the 20 minutes long "I" so far, but it's fuckin' awesome. I'll be sure to check out more of their stuff soon.
Also, I really like piano rock, like Tori Amos, Elton John, The Dresden Dolls.
I think the problem most people (myself included) have with rap is not the music (let's come back to that) as much as the people who like the music. The whole subculture around rap is just completely unappealing to me, and always has been.
I feel the effects of this too, but in a different way. When some people discover that I like rap or rap myself (usually people a generation above me), I can tell that I'm basically looked down on for it, because that entire subculture is portrayed so heavily in the music that people who are unfamiliar with it equate liking the music with liking that same subculture. Those who are less familiar with rap probably hear more about the subject matter they find offensive than anything else, and that can give them a skewed view of the genre (and thus, the people who like it). Those who are more knowledgable in it know that you can find more than that, depending on what you are listening for or who you are listening to. This is probably somewhat observable in (some of) the rap I make. I don't rap about things that aren't familiar to me, I just prefer to talk about the way I feel and my life.
Of course, those type of people who adjust their personal opinion of others simply because of the type of music someone else enjoys are the kind of people who's opinion of me I could give a shit less about, so it's not too big of a deal.

I personally don't feel 50 because I don't like his "singing" voice (and it sounds like he's rapping with a mouth full of crackers), but In Da Club's beat was a banger - no surprise with Dre behind the boards. Wow, I like almost nothing that's been posted here. :P Lately I've been listening to a lot of older rock (i.e. late 1970s - 1980s) such as Guns 'N Roses, Bon Jovi, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even as far back as Aerosmith. I also like a lot of newer bands like Offspring, Metallica (that's about as heavy as I get), Foo Fighters, and Nickelback.

Personally, I enjoy music from most genres except death metal and speed metal and country. Probably the reason for that is I fixate on virtuosity and am impressed by little else, and am turned off by imperfect technical execution of both playing and singing in music. I suppose the reason why people listen to and enjoy music that I consider to be crap is because it speaks to them on some visceral level. Many of you may think I'm ridiculous for valuing technical expertise first and foremost, but for the most part that's what speaks to me, even more than compelling melodies or interesting lyrics.
I've often wondered what it is about highly technical and complicated pieces I enjoy, such as Aphex Twin and Dillinger Escape Plan, and I never could put my finger on the answer. I've hypothesized it's something about how the chaotic music has an underlying somewhat hidden structure, kind of like the life I am familiar with.

it has nothing to do with nationalities.
a lot of the visitors of those forums are geeks, and goths are common among geeks, that's not new. therefore, metal music is popular here, and since it's become the new subject of this topic, its fans reply more often.
(note : I'm not judging anything, I appreciate metal too, at a very small dose)
as for my personal taste... pretty eclectic, as long as it's not known on TV. no pop hence, etc.

I can somewhat relate to this feeling myself, although I would rate technical execution as important as the feeling of the music instead of more important than. (This is what has driven me to become proficient with my own mixing / mastering) But my reason for posting is that I wonder if this feeling is somewhat common from users on this website, since the movies we make and watch are generally aiming for technical perfection as the primary goal.

Well I think "technical perfection" is just a goal for ensuring that the whole feeling of the music gets through.

Yeah good old Aphex is one of a kind, hehe. BTW he is also one of those responsible for the whole IDM concept. Too bad he stopped evolving some five years ago… Everything he does now is pretty weak compared to his 90's output.
BTW, if you want some more high quality "strange shit" music, check out mid to late 90's Autechre albums or Coil's Musick to Play in the Dark volumes 1 & 2 (or basically every band from my IDM/Industrial list, though not all of them are appealing to the vast majority of the listeners; it's just me who likes experimental music). Kinda weird yet very atmospheric stuff.

I think it's because some North Europe countries (e.g. Finland) spawn an immense amount of Metal artists which output is of considerably decent quality (I think it's the most perspective genre of music for that geographical region).

Don't forget that especially black metal and the stuff that has spawned from it has long roots in Scandinavia (Norway). By some people's definitions, it's the only place it was ever created in (and the assumption these people make, of course, is that genuine black metal is long dead).
